I mostly play games with partial translations, since machine translators don't do menus well (plus it generally means that SOMEONE liked the game). Most RPG maker games are really straightforward. If you get stuck, check the ULMF thread or look for a walkthrough (etigoya on hongfire has like three hundred pages of walkthroughs).

Ruby does get cycled out later by other Female party members who you can recruit for free.
But short answer is that she's a mage, and so if you want her to be an effective unit, you have to either spend money on MP replenishers, or call the day off and rest, which means paying her hiring cost again in the morning, which is the second highest (if you're not paying with your body)
She does have a familiar for fighting, but he's garbage past the first couple levels.

Well, I can see you've solved one problem that would stop you from playing.
Make sure that you:
-have the correct RTP installed
-set the file permissions so they're NOT read-only for everything in the directory (just right click in the folder, select properties and you should see the option)
