Old hunters drop some mediocre gems that are much better than what main game offers up to Amelia though.
Best DLC gems are 'locked' after 3 bosses when you reach Fishing hamlet. Brains drop 22.3 physical droplets + usual variations.
There are also half decent lightning gems from lightning wizards in FH if you're going ARC.
What should I prioritise stats wise with Ludwig, /bbg/?
Also, do you think roar and anime bone are fitting tools for him to use? Maybe augur too? I also think the lead and blue elixirs kinda fit ("found in most desperate nightmares". "numbs the brain")

kite and bait attacks the first half and hit the head when she leaves it on the floor, you can put in an attack on the arm if you feel brave when she spits lasers/that brown fluid
when it rips the arms off get between the rear legs, it will trigger a jump, walk a couple steps forward (aligned with the tail) and do a charge attack. it will hit her head. then turn 180 to get between the legs again. sometimes while waiting for jump she does a flurry of attacks with explosions, they wont hit you but when you hear its done just turn 180 hit the head again.

Item discovery affect how frequently things drop, not IF they drop. Every character starts with 100 discovery, and it doesn't go up all that much on its own unless you pump ARC.

Ludwig probably knew Gehrman, but he wasn't an Old Hunter as far as we know, since he was the Church's first. I'm assuming that designation means he wasn't taught by Gehrman, so basically you using animebone or not depends on your interpretation of the timeline for his chalice diving for his sword.
Assuming it was chalice diving, anyway. Might not've been, since it doesn't say what other weapon he employed to hunt. I doubt something like that was found on the surface though.

I was thinking more of the "a technique particular to the first hunters" part. Since Ludwig was the very first hunter of the Church (which of course does not imply that he was hunting during the time of Gehrman) I would assume that he did find out about this art from one of the first hunters overall, if not Gehrman himself
And yes, he probably wore something very specific, but the shawls are only big on the Prospector's and Executioner's sets, there isn't much choice otherwise
