I'm a britfag with an American 3DS. I've been importing SMT and Persona games since 2004, m8. It's cheaper, I have access to the limited editions and the eshop is so fucking cheap. I have to wait a little longer for physical games to ship from Amazon US (waited an extra week for MH4U) but that's the literal only downside. I'll never ever buy region locked consoles, but if I am pushed, I'll always default to the American machine. When mainline SMT went to 3DS, it was the obvious choice. No way do I have a US PS2, UK plugs would set the bloody thing on fire. No, my advice to you is to look up someone who will chip your console for you on eBay. This was years ago when I was like 17 and didn't even have my own PC, but I had to pay £22 to get it sent to Southhampton, guy chipped it for £15 and then sent it back. The chip is now ancient, but the PS2 still works for my Megaten needs. PC emulation is really the way to go though, that's how I got into Drakengard. Emulation really led me to see just how shit the old 50HZ PAL games were, it's shocking. Most of them don't even emulate well.
The 3DS is easier to import because the plugs we use in the UK are safe to use with it, no need for clunky transformers and the like. I know that Europe (the continent, should I say) uses different plugs to us though, as well as America. I would be very wary of actually importing a foreign home console, though thankfully the need for that is much smaller now.

Also I have another question regarding fusions. It's generally a better idea to fuse your demons right? I've been doing so, but I can't help but notice that with some fusions, sometimes their stats aren't quite as good as some of the originals'.
Say if I have a Lv. 12 Pele and a Lv. 11 whatever, and my Pele has a shitton of MP, and I'm trying to fuse them into a Leanan Sidhe but her MP overall would actually be worse than my Pele, and her magic stats overall worse as well. Would she be capable of growth or something? That's just an example.

Tam Lin main use is that he learns Estoma Sword. This skill "enchants" your melee weapon for a bit, allowing you to eliminate mobs without having to fight them.
It's a really nice skill for later in the game, but Tam Lin really doesn't have the MP to use it often.
As for stats, demons have 3 possible HP/MP ratios: 5-6:1, 3:1 and 1:1. On levelup, demons get 5 points randomly distributed between their stats. Either now or later on, you'll be able to buy apps that give additional points into determined stats on demon levelup, for a total of +1 to each stat and +5 to randomly distributed stats on levelup.

There are good and bad grinds. Like, grinding for a demon in SMT/Persona, you know you're always gonna get it eventually. With NNK, you could literally grind a familiar for hours and get nothing. The capture rates are so low with no real way to improve them, there's little incentive to catch everything, they evolve but not in any cool or elaborate way...

They've got neat ideas, but it's just hidden under this layer of minor game design flaws that build up to really bug you. Like, the familiar system on NNK is really neat, but it's like certain things weren't thought through properly.

It's a lovely, beautiful game that really sells you the world. Sometime, I love it and sometimes, the needless grinding for a nice looking new familiar drives me insane. I'll definitely be buying the sequel. For those first few hours, it's very fucking hand holdy, be warned. Sorry for the late reply, went to bed. I'm basically just before where you are (I got right near the end of the game and burnt out, PS3 melted so I lost my original save, started again to gear up for the sequel), I've just gotten the ship again and now I'm milling around trying to catch the fucking manta ray familiar for the girl. Hamelin is when I really started to get bored, it's a slog for sure BUT - and that's a big but - after Hamelin, it gets good. Also there should be a spooky area coming up where you get Girlfiend, one of the coolest ghost familiars for Swaine. There's also a casino there, like proper Dragon Quest-style.
Don't bother holding off metamorphosis. Just don't. Yeah sure, if you level to 99 you get 50% of the stat gains for the evolved form (I'm 90% sure that's right, look it up) but why bother? There's no Demi-Fiend-as-he-appears-in-DDS boss in the game. Just evolve when you learn all your moves, otherwise the game will burn you out to the point where you'll never play it again. Like I said, a good idea (levelling higher grants more stat gains) hindered by poor design (getting to level 99 takes exactly as long as you think it does, why fucking bother).

Honestly, I don't know. Hopefully something more nuanced than just being a boss. I'm worried about final's apparent "all the endings are just forms of neutral" thing that sounds like all the endings will be boring as hell. If anarchy means just kill the gods, and peace means let them live, but tell them not to live on earth, neither of those sound very interesting. They should really revisit mastema's sketchy argument that god is secretly neutral that was vaguely hidden in IV but never expanded on. It would be interesting if he showed up as an actual figure you could kind of side with. Seeing as how last time in II, even on law you couldn't. So "every ending is neutral" now might be hinting that once again you can't.

It was my biggest surprise in the SMT games, to be honest. Since everyone and their dog shat on it and say that P2/P3/P4 is the best, I didn't have much expectations about it. It's probably the best Persona game in terms of gameplay, atmosphere and dungeon design.
