Final quest was great, but the ending really fell flat.

Yeah a semi-unified Commonwealth with you as the head of the military would be kinda cool. The Railroad could start slowly adapting all gen 3 synths into society and providing jobs , they wouldn't need memory wipes anymore obviously. The BoS presumably would start regulating tech and kill everything, but provide a string defense. The Institute would be interesting with you at the the helm, perhaps you could choose which tech paths they focus on and determine how to treat synths.

The CPG existed before. You know how the real fucking minutemen paved the way for a government to be formed by securing the colonies from Britain? Wouldn't it make sense for the minutemen to now secure the Commonwealth from raiders, mutants, and outside forces to pave the way for a government to be formed?
It's almost like the name has historical significance. Their current goal is to make the Commonwealth safer. It should be piss easy as General to convince them that creating a legitimate government is the only way to ensure stability in light of their history and recent events in the game with BoS showing up and asking for tribute, the institute wiping out settlements, and raider gangs ceaselessly attacking them.

Was there any reason the story gave that explained why they needed to rush to the Commonwealth? NYC is supposed to be a crater/parking lot like Salt Lake City, and there's still quite a few settlements between the Capital Wasteland and the Commonwealth to purge/loot.

RR has been dumping synths in the CW and chances are someone found out about them there. BoS either hears rumors about the Institute in DC or from their scout teams. Scout teams report rumors and the energy readings they've gathered. BoS comes to the conclusion that the Institute is against what they stand for and a force already that will only grow stronger. They show up to end the threat before it begins.
