A lot of it was very ff12-esque in that it focused on the politics and rivalries between the city-states and militias. Even though they were supposed to be allied, the maelstrom would routinely loot the flames' supplies. And the adders were just like "OH MY GOD GROW UP"
The black shroud was also much more intimidating. They don't make much reference to it in ARR, but those elementals everyone's so scared of? Thanalan used to be a rainforest. Don't anger the elementals.
There was also one really cool area that everyone fucking despised because doing anything in there SUCKED. But it was patrolled by dryads that would kill you instantly if you walked with a weapon out or ran. Dryads are the elementals' sentinels or some shit.
