Is Sonic Runners good now? I started playing it again after a few months and it seems like a lot of the worst garbage has been fixed.
I've noticed that it's still got ads, but doesn't let you watch an ad to retry levels. Is this intentional?

Alright, I didn't know if they'd removed that or if it was just bugging out.
And yeah, the missiles are consistently the only thing that feels legit unfair because they come in huge waves that cover the screen.
Still, the fact that they seem to hand out premium roulette spins a lot more often now, and the fact that they no longer limit the characters you can get, is what brought me back.
I just fucking quit back when I missed Rouge last time, so I'm glad to see her available again

The truth is that Silver is pretty OP, not only because he is fast but also because of his psycho powers. He could technically stop Sonic in place and crush him.

Knuckles, Mighty, Big, Bark, Amy's Hammer, Omega all win out for being physically stronger.
Of course, Sonic is all about Dexterity build and in the Sonic Universe that pretty much trumps all. Apart from unexpected attacks, cocky display on Sonic's half or just outfuckingskilled.

Why is Sonic so mellowed out nowadays? It seems like ever since Smith started voicing him, he's been flat as far as characterization, and while I don't think that's Smith's fault entirely, it just feels so bland, both in tone and in dialogue. I miss when we got to see Sonic legitimately mad, depressed, or uncomfortable.

It's unfortunate that Smith has voiced Sonic almost solely in bland, uninspired stories because I believe has the potential to be the best Sonic, excluding Kanemaru, if he was given something to work with. Pretty much all of the stories he's voiced Sonic in have had Sonic almost solely lollygagging around whatever area he's in during dialogue.

Your post pretty much sums up why I love the Deer Sisters so damn much. They're more well rounded and fully realized than the majority of characters in this franchise, and they've appeared in a grand total of around 30 pages. Mad props to Aleah Baker for making them and mad props to Evan for making them look so damn good. It's a neat inverse of the relationship between the Sandblast City FFs and their DEL chapter. Whereas the two were constantly fighting with earnest animosity, the Shamar FFs and Egg Army are only doing it to keep up appearances.

For the first part of your question, I think the point of a Sonic game is not its length, but replayability. Half the fun of Sonic is replaying levels to see/get things you missed the first time around, and I think Colors did it well. Have a bunch of collectibles and alternate paths in the levels so you're encouraged to replay them. The game isn't too short, but it isn't too long. A decent amount of stages are short, so you can replay them often to try and beat your time or just to have fun. Something like Generations is 4 to 6 hours, and yet I'm willing to spend 60 bucks on it because even though it's relatively short, it offers a lot of replay value. As for your 2nd point, a lot of it is nostalgia, but it's also because it's a game that's just a blast. Even if some levels are absolute shit, the presentation is very visually appealing and there's a lot of memorable moments both in game and in cutscenes. It's like a popcorn flick. It's nothing too amazing or "deep", but it's fun as fuck when you're watching/playing it. I recognize it for its flaws, yet it's still in my top 5 favorite Sonic games. It's honestly more memorable than something like Lost World or Colors (Even if the latter is more of a technically solid game)

Shit, I didn't even mention the classic games. Sonic 2, and to a lesser extent, Sonic3&K aren't very long games (Though 3&K is certainly the longest of the trilogy, which is why I replay it less than I replay 2). In fact, 2 can be beaten in around 2 hours. But it's still a damn fine game, since it focuses on being a solid game instead of a long one. That's a design problem that has crippled the series since Heroes (Because I still put SA2 under the experimental phase, and the game is actually pretty damn short). Sonic Team seems to think people will hate the game if it's not long enough. Why do you think you have to play the game 4 times to fully beat it? Why did Shadow have 10 paths? Why did Unleashed have the Werehog and medal collecting? Why did Lost World have all those gimmicks? A large part of that is because "the games would be too short without those gimmicks". Take a look at the runtime for a good portion of those games, and then look at just how much of said runtime is filled by those gimmicks.

I never played Lost World, but I must admit, I seem to be the only person who dislikes Colors without also generally hating Sonic. I feel like Colors just dragged on. Even if the acts were short, it just seemed like there were far too many for each zone. Colors only had one playstyle (the Boost gameplay introduced in Unleashed), but at the same time, the Wisps and the massive focus on 2D over 3D felt especially gimmicky to me, and the lack of an alternative playstyle like the Werehog, Classic Sonic, or SA2 Eggman started to get me to psychologically associate the game dragging on with Modern Sonic. I honestly enjoyed Unleashed more than I did Colors, and the medal hunting just absolutely turned me off of that game (I was generally okay with the Werehog, but I HATED having to go back through levels just to progress in the game). In Colors, I'd have to slog through about 5 acts per zone just to reach the boss. In Unleashed, as long as you get the medals (which, again, I greatly disliked doing), you generally only needed to do one act of Sonic and one act of the Werehog (Eggmanland and the tutorial level excluded).
Generations, in my opinion, did a "short and sweet" modern Sonic game right. Yeah, maybe it could have stood to have been a couple levels longer, and the story could have been given more focus (maybe not up to Adventure levels, but I don't think throwing in a couple action cutscenes set within the returning levels themselves would have killed anybody; then again, I doubt Pontac and Graff could have ever delivered on any of that). But it's still a lot of fun to go back through Speed Highway, Rooftop Run, or Green Hill every now and then (really, I'm willing to replay pretty much any stage except Planet Wisp; like its home game, it's just a fucking slog to me).

Perhaps I was being a little too harsh on the Colors Wisps. It's been ages since I've last touched the game, so i probably thought they were mandatory (or at the very least highly encouraged) to get through some acts.
I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on preferred choice for number of playstyles. Now, don't get me wrong: if Sonic Team can get Sonic's gameplay solid and realize they don't need to worry so much about length, then they can stick with one playstyle (maybe with slight variations to it, like Tails and Knuckles in S3&K, if they think they can handle it, but nothing mandatory and nothing too drastically different). But since Sonic Team seems intent on lengthening the games, I think that limiting it to two playstyles can deliver the length they want it to have while also helping associate the "Sonic" gameplay with high-speed, provided (and this is absolutely vital) that they do not make the distinctive alternate style necessary to progress the "Sonic" gameplay (with the possible exception of a final "Super Sonic" ending like we've seen from Doomsday Zone onward).

Having brought the "slight variations" idea up in the first place, I like both as well. But slight variations takes less effort, less money, and is less easy to fuck up than drastically different gameplay styles. If you've mastered the Sonic gameplay, you don't need to worry as much about Tails or Knuckles if you've got them playing mostly the same. Whereas if you've got something like Gamma or Big, you have to take more time and money out to make them work too.
That said, the slight variations idea doesn't really work in the Boost style very well. Sure, there was Blaze in the Rush games, but being that she's essentially Sonic's alternate dimension counterpart, I'll let that slide. Tails or Knuckles, by contrast, would have to be more drastically changed to work in the Boost style. And as for the Parkour style introduced in Lost World, I don't even know, because like I said before, I haven't played it.

Seeing my previous point, frankly that would be impossible just by the lore. If Shadow lore was a miraculous cure then the problem would be justifying why they don't use it to erradicate most of the world diseases, or why they just attempted to do so because of a named character.

So far, it looks like she was wasting away, which cost her her eyesight and hearing (and she mentions being "sick all the time" and says something about how she hadn't fainted in a while IIRC). So it sounds like the cybernetics were to get her eyesight and hearing back, and the "treatment" (the IV?) just boosts her along enough to keep her going. Meanwhile, Eggman told them both that the "treatment" was just a temporary thing to help her body get used to the robotics so they probably thought they were off scott free at first.
