You answered your own question, buddo. Built from the ground up in a coding language that isn't absolute fucking shit for what Minecraft wants to do. When/if MC-W10 gets mod support (if M$ and Mojew will even allow that to happen) it will almost certainly become the definitive version as people backport features from vanilla and rework popular mods to work in the new engine. Performance goes through the roof, no more dropping 30fps the second you load up any mods even on a NASA supercomputer. It will be heaven.

being courteous is not the same as being a beta bitch. allowing machines to use watering cans imo is a pointless debate, but the majority of players and developers seem to see it as gamebreaking. the players who want to use their cans in machines can switch the option in the config file, and ted can do his thing. (you can't see the particle effects but it is growing the crops at a much faster rate)

if it's really a dependency, exutil should just stop the game from starting up if it doesn't detect FMP. even if you add FMP and later take it out, it'll happily start up without any complaints

The DepLoader call is pretty easy to notice, so you should have no problems finding out when a mod is trying to install something without telling you about it. If FMP is still getting downloaded after you delete it from your pack, it's probably because something else needs it.
My own pack has ExtraUtils but it has never download FMP on its own, I can see that there's no such file in that "1.7.10" folder.

For designs, you can choose from dome, onion dome, pyramid, cone, spire, erect penis, etc...

For the actual construction, start with a skeleton that goes from the top point of the roof to the edges of the structure along the eight cardinal directions, and then go around in a circle filling in the sides.

The effortless ring by itself allows a bit of bunnyhopping. It's normal run speed is ~8 blocks a second, but if you hop, you get 10 blocks a second

I'd personally reccomend trying thaumcraft if anything, it's very user friendly and has a comprehensive ingame guide.

I say start off small and pick mods you think would add value to your regular game. Most mods require Forge, but it's simple to install these days. then it's just a matter of dragging and dropping .jars to your mods folder.

I have diesel generators that run on fuel and produce a ton of power, and I have windmills and thermal generators that produce a little power but don't cost anything to run. Modders are treating 1.8.8 as a preparation/testbed for things - an official multipart API in Forge (that's not FMP), a transactional inventory interface for mods, a proxying system for TileEntities which does not require you to implement an API on a TE directly, a new rendering system (rewriting Mojang's own) by Rainwarrior, etc.

I decided to give BuildCraft to someone who's going to maintain it in an iterative manner, that is AlexIIL. I also wrote a Google Docs (public on the BC issue tracker) which outlines all the ideas I wanted to include in BuildCraft 8 for future developers.

Then, I've moved on to working an entirely new mod called Charset.

Nothing. 1.8 had a lot of flaws, but Rainwarrior spent a lot of time rewriting rendering to fix those - porting to 1.8.8 fixed vanilla issues, and now cpw, amadornes, mezz, I and a few other modders are trying to improve 1.8.8 Forge further - I listed the planned features before.

- ISmartBlockModels are actually easier to code for than ISBRHs now, given a bit of boilerplate
- Improved threading (separate network thread, separate world threads - this will cause bugs at first in mods which port, but ultimately improve performance)

- JSON models might not be the greatest, but Forge improves them (to the point I like working with them) and adds support for OBJ models without slow dynamic rendering - this means mods with complex models have a change of getting faster, and no need to hardcode static models means a lot more artists might have a go at making decorative mods (10paktimbits's DecorativeMegaPack is a nice example).
- Generics in the Minecraft codebase! This makes working with the code somewhat nicer for modders.

Rice as a crop to be farmed in shallow water, mutton as a sheep drop, calamari as a squid drop.

Combined with vanilla resources, these commonly used ingredients (especially rice) should allow enough freedom for thousands of derivative recipes without a bazillion types of fruit and veggies. Even more if you can use wheat to produce pasta.
