You can stack a bunch of +50% element damage or the +50% damage Slayer augments for whatever type of enemy you are fighting. Mechanoid Slayer in every slot is good for fighting mechs, Ultrafauna Slayer is good for killing Telethia. Usually easier to find the materials for the slayer augments.

Don't forget to pay attention to the number of hits the arts do when comparing weapons, they're basically hitcount x Force. The good weapons are G-Buster, G-Buster2, E-Scythe, and Phoenix. Pick one of the first 3 and take Phoenix. For the rest of your weapon slots just stick to one element type and equip armor that boosts that element. Like all beam weapons if using E-Scythe, or Thermal weapons if focusing on Phoenix.
The damage of the 2 auto attack slot weapons don't really matter. Equip whichever ones that have the best augments. The Melee Attack up, Back Damage Up, etc augments on them will boost the damage of all your other weapons.

What's that point of using Ramjet Rifle on an overdrive build? You shouldn't be auto attacking during overdrive because of all the Art spam. Make sure to have an Arts Gain TP augment. That plus an art that gains TP like Primer or the Taunt arts, along with at least one attack that gives TP on hit should be enough. TP Overdrive skill can help if you really need it. Also have at least one Aura (Blue arts), using it after any other color art during overdrive extends the time limit.

My Katana drops from the Tyrant deep in the cave near Noctilum FN point 209, in the rust pool in the cave, a small crack is in the wall in the water, follow the path to the back. Once you get a sustainable overdrive going, shit hits the fan.
Make sure you unlock Ghost sniper too because it combos really well with afterburner and any other multihit arts.
Shrapnel is also pretty good for breaking appendages.

If you really invest in ground combat you should be able to deal with anything that isn't a flying mob.
You just kill shit faster with the mech but having a good ground set is totally viable.

I do have another question: I'm not sure what I'm doing with my Galactic Knight/Full Metal Jaguar build. I know that I need Blood Sacrifice (which I can get with Winged Viper/max affinity with Irina) or Essence Exchange (which involves doing Yelv's affinity quest), but beyond that I'm clueless. I've just been spamming all my Starfall attacks, and it's been working so far, but I'm also losing so much TP (and I can't completely compensate the loss with my dual guns).
What's the best way to go about with this?

My Dual Guns/Kata Build is as follows:
Incendiary Edge/Primer/Offensive Stance/Ghostuwalkah/Rising Blade/Tornado Blade/True Stream Edge/Blossom Dance for Arts.
My skills: Mighty Muscle/Aura Assault/Supreme Sword (or Red Zone, currently testing SS)/Ether Boost/Core Crusher.
If you don't have an ether Kata, then switch out Ether Boost for any sort of skill matching the swords' element. Switch out Core Crusher for Background Noise/Something else that tickles your fancy, such as CQC Master if you want part breaks, or something. If I don't want to be unable to destroy parts, I usually run Background Noise.
For your gear:
Necessary: Max TP Up XX (I have 2, you only really need one, either from your gear or from an augment).
Extend Overdrive XX (Again, probably don't need XX, but since it is consuming a slot, might as well make it XX).
For your weapon, Augments that increase damage are, expectedly, king.
Make a Negate Reflect Augment for whatever your weapon does, to switch in if necessary.
Overdrive Count Up can be a nice Weapon Augment to have, reduces the time investment for infinite Overdrive.
A necessary (IMO) augment is Arts: Gain TP XX.
This thing is so good it's not exactly fair; this means every time you click any skill? 200 TP gain.
When in Overdrive, my rotation is as follows:
Support Section: GhostWalker > Offensive Stance > Primer x2 > Attack Section: Rising Blade > Tornado Blade > True Stream Edge > Blossom Dance > Incendiary Edge, repeat if necessary.
The support section heals whatever damage I take, refreshes decoy, and builds constant TP; it can be skipped/shortened depending on necessity, sometimes Ghost Walker needs to be used off CD to survive.
I can also see the CD reduction skill Fast Forward being good; but in infinite, it's overkill.

I realize this will mostly be disregarded as trolling, but I wanted to get it off my chest.
X was one of the most disappointing games in a long, long time for me. It's not bad - on the contrary, it's pretty good. But the "roleplaying" elements are so DRASTICALLY inferior to Chronicles that it's almost heartbreaking. It's probably been the least immersive RPG I've played in recent memory. Story, writing, dialogue, voice acting - they all range from average to really, REALLY bad (with a few diamonds in the rough, there have definitely been a handful of genuinely captivating quests, and a few great characters, but the bulk are just...ugh).
The music is great, the combat is great (for what it is), the primary gameplay systems are solid, the online elements are okay, and I still have fun with my robot and trying to take down higher level tyrants/exploring the huge world, but it's so hard to avoid thinking about what "might have been". I was expecting a game that would grab my attention for weeks, and instead I find myself not even bothering to turn it on after work, and instead just slog painfully through the story on the weekends.
Ultimately, I hope it was a learning experience for Monolith, and I hope they can better combine the best from X and Chronicles into a new, better game in the future. THAT would be my dream JRPG.ALSO HOLY FUCK I'VE SEEN BETTER CHARACTER MODELS AND ANIMATIONS IN HALF-LIFE 2

I just went and explore the world the moment they let me. Then it became about getting the miranium and then research probes. By the time I knew it I was pass 50 and won one of those ether katana. So I just went overdrive and killed rape ape by the east gate till I was level 60. Also spent most of my time trying to get max level on the Arms manufacture.

All I did was just beat the first 2 phases with lower difficulty.
How I did it was control Lin, and give her +1400 TP and go into over drive and topple stun with her Melee and Topple+ skills.
Also make sure Elma doesn't have any TP skills so she'll always have an option to go into Overdrive when you do eventually hit Topple.

Full Metal Jaguar, Elma has it and its fierce DPS with only an evasion bonus to boost survivability.
Lin decently leveled and geared is a decent/good tank for the rest of the team if you have Trash Talk on her Arts bar.
Eventually she unlocks the Shield Screen skill (% damage resist with Shield active) which heavily drives up her tankiness.
Hell just take Elma/Lin everywhere you go while exploring since you'll need them for 12 chapters of story missions.
You can clear out affinity missions during postgame and bring along whoever you want then.

I'm trying to farm materials for my augments, but I'm not even sure if the path I'm taking is the right one or not (farming for max TP, Potential and Melee Attack boosts). Pressing (X) in the class selection screen changes between arts/skills so you can check what you're getting.

You can do those as early as you want. There's no real need to do any kind of minmaxing for affinity or story missions. Playing well will get you through the more difficult parts.

Again you can clear them out postgame if you want (easy to raise affinity then), or just leave one on your team (Elma/Lin take up the other slots) while you blow down story missions.
