I get what you're trying to say about "better positioning", but with Destiny; that's not a clear objective of the game.
Destiny is too fast paced for that type of playstyle. It's more suited for games like Counter Strike.
As for side strafing, what other kinds of manuevers are there to dodge bullets? Even people in Counter Strike know that you're supposed to strafe because it makes your harder to hit.

A good way to avoid the bolts is to put something in-between you and the center of the grenades circle. The bolt for you will hit the object and do nothing

Hung is a very good gun with amazing pve utility and should be used once you do get those other exotics.
Tlaloc is above and beyond one of the best pvp weapons so you should hang on to it if you ever do crucible.

I think part of the appeal was just the perkset HJ has combined with the fact that it's a vendor weapon. I'd say it's overrated, but most people seem to just call it convenient rather than godly in contrast to things like mida.
1KYS just has an ideal archetype with a good reticule (unlike plenty of other snipers). Even if you don't buy into the aim assist stuff, it's a good fucking snipe.

PvE? Defender for anything remotely challenging, absolutely essential for raids with blessing/weapons of light and instant cover. For strikes and other easy grindy stuff sunbreaker is good for dishing out lots of damage and you can melting point bosses. Striker isn't quite as good but FoH can clean up a big spawn of enemies easily.
PvP? Strikers got buffed to fuck and have a ton of options now. Twilight Memeson, Armamentarium, Inmost Light, Peregrine (and maybe others) open up different playstyles but all revolve around being up close and personal. Sunbreakers are still okay, super can guarantee 3+ kills but their neutral game is weak. Defender with Arma can use suppress grenades to shut down just about anything, super is good for capping points but that's about it. Since shotguns got mostly fucked NBP isn't that good anymore.

Feels good having all the raid exotics now. nechrochasm is a pain to get but it's worth it, it feels like a doctrine of passing in PvP but with a cool factor head explosions.
