Go look at, say, Bloodborne if you want to see a game with good animations. Everything in monster hunter looks stiff and artificial. I've not played X but I doubt it's much better in regards to animation than 4U, which I have played for about 450 hours and am very familiar with its subpar animations.

There's two purposes for the expeditions. The first is that killing monsters in expeditions will give you caravan points. You can can use these points to trade or multiply items at the wycoon.
The second main purpose is that after you finish an expedition and kill a couple monsters, you will receive some guild quests. These guild quests are special quests that you can level up by completing. As you level them up they become more difficult to beat and drop better things. At their highest levels, they can drop the best items in the game.
Unless you run out of caravan points, I would not pay attention to guild quests or expeditions. Keep playing through the main story and maybe some online content.

I'm talking kill times here, I main HBG and sub SA, but for example that G1 berserk tetsucabra takes me about 4-5 minutes with my HBG and 9-10 with SA, and idk man, i barely get hit and keep swinging at the monster but it just dies off way slower.

Hitting monsters with super moves that look like they would fuck them right up, causes the monster to not care 70% of the time.
4U monsters would start reeling from the second lv3 GS charge if you hit the right spot. In X I've hit dragon smasher right to the head multiple times and the monster hasn't even flinched. The hammer has the same problem.

One of the devs mentioned in an interview that they were trying to make HH more friendly to beginners because they were aware most people don't use it in the mainline games because it's too complex and slow. It has a higher default run speed but run speed up is also less effective, you can run during recitals, if you use it in weapon training they tell you how to bring up the overlay and all of its attacks are a bit faster (so it actually deals decent damage on top of applying buffs). In fact I think they made it OP, I fully expect it to be nerfed at some point.

It's possible that instead of deflection prevention the encore of speed up brings it to mainline levels (each weapon having some big features that aren't available to begin with and have to be unlocked by leveling up your skill in that weapon, with encores being the big one for HH).

My biggest issue is that you can't even see the last one until post HR100 since the guy doesn't even have enough health to make it past the 2nd one.

It really just feels like a generic mmo where they made instances a bootleg monster hunter rather than a real MH title.
It's generally quite pretty, I guess? I've played P3rd HD in emulator and Frontier so I don't really have the novelty of higher res and slightly less shitty controls that some people might have coming from just playing on 3DS.

Ostgaloa is similar in the sense that the low rank version is repel only and will just repeat phase 1 and 2 and not reveal the true form
It's even got two armor sets and two versions of each weapon for the bone disguise and the real thing

It's more like a half phase really, since you'll fight it the exact same way as phase 3 even though the attacks are a bit different
Even its enrage doesn't really do anything besides look cool and make him uselessly U-turn on his massively telegraphed charge
