>finally getting into DCS
>only full-simulation aircraft I have is the Meme-21bis and Su-25T included in basegame
>have FC3 but nothing in that is full-autism

How much do you guys think shit will be on sale for in a week or so? Wasn't everything -70% last x-mas? I want that A-10C. Maybe the Czech trainer shitpile too.

Also, I've tried running the 1.5beta and shit just crashes every time I try to load any mission that isn't one of the "training" ones. Have tried refuckulating my graphics settings all the way down to low, didn't help, so now I'm back on the default Steam version.

Finally, does anyone know how to get this piece of shit engine to interact nicely with Steam? never shows me as ingame and I have no overlay, game launches just fine in its own window that Steam doesn't want to talk to. Have tried searching both Steam and DCS/ED forums but no one knows shit.

>>

Which means it's objectively a better gun platform than most actual tanks even close to that price range.
>>

>ADATS now 70% accuracy.
>Range against helicopters 3325m
For 10 points more, you'll get a Tunguska-M missile that can destroy tanks with a higher accuracy than any PACT ground vehicle.
>>
LNS said that the Viggen is almost done, right?

Fuck me I'm so hype

Full fidelity modern multirole with a2g radar
>>
>>124693336
You also lose the gun that demolishes planes without playing RNG games, and ADATS missiles cost a lot more to resupply. As an AA piece the tunguska is still superior.
>>
>>124693741
It seems like a lot of shit is pretty close to completion, I would imagine after 2.0 comes out we'll have a steady stream of new aircraft coming out each month if ED makes the devs space out the releases to be 1 a month or something.

F-18 should be pretty close to complete, F-14 early next year, bunch of WW2 planes, Viggen, Gazelle, eurofighter which will probably be garbage because VEAO, etc...
>>
>>124694191
Hey did you know that if you aren't a shitter you have a SEAD plane behind what ever other plane you bring out.

Wow with this info you'll probably improve your gameplay by like 40%.
You're welcome btw.

Official estimate is second half of next year. They said in the September update that they're focusing more on the other two modules.

I was under the impression the F-14A model would be early next year with the A+ and B coming later, either way, we're getting a lot of content in the new year probably.

Their internal beta is scheduled for early next year afaik, not the final product. That would be insane. LN announced the tomcat long before it was near completion just because of the hardon it gives people as a one off.

Ah okay, I must have misread that at some point. I just hope that LN and ED are able to make carrier ops more realistic with pitching decks and whatnot. It'll be pretty important for the F-18 module too.

Stop using DCS on Steam. There is literally no benefit, only additional headaches. The reason nobody cares is because nobody who has been using DCS for a long time has it on Steam. They either started standalone, or moved to standalone from Steam.

source: I ran standalone, moved to Steam for a short time, no benefits, only drawbacks, went back to standalone.

F-18 is nowhere near finished and F-14 is not going to be early next year. F-14 will be middle of next year in the best possible unrealistically optimistic case. More than likely it'll be either the end of next year or early 2017.

Viggen and Corsair seem possible for early next year.
>>
>>124699101
LNS is probably making their own radar model again, just like they did for the MiG-21's radar and its RSBN. There is no DCS level radar, so LNS made a custom radar model using just basic engine hooks. The RSBN system was introduced after MiG-21 by ED with the L-39, but the MiG-21 needed one so they just made their own RSBN system.

Same is probably happening for their air to ground radar. They'll make their own radar model and then ED will release F-18 in 6 years with the "canon" DCS air-air/air-ground full fidelity radar model.

Sales only go one way. Standalone can buy and use keys from the Steam store and DCS store, but Steam can't use keys from the DCS store.

First weekend of hostilities went pretty well for some and not so well for others. Congratulations to Stream Snipers and Filthy Casuals who are now in Round 2 (which doesn't start till the 21st).

We currently have 17 teams but there is still room for more. No new teams will be accepted after the 21st, so if you want in then sign up!

For anyone already in the tourney, make sure you are posting in the matchmaking thread so that you can get your matches played before it is too late.

What are the drawbacks other than Steam apparently not being able to interface with the game at all? I'd originally tried this as standalone a couple years ago but never did much and eventually uninstalled, bought FC3 and the MiG-21 through steam during the sale for Thanksgiving.

Finally, I see that the Mirage 2000C's going into beta for the people that pre-ordered it this month. That means it'll be out very early next year, right?

