At the rate new content is released and the rate you are able to obtain said content, catching up completely will be a near impossible feat unless you bot or grind your gold cap daily as a f2p player, and pray they don't release an xpac in the next few months. Even then you very likely wont catch up or be competetive unless you spend some money.
Serious question. How do people become "average 7+ wins" in arena, if arena matchmaking attempts to pit your deck against one with a similar record?
If you know what you're doing, you can definitely bully newer/terrible players to get to 3-X, sure, but then it seems like the competition would become much stiffer from then there out. If each win past 3 knocks out the bottom inferior half of your potential competitors, it seems to me that statistically hit the wall at 4 wins.
For what it's worth I currently tend to bounce between 3 and 6 arena wins. 7 or more is when everything clicks right and I've gotten... maybe three or four decks that have gone all the way to 12 in a few months of playing?
I just can't fathom how if matchmaking is "fair" that anyone can consistently outdraft and outplay the increasing concentration of good decks+good pilots to claim an average of 7+.

There are decks that have turns where they can't just conjure a way to remove a Trogg played midgame, not after blowing their removal on the other aggro threats to stay alive.
And then it's mass overload with Ancestral Knowledges, Lava Spikes, Lightning Bolts, Crackles, and then suddenly all that overload doesn't mean shit because lol, Lava Shock. Suddenly the Trogg is some 6-8/3 AND all that burn.
As for Doomhammer+Rockbiter weapon that combo's been in since release, it's just that now with a critical mass of burn cards and overload effects building around it as an actual finisher has become possible.

I play mill, a lot. I really enjoy the deck type but it's a tough thing to like in a game as aggro as this one. The rogue varients do poorly in this meta because of all that aggro. You typically just can't keep up with the healing and removal.
The druid version however I do have quite a lot of fun with, and am hovering around rank 10 with. People typically expect you to be ramp or aggro which can be played to an advantage as sometimes you want to avoid dropping deathlord so they mill themselves for you. The real goal is to just keep the board clear and survive. Mill when it's opportunistic.

Streamers also play 8+ hours a day on other people's money. If you exclusively do arena over a long period of time you just may average out. But for the average player it tends to be a losing venture because the sample of times through the mill is much smaller.
Good cards being locked into adventures is so much fucking cancer compared to being part of an expansion. At least in the expansion, I can use my dust and craft the good cards.

Rogue is a class that sits on the edge of okay and completely broken. A single chance for a coin alone has made a deck viable. They are one slightly good card away from being 90% of the meta, killing people in one turn after milling half their deck.
However, Rogue isn't nearly as played as the decks listed as cancer, which makes the stupid shit it can do less noticed. The stuff I listed as cancer is 90% of your match ups from 5 to legend right now.

The list is mainly Control Priest, namely with Entomb. It's "frustrating" to play against because it takes forever to play out a victory, usually. While it has some early game minions, they're usually only able to maintain a board and not push through for a decisive victory. The "real" win condition is Entombing a big threat and then replaying it on your side, usually to massive amounts of ass-blastedness on the other side of the screen.
However, the deck deviates somewhat. Elise is in there because when the map is drawn, it turns the deck of control cards into hilarious beefy gas. Usually.
And then there's Arch-Thief Rafaam, who is basically a huge greedy git who steals anything and everything shiny. Which makes Entomb Priest a fitting deck for him... and the deck is all golden cards... and it plays Elise, which replaces the deck with all golden-rarity (legendary) cards...
It's just several levels of humor overlapping for an overall silly theme that remains moderately competitive on ladder. It's perfect.

Because ranked resets to as low as rank 20 if he hasn't been playing for a couple of months. If he's recently resumed playing, he's going to have to climb back up from rock bottom... and unfortunately a whole bunch of low rankers are going to get dickstomped by him.
I had a T1 constructed ramp druid deck circa Hearthstone's original release back in the day and recently picked the game up again. With the complete overhaul of the ranked system, this meant I started at rock-rock bottom of rank 25. I ascended to 15 with only one random loss at rank 18 to some hilarious aggro god draw, but I saw things like Holy Smite to face turn 1 and unironic Shieldbearers.
It made me sad, I definitely assblasted at least a dozen people that evening. But at least I wasn't playing some slow-ass excruciating why-even-bother deck like wallet warrior when I did so - druid combo is at least a quick death that you can understand immediately, and the cards involved are all in core.

Should I dust Chillmaw? It's basically become the Van Cleef of priests, in that the only deck that could use it has no real need for it anymore.

You don't understand. Paladins hero power alone beats warriors because their removal is limited and your dudes are not. As long as you don't go full retard, you will always have a good chance against warriors with paladin.
