Just finished my first playthrough, and have some questions.
When I first started, I told myself if there was anything I felt deserved to die, I wouldn't spare it. I was pretty disappointed to find nothing in the game did anything worthy of death, so everyone was spared, until of course the final fight with Flowey. Fuck him. Killed him dead... How bad did I goof by doing that? I don't want to read wiki too much, to keep from spoiling my next ending, but will I have to play again and spare him before I can get a good ending?
Also, during the final fight, the attacks and assistance from the six souls were the same as the item tiers throughout the game, the first being toy knife and bandage, second was the glove, third ballerina shoes and so on... Is this a coincidence? Or were those items left by the six humans who were killed by Asgore?
Lastly, there's a hidden room before Snowdin with a door bearing the royal symbol. I kept hoping it was a secret backdoor back into the Ruins, a way to visit Toriel again... I spent a couple minutes trying diferent combinations with the mushrooms but finally gave up. Is it something I'll need in another ending? Or is it a red herring?

What sort of LP videos do you like for Undertale, /utg/? Assuming you watch them at all. I think my favorite are the ones where people are obviously really immersed and invested, and actually seem like they're having a great time. Nothing's more boring than the ones who don't show much in response to the game, there are silent playthroughs for that.
I can't find it now, but there was one guy who did a Geno run because of his friend and fans pushing him, and he was really, really emotional about the whole thing. Tearfully apologized to Toriel, stalled for a good five minutes or so on Papyrus, swearing and apologizing, did the same with MK, was genuinely happy when Undyne came to kick his ass (and when he'd got her HP low, he stalled again and clearly didn't want to land the hit, saying he wished she'd been able to stop him) , got really upset when NEO didn't put up a fight, and although he was somewhat spoiled about Sans being the end-boss, his reactions to being chewed out by him were pretty great.
Sadly, he was too dedicated to his geno run to accept Sans sparing him, I'd have loved to see that. But when he finally beat him, he was sobbing when he read Sans' last words.
It's really great to me to see how the game can move people, even if they're not doing the right thing. Like all those pacifist players who die to Asgore like ten times just by trying to survive rather than fight.

I know where I can improve though. I make so many early mistakes and waste healing for stupid things. One area of note is the 3rd attack Sans uses. It always chips away my entire health bar. Literally 90 to 1 sometimes. If I can get through that without getting hit I can save my Pie for his special attack.

Got Undertale this weekend after doing nothing but talking about how shit it was and how pretentious and tumblrina and "LOL LE INDIE SHIT" it was.
I'm quite happy with the game. I have a few complaints, like how at the end of the ruins you are forced into a fight vs Toriel. I had been playing at that point as a pacifist already, simply because thats how I wanted to play. The advertisements and talk about the game was real big on "EVERYTHING MATTERS", and I liked Toriel and didn't want to enter a fight with her.
So I left the fight and just walked around the ruins for an hour checking for any square I didnt hit Z on. Kind of a shitty mechanic to force someone into a fight despite warning them against fighting. As an experienced player now though, it makes sense, but for a new player it can be a bit jarring and against the previous design we learned.
Apparently I failed to get a Pacifist ending my first playthrough, which took about 5 hours, because I killed a few froggits at the ruins when I got mad I had to fight Toriel. Flowey told me to try again without harming anyone, so I did, and got through to the True Pacifist ending.
I have to say that ending was SO much more satisfying. I wasn't expecting to fight Asriel and his fight was really cool and a lot of fun. I'm not going to be one of those people that says "omg best game i cry so hard" but I'll admit, during the Asriel fight when I started saving everyone, I got some frission tingles and some tears formed.
Overall I'm quite happy I bought the game and decided against my judgement to try it. I wanted to do a third playthrough to do a Genocide run just for completionists sake, but after the end of my Pacifist (and even opening it up and getting the message from Asriel, I don't think I want to. I'll probably just let it sit as is in my library, content.

Have you ever read Flowers For Algernon?
Someone with a low IQ gets an operation that makes him supremely intelligent. He grows antisocial and loses the few friends he had before researching intensively to find that his intelligence growth is temporary. The last few chapters of the book show him regressing back to the dumb state from whence he came. At the very end of the book, though, it's clear that he's certainly a lot wiser than he was before his whole experience; even when he can't spell properly or read well, he doesn't lose the awareness of the world around him that he didn't have before the operation.
That, I think, is the situation that Flowey is in at the end of True Pacifist. Even though he ultimately regresses, he doesn't lose everything that he used to have. Some vestigial part of his mind can at least comprehend human compassion and maybe even feel some emotions. Ironically, this is actually a pretty hellish fate for him because now he's going to be alone and grow gradually more and more insane as he's trapped inside a hole that no one wants to visit. But I think that Frisk is compassionate enough to visit the mountain and have tea with him now and then. Even when he still has sociopathic bouts and tries to kill them.

why? because its not straight forward? the puzzle is designed by undyne, who is incredibly sappy and sentimental inside. you aren't supposed to game logic anything, you're supposed to look at the gloomy statue, feel sorry for it being rained on, and try to fix it with an umbrella. if you don't have that kind of mentality, you'll miss the hint. that's all there is to it.

I liked Jack's playthrough, he was REALLY into the game, even if some things were annoying his enthusiasm was great.
GaLm's playthrough was good too, he played genocide and then played true pacifist again and talked about his thoughts for a long time and was SUPER into the game, and at the end of his 2nd pacifist ending he talked to Asriel. It was really nice and answered a lot of questions he had.
Also you should play genocide, not talking like a genofag but I put off playing it and didn't watch it,I wanted to play it for myself. It was easy enough to avoid sans' fight and major spoilers (like his dialogue) and when I went into the fight I was completely blind. That was an incredible feeling.
Now that I've done genocide I can read and talk about sans and flowey a lot more and watch a lot of stuff I could not before, it's a lot better than just avoiding a lot of interesting content.

no one said chara was pure and innocent, just that their plan wasn't to murder everyone forever, its clear from the second play through of the genocide from her dialog that your actions helped them to decide what their purpose was. This doesn't make chara good before that, but it does mean the players actions definately influence chara's personality at the end of undertale.

Definitely do genocide, but wait about a month maybe more, it'll ruin your pacifist experience if done too soon. But the eerie music, the 2 amazing boss fights, and learning floweys story is so rewarding imo.
