Not a lot of love for likely the best record in speedrunning, but that doesn't diminish puncayshun's accomplishment I suppose. Sadly, it only strengthens the sad reality that the speedrunning community is dying. This record should be bringing us all holiday cheer across the gaming realm, but instead all we are going to get a few "dude nice"s, some "people still run that game?", and maybe a few of those passive aggressive tweets that seem to be all the rage in speedrunning nowadays.
But hey, people say libelous things about me on twitter all the time and I'm still hopeful for the future. All I want for Christmas is a a Speedrunning Renaissance, but the vibes I am getting from the real community (aka not /r/speedrun) are pretty much telling me that after GDQ a lot of people are pretty much done with speedrunning, or are at least making major cutbacks to the time they are putting into their speedgames. We could make speedrunning great again, we really could. Unfortunately, all anyone ever wants to do is either pretend nothing is wrong as the house burns down around them, or insult others without contributing any sort of solutions for our dying community.
Imagine a speedrunning community like the one that used to come together whenever a major record was broken. Imagine a speedrunning community like the one were people actually went to SRL to find new runners to watch instead of new runners to mock. Imagine a speedrunning community like the one were people used to tweet out thanks and congratulations rather than tweets of passive-aggressive insults just to look "cool" (also known by the majority as "autistic") in an attempt to fit in with others. /r/speedrun is a major player in the sea of negativity that is repealing the actual content creators away from speedrunning, and it needs to change its tune before it is too late. No one will be there to retweet your clever tweets about how dumb you think I am if not.
