best cockpit and closest approximation to an advanced TIE fighter when?
>>
>>127055404
>Implying a TIE fighter cockpit is a high visibility glass ball

Can't see left or right pretty much at all due to the 'solar arrays' either side, and you're looking through what is basically a ship porthole in the first place.
>>
>>127055810
>solar arrays

>>
>>127055082

I really don't think the Saber will have many if any drawbacks to the gladius

People act like it being stealth will hinder its performance, but I don't think that will be the case

I could see the gladius being slightly more maneuverable, but will probably be slower, it just doesn't make much sense for a cutting edge fighter to not perform as well as a dated fighter

And this isn't an F-35 to F-16 comparison, it's more like an F-22 to F-15 comparison
>>
>>127055810
it is a ball though. its not as if any ship will have a replica TIE cockpit in any case.
>>
>>127055867
Whichever. Wouldn't be surprised, I'm not that knowledgeable on it. Point is they're really in the way, is all.

>>127055871
The parts will be lower-sig, so naturally low(er) performance, though we can hardly say HOW much lower. Its manouverability design 'goal' was to out-turn a heavy fighter, which doesn't seem that great.

People seem to be thinking its just a straight-up better Gladius, but that isn't going to be the case. CIG doesn't want to due pure upgrades.

It doesn't, but firstly the Ghost is still really high signature. Its a lower-sig Hornet rather than a real stealth craft, in my opinion. Secondly, its early days. There aren't really sets of components like thrusters even in the game yet. There might be eventually.
>>
>>127056229
>>127056389

>The parts will be lower-sig, so naturally low(er) performance

Not really the case in the Sabre's design.
It basically trades-off Hornet's armor capabilities & higher firepower for that huge stealth-suite that's plugged into it's rear fuselage.

supposedly it's supposed to be naturally stealthier than a Ghost, which probably means you'll need to be much closer to show up on radar + its signature may falloff much quicker amongst debris.
>>

>>
>all this Sabre v Gladius speculah
>nobody ever read the Q&A
>How well will the Sabre handle in comparison to the Gladius?

The Sabre is going to handle very similarly to the Gladius, if you look closely the maneuvering thruster type and placement is very similar to the Gladius. If you enjoy flying the Gladius the Sabre should behave broadly the same but with a little extra weight to it.

>Can you elaborate on why someone would pick the Sabre as opposed to the Hornet, and vice-versa? How does this relate to the Hornet Ghost specifically?

Compared to the Hornet Ghost the Sabre is built from the ground up to be a dedicated “stealth” ship whereas the Hornet Ghost is retrofitted to become stealthy, therefore whilst the Ghost is still very stealthy compared to other ships it wont be quite as impervious to radar as the Sabre. What little it lacks in stealth capabilities compared to the Sabre though is made up for in its additional armour and weaponry however
>>
>>127056661
>Not really the case in the Sabre's design.
But it is.

All components generate a EM/IR/CS signature. Being a stealth ship doesn't mean you sticking red hot sun turbo mav thrusters on your ship is going to make them low-sig.

The SC cooling units shunt all the heat into a highly pressurized liquid medium and stores it all between landings. So in essence you're flooding the thermostatic lattice into a hyper-conductive substrate composed of highly ionized manifolds along the EPS system grid.

The day we actually get to see one of these "in-depth" systems implemented is the day I will trust CIG.

Currently what we have is so fucking barebones and has been done a million times before in other games.

With things like the HUD they keep saying "Oh what we got here is just a CRUDE PRE-OMEGA ALPHA VERSION of the ACTUAL system.

You still have formations so you can use the claw or whatever, but I think the engine bugged it out. A group of destroyers, frigates and support ships will see the support ships flying ahead and beyond the group rather than staying with them.

They just ported HW1 to HW2 engine which led to some of HW2 mechanics leaking in

Get the Hornet. The consensus is that the Cutlass is ass.

The Cutlass can't fight. Its x-box huge cross section means you are going to take hits, fucking thing is like a flying barn. You maneuvering thrusters are too easy to take out so you will end up spinning helplessly when you lose them and you will loose them because of their placement on the hull. Small cargo hold for the price of the ship. Also most likely you will be KoS by player characters because of the Cutlass being a dedicated pirate boat: Who thought that was a good idea?

The Hornet is pretty much done as well. It can take hits really well, good shields and seemingly robust systems means it can survive a few hits. It is maneuverability albeit it isn't that fast in a dead run compared to other ships, but you dont have to worry about spinning out of control when one of your thrusters gets blown off. It mounts good weapons that all can gimble if you get the canard turret, now if only CiG put the main turret into the shop so I can equip it instead of the store all.

