-RECENT NEWS-
>3DS
-Menu/Iron/Browserhax all work on the latest firmware again!
-To install Menuhax, you need to have changed your theme once.
-GET IRONFALL NOW. smea released an old version downloader! (Try in Menuhax, Browserhax struggles with this.)
***Newly announced hacks aren't actually out yet, just the tools to make them happen
-memchunkhax2 (now a WIP) is a new kernel11 exploit that works on every firmware including 10.3, and allows downgrading to 9.2 sans NAND backup.
-SNSHAX permits New 3DS's on 10.1 or below to downgrade.
-NTRCardHax is a kernel 9 exploit allowing piracy, but relies on special hardware like a card.
-ARM9LOADERHAX injects a payload directly into New 3DS bootrom, but requires a way to write nand via hardware.

>Wii U
-Apparently, the Wii U and 3DS use the same fucking keys... LOL
-Hykem expects to release an IOSU by February. It will work up to 5.5. https://gbatemp.net/threads/367489/page-672#post-5869658

>PS4
-cturt has decided to stop researching PS4 exploits
http://wololo.net/2015/12/18/cturt-publishes-ps4-kernel-exploit-technical-details-decides-to-end-hacking-research-on-ps4/

>Vita
-Cobra Black Fin was announced. http://wololo.net/2015/12/07/cobra-black-fin-an-upcoming-dongle-to-play-ps-vita-isos/
-A Vita update got released, you might not want to update since it fixes the email exploit.

Hey, I didnt even care about CFW prior to Monster Hunter X coming out. I just assumed if I didn't need to pirate, I didnt need it. So I actually got invested in the small n3DS bundle. It's in Japan getting a cap card and everything... and I was kicking myself until this week.

Moral of the story could be that I'm a dummy, but it's also that there's no reason you couldn't just wait a bit. None of this news that just came out impresses you? You could even get one now so Ironhax is at least set.
>>
>>126929370
You know I forgot to also say I recently bought a XL n3DS from this seller. It was a good transaction other than you know this week's news making it a ridiculous purchase. But if your heart's set on a small Japanese n3DS, I can recommend this.

http://wololo.net/2015/12/30/linux-on-the-ps4-fail0verflow-showcase-linux-running-on-the-ps4-run-a-pokemon-demo/

In regards to this, if as is stated and the webkit exploit requires 1.76 to run, is this essentially stating that the first CFW entry-point will be for 1.76 units. And its essential to secure a 1.76 model before its released, so it alleviates the need to overpay?

Why are there so many r4 versions?
>>
>>126935907

Once upon a time there was just one that became extremely popular. It was ubiquitous enough that DS flashcarts were often just called R4s
Then all the chinks wanted a piece of that pie so they called their cards R4s
>>
>>126935907
Because their producers want to make money.

Is it hard? I'm guessing you swap the hdd and download an old firmware? Or it's something harder?

Also can I expect to play ps2 games on ps3 with some modding + emulation? That would be a deal breaker for me, considering PS3 has usb 2 and decent lan/wifi capabilities too.

Generally I'm a retard when it comes to modding, as I've only modded a wii with the shitty disc swap method, can you softmod the ps3 and put some emulators / play ps3 isos and ps2 games off hdd? I don't really care about online at this point.
>>
>>126952579
baka, senpai

>>126952660
No, that's not how it's done. You have to downgrade it via a e3 flasher, which requires some soldering (there are solder-less versions out there), and isn't noob friendly.

It's harder, but doable if you can follow instructions.
You need to get a piece of hardware like this.
You disassemble the PS3, place the hardware in, copy the firmware off, patch it and put it back.
No soldering necessary, just don't do anything stupid.

You can use an emulator on the later fat models and all slim models, but the first fat ones have hardware support for PS2 games.

Once you have CFW, you can stick ISOs on the hard drive and they will play.

So I'm supposed to look at fat models if I want to softmod them and be able to emulate stuff? Or what's the deal here?
>>
>>126952660

Very interesting, thank you for helping a retard like me understand.

Now I'm very interested. Maybe can you point me to an exact model I should be looking for to have a perfect "emulation" experience? Slim or fat? If I recall fat models have problems with the newest ps3 games but have the hardware support for ps2 (and perhaps other console emulations). While I'm shopping for a new ps3 (used, of course) should I look into any particular firmwares? Or model? If I buy one that is already too updated I'll have to buy the e3 flasher, but eh.

Also is the modding necessary (place the firmware to play ps3 isos and the ps2 backups) doable or it's complicated? Am I automatically fucked from online if I softmod the ps3?

I hate being this fucking annoying but I want to understand desu senpai

>>
>>126953681
That's the thing. It isn't going to be perfect on any model unless it's a fat, and even then...

You can go online, but I wouldn't risk it, especially since most people used all of the IDPS (think model number) to go online, and Sony banned most of 'em.

Modding isn't complicated if you READ the material before just jumping in.

Just remember, you need a model that's on 3.55 (so you're probably going to get a slim, as fatties that high are really really old now), and you're going to want to probably use a rebug firmware.
>>
>>126953681

If you want hardware compatibility, you want one of the first fat PS3s. CECHA or CECHB.
Models up to CECHE have partial PS2 support, slightly better than total emulation and worse than full PS2 support.
All subsequent PS3 models have purely emulated PS2 support.

Additionally, to be able to downgrade the PS3 must have been on 3.55 firmware when it came from the factory. That includes all fats and most slims, but just check the list here to see which work.
http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Models

Online works but it's possible you might get banned. There are patches you can use to be safer.

Do you happen to know if boxed slims (basically brand new, never powered up once) are on a good firmware (3.55 or lower)? I might just pull the trigger on a new one (maybe off shelf from some ebay website) instead of buying an already (probably) updated one from some kiddo.

No super slim was manufactured on 3.55 firmware. A lot of slims weren't. So they cannot be softmodded.

No. You can only downgrade as far as the firmware the PS3 was originally manufactured on.

I'd say a slim is better because the majority of fats don't have much better PS2 support. The ones that do have poor longevity. Be certain that it's either 3.55 or downgradable.

Pick Rebug as your CFW. Enable cobra and webman.
You don't need any extra tools now. You can use your standard file manager to transfer stuff to the internal HDD with wifi/ethernet - or if you prefer, you can use an external one. The PS3 will just recognise them in the XMB.

In terms of tutorials..? I'm not really sure, now that I think of it. I haven't used a tutorial in such a long time.. I don't think I can answer that question, I'm sorry.

In terms of emulation, if you just get one (of the many) cfw's that have cobra features, you should be able to play ps2 backups. I just stick with Rebug because I haven't had any issues with them. Multiman will manage your ps3 and ps2 iso's with covers and such. You can also FTP games to the hdd without having to do much work.