Otherwise the leaked stuff looks pretty interesting, just waiting on them to come out's going to be an issue, Guess I can make it to early 2017 at the latest before seeing those Tomcats (speaking of which, which F-14 are we getting? A? D?) and Super Hornets.
>>
>>124739730
Steam has the benefit of having download servers that don't run on dial-up, it's not as bad as some people say compared to standalone, there really is very little difference.

F-14 will be the A, A+, and B variants
We will never get a super bug, just the regular bug

With Steam, you now have 2 layers of DRM over your game and I hate having to put up with Starforce by itself. It's just added headaches. The other is that I don't trust Steam to manage anything that is often modded.

On top of that, there's the sales thing where you can't buy things from the DCS store and use them on Steam anymore. That used to be a thing, but not anymore. Maybe it's changed again based on what some anon said earlier, and if they did that's news to me.

Standalone also gets stuff earlier and access to betas and alphas. Often, servers will use beta versions of patches, and to my knowledge you can't use those on Steam. In terms of modules, MiG-21 for example was available for like a month on standalone before it was released on Steam. It was cheaper on the DCS store as well. If you want a more recent example, the 2.0 alpha (NTTR) is unplayable on Steam.

I also don't trust the Steam version of DCS to work correctly because ED doesn't care about Steam.

That ED even made 1.5 available at all on Steam is unusual and not the norm.

There are only 2 positives I can think of to ever running DCS on Steam.

1. You have a hard on for Steam tracking your hours. If you want Steam chat and whatever you can do whatever it is that people do that.
2. When a patch gets pushed to live, Steam will update faster because the DCS Updater is slow. Honestly though, until the 2.0 alpha and its 30GB downloads, I've never had any problems with the DCS Updater and found it to be very reliable and do everything that Steam would do, but with more control and safer.
>>
A new patch, a new nerf for China.
>>
>>124741062

>>
>>124740847
Add browsing while playing to the Steam list (although the Steam browser is shit) since the standalone game hangs itself if you alt-tab out for too long.
>>
>>124741825
I just play the game in fullscreen window and alt-tab like a madman. Even when I do play in true fullscreen (I swap back and forth between the two very often depending on what I'm doing) I haven't had much problem with alt-tabbing.
>>
>>124740847
>If you want Steam chat and whatever you can do whatever it is that people do that.

Pretty much just this, it's getting annoying having to pause and alt-tab every time some fucking sperg messages me. Otherwise it'd be a non-issue, will start looking around for that fix.

Going to work on getting my Steam keys tied to my ED account finally and probably just run the standalone, but still going to avoid the beta updates for a while. Looks like the issue I'm having is in both 1.5 and 2.0 betas. May just be a graphics driver thing, I haven't updated my Catalyst bullshit in a month.

Also probably going to pre-order that Mirage while it's only $48..

>>124740847

Apparently it's a prop for the upcoming movie "Spectral". It's being shot in Hungary, so they're just working with what's available (MiG-21s and MiG-23s).
>>
>>124742963
To me it's the same as clicking Play on a game in Steam, which launches another launcher like UPlay or Origin, and then launches the game from there.

It's another layer that doesn't need to be there.
>>
>>124742963
A decent number of games require you to be logged into steam to play them, practically all of them are steamworks. Since they unfucked the offline mode awhile back this isn't a major issue, like the guy you replied to i'd rather have it not exist.
>>
There is going to be a discussion spanning multiple threads if steam is drm

It obviously is, fucktard
>>
>>124743196
You don't have to have steam running for a huge majority of games. It simply uses Steam to download and version-check. You can download it, delete steam, and still play your game.

Bored burger here.

Would LOSAT be balanceable?

It goes without saying that the existing ATGM vehicles for US are abysmal. (Vehicles, not NOD stealth tanks.)

An 80 kg missile is pretty enormous. 1500 m/s is pretty fast. So it's an AP round that weighs as much as an American teenager. It's lighter successor, the CKEM, killed an ERA-equipped T-72 in a (doubtless scripted) 2007 test.

Obviously it can't have its full 5km+ range, but would a KE-type and -speed doom-ATGM be too inherently unbalanced, even on the god-awful humvee chassis?

Range scaling is used in wargame to keep things manageable. 5km range IRL results in 2800m ingame (see the soviet Kokon series, and take note the 8km hellfire is also 2800m, putting the Kokon and LOSAT at the low end of the 2800m bracket). I really dont know enough to say whether 25 (TOW-2), 26 (Hellfire, HJ-9, Maverick B) or 28AP (Kh-23M, Kh-25ML, Kh-66, all fixed wing exclusives) would be appropriate, but I think 30AP, which requires an explosive warhead that outmasses the entire LOSAT missile by quite alot, would be too much.

