They should do more big maps like that in the future, and just have the objective dictate where the traffic will go to.

I think the size is fine, only on Domination I'd say the objectives are a bit spread out and it really splits the teams although I kind of like it because it usually means 1v1, 2v2 or the unlucky 2v1 can occur.

The creation of the brit 75mm gun is actually rather interesting, and explains why the brits settles for such a crappy gun (against tanks anyways)
the brits wanted a tank gun which had a decent HE shell since the 57mm 6 pounder HE shell was shit.
Engineers noticed the 75mm propellant cartridge was basically the same diameter as the 6 pounder propellant cartridge.
so they bored out the barrel of the 6 pounder from 57mm to 75mm, and made a few changes to the breech
the result was a gun which could fire a good HE round, using existing ammunition, parts, and mounting, without having to take the time and effort to develop an entirely new gun, and tanks could easilly be converted to or from 6 pounder and 75mm
overall it was a smart move, especially with how britain was strained for materials

This is probably what's happening.
The bounce check is the first check that's done and the penetration/overmatch check is the last one, so the bounce check just overrides the penetration bonuses
e.g a Tiger shoots an angled T-34, the game determines that the shell is going to bounce and the overmatch/normalization bonus is not applied.

It might be large, but due to the weird topography and artificial barriers it might as well be a tiny map. Tunisia is a straight up fps maps, not even a hyperbole. The town is basically juse a general wwII shooter. El Alamein has potential, but again too many artifical barriers like weird rock placement. We dont get large open swathes of desert either. The best we get is the southern part of the map, which looks like the sahara with all the sanddunes. How hard is it to give flat terrain with gentle slopes. A lot of us were fearing the new maps would basically be a brown finland/ash river. It appears those fears were not unfounded.

Following that train of thought we cant have any of the maps as anachronisms would take place either way. Hell, most of the matchups wouldnt have happened anyway. But thats not the point. What should matter is that we get highly accurate maps and vehicles to play out our wwII and cold war (gone hot) fantasies. Gaijin should strive to keep the mechanics realistics. The matchups can be fantasy. That was always the case anyway as realistic (historic) matchups were reserved for events (and I guess SB now).

In the air, this is easy. The maps matter little, considering you fight above them and not in them. Ground this is tricky. Realistic maps might have their place when we get shit like accurate optics and actual tank internals. But even then, how do you balance the gameplay to still make it enjoyable for Realistic and Arcade? Just remove those maps from rotation? That's never going to happen, as that would require Gaijin dedicating resources to the niche SB audience.
It just doesn't work with how WT GF works as of right now, imo. I'm not adverse to historical maps, but I think they'll only work once we at least get IL-2 or RO2 levels of tank realism.
