Lots of peopple are tired of the GTA/Vivec/Imperial City/Witcher 3 city(forgot its name) where 99% of the city is just cardboard cutouts that drain resources for something you are never going to interact with.
Its part of the sreason they itnroduced radiant quests, people complained they had no reason to go to 99% of the dungeons in the game, because no ques went there, and it was just going to have the same loot as everything else, so why bother.

all i'm saying is that the theme and the story would have been better served with two things
1) a more open-ended player background
2) an intro with branching paths that follows your character as they grow up in Sanctuary hills, introduces the zany reality of living in pre-war fallout universe, etc etc, that gives the player a reason to CARE that their character lost their home and their world
with that, you've got a character thrust into the wasteland who's trying to get his home back
and he meets people in the wasteland who are trying to get THEIR homes back
like, suddenly, now, meeting Preston and the survivors and helping them rebuild Sanctuary makes sense. If i'm rebuilding my old neighborhood that I had grown attached to, I have a reason to care.
and Preston's radiant quests have you meeting other struggling settlers, one of them mentions the Great Green Jewel, and you remember going to baseball games in Boston proper and so you go visit and see what's become of the place
and boom you're in the middle of a town driven to paranoia by the fear of the institute
so you start helping them because you understand the fear of not trusting your neighbors because you grew up in the Red Scare
but then the BoS shows up and they want to start a war, and you know how wars go, they ruin homes, so you see what they're all about, and you can join them and make sure they keep the people of the commonwealth safe, or you can oppose them to stop their war
and then you hear about the Railroad, who's helping the synths, and you learn that the synths are searching for a home too, and you can either agree that they are human and deserve it or not
just by opening up the character's backstory and focusing less on "suburban husband/wife with child" and more on "here's what growing up in the propaganda filled, Red Scare, pre-war world was like" can make the entire commonwealth and all of the factions and their plans have more emotional impact on the player

Oberland is one of my favorite spots to build at.
Everyones always showing off their uber super oversized sanctuary builds and I never see anyone showing off oberland or Tenpines or anything smaller.
I also like the surroundings of oberland. a few decent spots to loot fight and gear up at.
And just a short run away from hangmans alley and that whole area.
I havent set up my base on my newest charactor *based strongly on the guy in doom 1 & 2 past the default built shack in sanctuary. But the 2nd place i'll setup is most likely going to be oberland since it's a nice spot.

My favorite spot is Country Crossing. It has enough space that I'm actually able to build something resembling a small Fallout 2-like town (AKA actually fucking civilized) with Alternative Settlements

The place where I tested it before to see if the rumors were true was in Arcjet labs when you are going through with Paladin Danse. I wanted Fusion Cells and you can get a good amount through there. But every time I looted an institute rifle or pistol, it would give me none. So I took it that it was just a myth.
I still always looted weapons for other reasons.
Maybe it's just those weapons or something where you get nothing, but I did get some from the pipe pistol I just retested with. So apparently it's not a myth like I thought it was after all.

Heres how looting works:
An enemy that you killed in combat will drop ammo, and a weapon. This weapon will give you the clips worth of ammo.
A static dead body that happens to have a pistol on it. You will loot the ammo from the body, but the weapon will give you no ammo.
A static weapon in the world, say a 10mm pistol in a drawer. When you loot this weapon, you will not get ammo from the clip.
Not 100% sure on this, but I think the enemy has to have fired a single shot from the weapon. but could just be equiped items

Literally the only real justification offered for such music being used is that "all the other records were destroyed."
That makes no sense on so many levels it isn't even funny - with the number of surviving holotapes that the player is able to find in the world, and the way they're clearly used for music storage purposes (there's a number of them scattered in Nate and Nora's audio console,) there should be significantly more of them available out in the wild.
This also ignores the amount of music production hardware that can be found in and around Boston, which should have resulted in (at least some,) limited production of new music after the war.
