For me, VN's like Euphoria and Saya no Uta are VN's that I will never read. Maybe their story is really something else, but their level of "messed up" is a big no-no for me

Annoys me when translators pretend the only alternatives are to devote every waking moment to a project or to just let it rot for years with no progress whatsoever. If you're really so busy with real life shit that you can't devote even an hour or two each week to working on this shit, then just have the decency to drop it and stop trying to pretend it's still going.
Worst ones are the translators with blogs full of "we're still alive guys, really!" posts every 6 months or so and nothing else.

It would be barely moving. Let's say a translator works at a pretty fast rate. 1,000 words an hour is pretty quick for a fiction translator. Translating a 500,000 word VN, that's 500 weeks worth of activity. Or ten years worth of work. Then there's the TLC and editing process.
It takes a LOT of time.
To put it in perspective, if you translate a thousand words a week, you'll LOOK like you aren't moving for months.

Why would you recommend the best moege to a beginner? Everything else after that would be only a disappointment.
I know I'm about to kick a hornet's nest, but I think VNs like Euphoria are a threat to the western VN community.
Japan's a very different country from the west, and IMO it's easier for some lunatic in the US to forcibly reenact some of the sadistic acts that they've developed a taste for (gun laws, etc.). Imagine what'll happen to the VN community when one lunatic does so and the media discovers Euphoria on his hard drive. It wouldn't matter if he had that taste before reading any VN-- the media would go insane. The VN community would be demonized, and believe me, it wouldn't be hard at all, considering some of the stuff out there.
I think VN localizers need to draw a line somewhere, considering the differences between western and Japanese countries and cultures, otherwise, one lunatic can make it so that everyone's afraid of having MangaGamer/JAST/etc. appear on their credit card/PayPal statements.
They might be earning some money from Euphoria, but it might come back and bite them in the ass, hard.

My guess would be that the Japs don't have one big, central site for that stuff like we have vndb but rather many smaller ones with smaller user bases. 23 seems too high for "real" reviews and too low otherwise since I expect a JP release of KS to attract at least moderate interest.

Sachi is okay too, it does something that a lot of eroge don't, it uses the whole cast. You know how when you enter an Xgirl route in some games and suddenly all the other girls dissapear? well, it's not the case here, they are still around and they have good roles.
Yumiko's and Michiru's route are just bad, they have some funny moments and that's it.

Just a heads-up, if you're expecting something like a steady progression from classmate to lover, that only happens, arguably, in Yumiko's route.
Every single route has some issue surrounding the girl Yuuji has to fix before he can stick his weenie in her funbox, which means the heavy-handed drama comes into play something serious.
If you don't mind it, then by all means, but zero of them are your typical moege relationship experiences.
Interesting routes are Makina's, which for the first half is like an extension of the common route and the second half lots of action, and Amane's, which is like one long episode of Bear Grylls with lots of sex in it.
The other three routes are mostly drama. Honestly, I wouldn't blame you if you put it down after the common - it's the best part. However, the common route was stellar, so it's not like the routes are bad when compared to the common moege, just that they pale in comparison to the common.

This reminds me of one thing I really dislike about the Tsukihime manga.
In the manga Sacchin is closer to Shiki and Arihiko and doesn't disappear etc., which doesn't just show comparatively little of her character (although she gets a lot more scenes of just being friends with the 2), but also eliminates one of Arihiko's best and most important scenes.
When Sacchin goes missing he doesn't care, which is pretty shocking because until that moment one had only seen the very caring Arihiko who'd worry about Shiki all the time.

Chinese and Japanese are two separate language families. Princess Evangille - fantastic buildup and great romance, suffers from weak resolutions to conflicts.
Hoshizora no Memoria - Fantastic soundtrack, good art, interesting story, adorable characters ( except for Chinami who is annoying as fuck and Aoi), but has a few plot issues in the hidden route. Still all around my favorite Moege.
Koirizo - The most laid back and chill Moege ive read. Relaxing setting, casual plot, play this purely for cute girls doing cute things because nothing really happens, but its still good times. Also has Umi who will give you cavities and a Christmas Cake route which is a rarity for us EOPs.
If my heart had wings (IMHHW) - Suffers from poor translation and lacks editing in Agehas route. DO NOT PLAY WITHOUT RESTORATION PATCH. That said, it has high production value, fairly interesting story and goes surprisingly deep into basic aviation. The fandisc b8 in this title was REAL.