Be a Hornet fag and drink Cutlass baby tears.

Most Hornet pilots are shit. Right now I wouldn't worry too much about how the ships perform versus each other since, you know, alpha and all that. But the Cutlass has just been a turd ever since its inception. I mean look at those fucking engines you lose one of those fucking things and there goes a HUGE portion of your maneuvering power. Cutlass fags have been crying for a whole year that their ship is awful and it will continue to be awful since CiG has yet to indicate they will do any work to it. Mean while the Hornet functions in its intended role if you are not a retard. I have no idea what role the Cutlass is supposed to fill, other than inducing buyers remorse in the pilot.

I don't think any ship should fulfill any particular role aside from the large ones, I mean, for small ships they should just design variants, like a Reliant/Aurora variant for the mining starter ship, if we have a ship at every size that is the most effective at its designated role it'll just make variants useless

Rant over, back to the question, it is supposed to be a pirate fighter, but then we have no idea how would piracy actually turn out in game so it's hard to "fix" it

I believe it was designed to be a light cargo hauler with some guns for self defense. But it was sold as a, nudge and a wink, pirate ship. The idea being you fly in, open comms, say stand and deliver, and promptly get your ass kicked because you ship was designed by a retard. Go watch the two commercials that have Cutlasses in them and the ship has nothing going for it.

https://youtu.be/vO7RxsZpcKc
It gets BTFO in the Freelancer commercial.

https://youtu.be/qE7TFnSl9y4
In its own commercial it manages to out maneuver a Vanduul Scythe which just about any ship can do. Doesn't fire a fucking shot. And is flying by someone with a Tumbler account.

>>127107439
I don't know what role the ship is going to fulfill in the verse. They could have wrote it up as a utility craft that has a nasty habit of turning up as a technical, pic related, in small militias and pirate armies, look up the Toyota Wars a perfect cross for the Cutlass. My fix for it?

Its sold as a cheap utility ship with a lot of mod potential. One variant has a lot of hull armor and powerful engines for working in dangerous environments, has potential for modding into a Technical. Another var has a modest cargo cap with nothing but engines; sold as a ambulance, possible mod into a high speed smuggling ship or interceptor. Another var has a good sensor, cargo cap, and mods for Search and Rescue ops, possible mod into boarding ship.

You just have to think of a legit ship that can be modified into a nefarious purpose. I like the idea of a Flashfire mount giving the Cutlass an S4 fixed. Which fits the Technical theme rather well.
>>
>>127107439
Honestly?
It's already an Ambulance and Police ship.
The Cutty Black is just an Armed Cargo ferry.
For some reason people think Pirate = Fighters.
Cutlass's in groups will probably be successful hunting larger ships, decked out in suckerpunches and other non-lethal guns, boarding them via docking, and carting off the goods.

Can someone explain to me how the cost of $110 USD for a ship in game is justified?

That's like twice the cost of a triple A game
I mean yeah, the effort gone into each ship is impressive, but worth maybe $10 ontop of the cost of the base game.

Weren't we supposed to be able to use ingame currency to buy new ships? How do you justify anything other than a massive grind that takes 500 years of ingame play to buy one of these ships to the guys who paid $110 for them? How?
>>
>>127109884
You can get the game for $45. Wait. And then earn your damn ships.

Almost every page tells you that pledging now isn't needed. It's a "thank you" for continued support, knowing full well that these ships will be earned ingame at reasonable timescales (CR said a Connie would take only a couple days of grind -- for instance).

PLEDGE shop is fully optional. You do not need to PLEDGE for the ships. PLEDGE shop is being taken down during BETA. People buying ships pry much only have the added benefit of a full hangar at launch with minimal funds (unless they own a fuckton of starter packs that they CCU'd) & LTI which is a minor convenience.

Its not. But it doesn't stop people from spending 1,000 on candy crush, or clash of clans, or planetside 2, or mechwarrior online, or Diablo 3's real money auction house. People will still buy Star Wars: Battlefront's 60 USD season pass, or Elite Dangerous Horizons which is a thinly veiled season pass for a empty and broken game. Everything is fuck and awful, Anon. >Can someone explain to me how the cost of $110 USD for a ship in game is justified?

It's justified because all the ships are available in-game for in-game credits. This game is crowdfunded. You pay in $110 you get a nice space ship for your money. Don't want to pay $110? Don't pay $110. Nobody said you had buy the nice ships with real money to get them.

