Estoc, Rapiers, and the like are good for PvE but have low durability so they're better for PvP
Crypt blacksword, Drakekeeper hammmer are all really good but are probably better in PvP

The statues in the place you're at are not necessary to progress through the game though.
If you finished the gutter and made it to black gulch you will get another branch
There is a branch in the chest right after the bonefire in the bastille. After you kill the pursuer and take the bird to the bonfire, go left into the room with the chest and pursuer, that chest has a branch

Crossbows are good utility, especially in pvp. They can be used to interrupt magic casting and finish off low-health runners. In PvE you can use it for cheesing. It has extra cheese power since you can have a shield in the other hand.

I'm thinking of using the craftsman hammer and miracles, but I'm scared since you don't get any twinkling titanite until the end game, will I have trouble using a +2 craftsman hammer for most of the game? You can beat the game with a broken thief sword if you manage your stamina and roll.
Enemies are weak to strike. You can also get it to about +4 before you even kill all four souls.

I feel kind of bad because I played almost all the game with the Claymore, but I beat the last 2 places (catacoms-tomb of giants and kiln) with the silver knight spear, and I also changed my armor after losing like 10 times to the last boss to make things easier.
I kinda feel like I cheated.
I want to play as a cleric in my second playthrough
Patches was like the last npc I discovered in my playthrough. Is it possible to make him sell me the cleric set earlier?
Also, until Anor Londo (including that place) the game looked like a 10/10. The last third makes the game worse. But still a great game.

Remember that after infusion, your weapon will have to go through 2 defenses and will ultimately do less damage.

It's not misleading but the thing is a net gain of only +70 AR will usually result in a net LOSS in damage because your attacks will have to go through two sets of resistances. Only a very select few weapons are better off infused than uninfused and the Estoc isn't one of them.
Unless you're willing to change your rings around to incorporate the Lightning Clutch Ring for a lightning infusion, and then make sure to always keep Sunlight Blade cast on it will mean that you'll probably do extra damage than just leaving it uninfused with a buff.

The lost sinner's sword is probably the best UGS in the game next to the Ivory King/Fume UGS, but you can't get those until much much later on so yeah grab the LSS if you want.

The upgrade system is just their stat builder. It's where most of your damage comes from, and it's to ensure that you can only do so much damage at certain parts of the game. You need to reach x place to get +6-10 weapons. You need to reach y place to get 11-15 weapons. The embers allow you to not get too strong too fast, but only at the pace the game wants you to.

I have a str/faith build using a lightning butcher knife in DaS2. Right now I have 35 faith and 40 strength, but I only really use spells that dont scale from faith. Since I am working off 2 B scalings, is it worth me using a soul vessel and pumping faith instead of strength?

Oh, then yeah, with the way weapon buffs work, you want to minmax the axe and get as much lightning damage as possible. Bear in mind the damage fron SLB comes from the weapons lightning, damage, not the chimes or your bns.
Would you guys like the starting equipment equivalents from Demon Souls in Dark Souls?
I like that each class got two weapons to start off, so you could pick what you liked. Plus most of them are really early purchases anyways, so it's not like it changes much. And the weapons really compliment each other well. Examples:

If you are just casting buffs, i woud go with whatever chimes cast fastest. Buffs dont go off chime strength. I dont like the chime shields because they remove parries, but they arent terrible.

Tomb of the Giants is short, and underwhelming but not bad.
Duke's Archives is actually finished.
Crystal Cave is not finished.
Lost Izaleth is not as bad as everyone says, but it really feels like something out of a Metroid or Zelda game.
Lower level of New Londo is undewhelming and short. They build up Dark Wraiths as a huge threat, but they have Black Knight movesets, are slow and easy to oneshot with backstabs. Silver Knights and Anor Londo gave me more trouble.

I'm trying to determine this myself, DSS has got a shitty STR scaling and better DEX scaling than HSP. Same Lightning scaling except if the HSP is infused, then there's some intangibles like reach and speed. HSP has got the DSS beat in ATK, nearly the same Lightning damage.

The first stage of O+S is really gimmicky because of the way their attack collisions dont exist. O+S is just an overrated boss because its kind if bullshit.
It is also hard for new players because their first instinct is to run, and expose themselves to O's janky dask attacks that have to retract 6 times. They are much easier to stand and fight unlocked while walk-dodging ornstein and rolling for smough.
2nd stage is just hard because new players cant dodge buttslams.

Well the DSS is heavier than the HSP so it likely uses more stamina and has a slower recovery, but the DSS has more reach and if you bolt stab someone both the stab and bolt get counter damage applied. Just got to be perfect with spacing.

OK, shitposting aside, who else doesn't like the Four Kings? Their actual design is quite good, but the boss itself is terribly boring, and it goes against usual Souls design by being a DPS race, which means a lot of weapons that can perform perfectly fine outside of this specific boss fight do absolutely terrible if they're too slow.
Not to mention summoning, which is supposed to be an option for new players to get past a challenge instead of throwing their newfag heads against a brickwall, makes the thing way harder than it should be.