Make it 75pt or 80 if the speed is really high, maybe go to 85 or 90 if you want to give it 28AP.

What missile has 30 AP, out of curiosity?

>Make it 75pt or 80 if the speed is really high, maybe go to 85 or 90 if you want to give it 28AP.

28 KE AP would probably be worth the extremely dubious HMMV chassis and the 4 missile ammo capacity, assuming decent accuracy. Assuming semi-genuine speeds, flight time is ~2 seconds at max range.

28 HE makes it impractically expensive. Paying +30 points for 3 AP and some flight time over the Tow-2 HMMV doesn't exactly give me a raging freedom boner.
>>
>>124753320
The Kh-29 (both D and T), the AS30L, AJ 168 and later model Mavericks (E, F and G).

Why on earth would you give it a 4 missile capacity, even the Humvee with the TOW-2 has 8. Only IFVs and obsolete ATGMs with budget price tags and a literal jeep mounting tend to get 4 shots.

You need to look at the Shturm-S and WZ-550 for pricing, the 2625m-2800m range jump is very expensive for ATGMs.

I was also assuming a 70% accuracy and somehow failed to mention that, you could easily drive its cost down by reducing that, but that really doesn't seem all that authentic.

Hey, Wgg. What are the biggest factors that make Wargame so defensively favored? Are these ideas anywhere in the right neighborhood?

1. Smoke is sluggish and difficult to use. Artillery has too little effect against entrenched Infantry if it doesn't actually kill the entire squad.
1a. I think that this might be helped by adding status effects to inf, same as Vehicles. E.g. Sergeant Killed. Rocket Launcher Lost.
2. Indestructible terrain. See that bamboo shack? It's an invisibility cloak/bunker forever, even if burned to the ground. Forests are less guilty of this, but only marginally.
3. Absolutely insane Optics system. This, along with 2, is what makes tanks and helicopters relatively ineffective if not spammed. It's nearly impossible to fire back against ATGM or ADN (missile) even with grotesquely indiscriminate weapons like 100+mm rockets.
3a. This is particularly bad with forests edge/town ATGMs. Firing guided ATGMs directly at the front of a T-90/Abrams is an excellent way to get killed. The several seconds that your missile takes to reach your target is plent of time for a tank (with modern optics, who is directly facing you) to figure out roughly where you are and blast you.

What am I missing?

dumb balance and pricing that favours tactics where nearly none of your units are expendable, and those that are, are worthless performance wise.

Artillery that is so weak it can't be used offensively, but strong enough to destroy single units vital for offence.

No call in timers for planes so they are always a get out of jail free card if people advance 5cm beyond AA net.

Maps full of choke points.

And worst of all, a sighting system that gives you no ability to see if an area has been checked for units, and invisible people standing in fields because they have stealth emitters.

NAME A BETTER ANTI-HELO SAM THAN THE ADATS!

protip: You can't because you can't see any other anti-helo SAMs because all of your recon helos are dead.

Imo everything could be fixed if instead of the retarded camouflage system we had now the "stealth" of your units progressively degraded as long as they were within line of sight of an enemy unit.

Higher optics and numbers being present would cause "stealth" to degrade faster.

This means you wouldn't be able to get away with static defenses, sit in the enemy's LOS long enough and they'll fucking see you.

4. Tanks mysteriously lack even the most basic of counter measures from WW2 like smoke launchers because 'waahh, micro'.
5. Defense doesn't really have to do anything once their shit is in place. It's very hands off.
6. Game limits the amount of units you can field, which automatically favors defense.
7.Recon units are dogshit and often miss shit that you should easily be able to see.
8.Everything about infantry is just incredibly slapped together and lazy. It's just utterly fucked from multiple angles.
9. SEAD is useless against anyone that isn't totally asleep at the wheel.
10.Artillery is ass compared to EE. Little means of making people move from entrenched positions unless you use very specific units from certain nations.
11.Slow game pacing lets any retard casually react to your maneuvers with panic-buys or planes.

mite b cool

It would need to work both ways, though; an OH-58 flying by at max speed shouldn't be able to spot a sniper team that's sitting still in the middle of a forest and not shooting.