We have gone over this a hundred thousand times and people just can't seem to get through their heads. There is no major publisher funneling money into this game. There is no established industry giant channeling 100 million fucking dollars toward Chris Roberts. We fund this game with our money.
>>
Is the MANTIS GT-220 on a gimble by itself? If I put it on my hornet is it fixed?
>>
>>127110654
Look, that kinda makes sense, but you can't also tell me that there isn't something a little fucked up with that.

If it's not pay to win then these guys paid a lot of money for these ships, and whatever you say they aren't paying for the game any more, it's funded and done, they're paying for the ships.
If it is pay to win then that fucking sucks.

They way they've gone about this is completely fucked and injustifiable for one cohort. I don't give a shit what the defense is, the sales pitch is "here, gib shekels and you get this ship in game." which you do, but you expect shekels to equal time invested in this game and $275 is an unresonable amount of time to invest to your average player.

Some one is getting fucked here anon, stop pretending like they're not.
>>
>>127110927

>Some one is getting fucked here anon, stop pretending like they're not.

Yeah I'll tell you who is getting fucked: The Big Publisher-controlled video game industry. They wish they could rake in 100 million dollars in a few years by showing some pretty JPGs to a bunch of slavering fucking nerds with too much disposable income.

Look, ask yourself this question: How do you pay to win a multiplayer sandbox game?

Let's use EVE Online as an example. You can buy $300 worth of PLEX, sell it all in-game for credits, and then buy up super great ships and parts with money you essentially paid to get. Are you now paying to win? No, you're not.

Why not, you ask? Because it has been proven time and again that a bunch of drooling idiots in cheap garbage ships can swarm literally -anything- to death. Goon Swarm throws billions of ISK worth of ships piloted by their Corporation's members at larger expensive ships with stupid powerful Dead Space modules and still come away with a profit. Keep in mind, the vast majority of Goon Swarm members are basically impoverished by EVE Online standards, and yet they can tear the ass out of anyone who drops hundreds of dollars on a suped up Mega-Ship.

Star Citizen won't be any different. If you're in a smaller, cheaper ship you can run away from anybody who fucks with you and people are less likely to do so. If you're in a bigger, more expensive ship that can shoot down a half dozen Hornets you're a great big juicy chicken just waiting to be plucked and boiled.
>>
>>127110927
If they're unattainable and only available via Cash Shop or via Pre-Order only bonus, then it's a crock of shit. But they're none of those things.

People who bought all these ships have paid a very large premium (mostly) knowing full well that it was for stuff that'll be pretty attainable in the final product.

>it's funded and done
Sadly this is a retarded idea assuming there's a point where taking in money should stop. CIG's a for-profit entity. People want to throw money at them so they can look at pretty jpegs while keeping the machine chugging along.

People are willing to keep funding in droves. Otherwise, this business model would have failed long long long ago.

The only people getting fucked are the people who believe they "NEED" to buy a better ship because they believe the pledge shop is the final-release cash-shop.

I think you're applying very EVE-specific logic to a game that won't play by those rules at all.

Not looking great for the Vanguard gat. Looks like they're going to make the projectiles slow as balls.

There is a big difference between shiny ships that are lost forever once killed and getting unlimited supply of capital ships (that even come with some basic weapons).

You talking about LTI?

Because the replacement times on larger ships is going to be a long fucking time, and the cost to actually refit them from what you get back is going to be 2-3x the cost of the hull itself.

Its hardly an unlimited supply.

Sadly we don't know the detailed in-game pricing yet, so we can only speculate. I'm just trying to say that LTI is a very risky thing and must be carefully balanced if they don't want to turn this game into a wallet simulator. What's worrying is that they sell more than just beefed up starter ships like during the initial crowd funding. Many groups will start with several capital ships on DAY ONE, how are similar sized groups with only starter ships supposed to compete?

If it's a known issue why isn't it ever listed under known issues in patch notes?

Go back to RSI, grandpa.

They've never discussed any specifics about it. Fact is, the hull itself (which is already expensive to begin with), is basically permanently yours. In eve online you lose it and get a pitiful amount of money back from "insurance".

Cost to refit them is a valid point, but the same goes for eve online m8, so that's moot.

Many groups start with heavy bombers day one, that are going to be far better fitted / closer to optimal than a stripped down Idris or Javelin.

All the impression I've got from SC and Chris talking about it so far is that a big ship is just one tool in your box, and by no means equals an 'I win' button, no matter how many free hulls you get.

and what about groups with just auroras? Don't they matter too?