Hence why I stopped playing. Eugene ruined any chance for Wargame being enjoyable with ALB and it's just been dieing a slow death to casualitis cancer since. Team matches are never balanced, and if you're not with friends, you can't even communicate effectively, making the point of a team entirely moot. There's just no purpose to team games in an RTS besides people wanting to hide how bad they are by blending in with a crowd and hopefully getting carried or at least having others to blame.

>1. I disagree. The dispersion is generally shit though, you can spot and mortar/blast a light vehicle only to have it be scared shitless without a scratch on it.

Thanks.

Speaking of micro. It's funny that even the micro hell that is MOW2AS has artillery (mortars, technically) auto-fire at visible enemies. Only the equivalent of MLRS (Howitzers) require manual fire.

>>124774998
>>124775234

Might be cool indeed. If only these things were easily moddible. It'd be cool to try these out.
>>
>>124776296
But the point in 3a is that it's not really necessary to do either, defensively.

ATGM inf/vehicles in cover are literally invincible against non-position Fire until after they've gotten several volleys off. Let that sink in. They can't be killed because invisibility = invincibility against direct fire in WG. This is silly.

>ATGM inf/vehicles in cover are literally invincible against non-position Fire until after they've gotten several volleys off

Really? All of my shit becomes visible once it starts firing, especially if recon is anywhere nearby.
>>
>>124777007
for me recon ATGM vehicles and ATGM infantry stay stealthed while ATGMs in the vehicle tab always get spotted
>>
>>124776296
>>8. how so?
Not same anon.
But Infantry has no way in forests or fields to protect themselves from HE (Foxholes/hasties are a common thing for infantry to know how to do) They stay tightly clustered even in blocks of buildings, Ratjer then spreading out to be an effective unit.
Buildings hold a single inf group no matter how large, a single building can fit fourty people if they are all in a single unit.
INF is not smart enough to wait for AT to be effective before firing it (Most militaries train this so they don't need to be baby sat.)
Probably more stuff too, but really with the scale war game tries to portray units over all need to beable to make basic decisions, like, My weapon has a 2000km range, we have 6 shots for it, we can't pen the armor on that tank unless we are lucky, and our accuracy drops off at that range anyways, let's shoot all the shots!
You shouldn't need that level of micro on units when you are normally having multiple fronts and multiple units.
>>
>>124777090
Huh. I'll have to experiment with that.
>>
>>124777007
Try approaching a town with ATGM inf in it with low-high Optics vehicles at full speed. You will take multiple shots before the spotting system lets you shoot back.

As for vehicles, just try attacking a position with NOD Stealth Tanks. Uh. I mean Scout Bradleys.

Anyway. I'm going to sleep. I'll come back tomorrow after playing buffed CW and complain about the fact that it isn't USSR.

I kek'd

IRL Bradleys are not the least bit stealthy.
>>
>>124777581
Neither are Chinese recon tanks, but stealth is an attribute that eugen decided all recon vehicles should have

MoW actually does handle quite a bit automatically if you let it. Sometimes not very well, but it at least tries. In fact, the higher in level of play you go, the more important it becomes to 'partition' your micro and not sit around trying to micromanage every little thing, but rather, find a balance between what to delegate to the AI, and what you should bother directly controlling. Sometimes it's actually fairly advantagous to select a group of infantry and spam F1 to chuck a mass of grenades, rather than direct controlling one guy to crawl up and throw a single cooked one. particularly when attempting a 'shock' type of attack.
>>
Osa gets the emergency optical mode, but Roland2 doesn't get the optical normal mode.

Madmat told us 100 times Roland2 can't have it, because it's an emergency mode(which is bs) and other AA units like OSA have such an mode, too. Eugen keeps on braking their own rules: Roland2, PzF3, Eurofighter, Mi24V, APILAS, Patriot, PzH2000, S300

It made a unit never take (base OSA) an actual consideration now.

I'm amazed the US didn't turn its crash site into a crater with another bombing.

>>124777186
They do get a -40% damage in forest and -70% in buildings. Also close range AT weapons have about a 1.5x multiplier on their AP power over what the rockets could reasonably penetrate, compared with cannons or ATGMs. This is to simulate that the infantry really did hold fire until the AT was effective, they fired at a weak points instead of directly into the gladis plate, ect.

None of this is a great replacement for a proper infantry entrenching system and a more intelligent infantry AI, but its not as though Eugen hasn't at least considered the problem.
