>exactly the same gameplay and mechanics

fuck no, the lore is great, but the mechanics are still basically civ 2, which isn't that great

rehashing the same story would have been trite too

what was really needed was the same level of writing for an original story, and to utilize the more interesting mechanics like fungus, unit customization, and random research, and bringing the gameplay up to a higher standard than civ 5

what we got was no writing, no interesting mechanics, and gameplay that is somehow worse than civ 5

they had some decent ideas, like miasma, satellites, outposts instead of city states and such, and different planet types, but none of it comes together to make a good game

I was the first to ideology, got freedom, forced world ideology: freedom on everyone (bartered for votes) while Brazil adopted Order a few turns out from the vote. Since Brazil was a chronic backstabber (he backstabbed 3 of 7 civs), everyone hated him and I went and conquered a couple of his cities and his capital with no negative diplomatic effects except from Indonesia who is a little concerned about my warmongering. Got a bunch of wonders out of Rio and then made a favorable peace deal. Currently razing a shitty city, but my happiness will be fine after that.

I have a chronic problem of assuming that people are constantly being ironic on 4chan, even when they're not. So my question is this: do people really dislike Beyond Earth for having mostly women and non-white leaders?

I don't generally see accusing Firaxis (or any game developer) of being SJWs as a legitimate criticism, but I do agree that the implementation of their social agenda was very sloppy. But the criticism I've seen is much more vitriolic than sloppy implementation alone would cause.

>>
>>124235803
>>124236765
People mostly dislike it for being a bad game, but there were people in the thread who, when BE first came out, seemed very angry that they couldn't easily identify a white male to play as. I think it became more of an ironic criticism as time went on, but I can't help wondering if some people were truly as angry as they seemed. Maybe it was just a few people who were loudly shitposting.
>>
>>124237069
Maybe you are just a triggered SJW faggot.
>>
>>124237435
That's probably it, thanks for clearing that up.
>>
>>124237069
It was probably just people finding some easily spammable thing to complain about and running away with it.
>>
>>124239927
But the thing is that Firaxis' decisions about who the leaders are and their backstories are guaranteed to be political, even if they aren't centered around feminism, etc. Having a set of leaders that was half white males would have been an equally political decision. The difference is that the "SJW" ideology is a movement that is actively trying to change things, so you notice it more.
>>
Is there any way to have an army of only a hero in endless legend?
>>
>>124241672
If the hero is with a settler and the settler settles, the hero will be left by himself. I'm not sure if it's possible any other way, but some people use it to have 3 scouting units a the start
>>
>>124241409
>actively trying to change things
>mudslims are still wrecking each other, just like in medieval times
They have their logic ass-backwards, culture is a byproduct of people's activity. You can't just shove females in some games and then people suddenly changing.
Propaganda is close to this, but it operates on the most basic instincts, so usage of it is limited.
>>124241672
Leave him with a unit and sell it afterwards.
or
In the academy there is an option for a hero to spawn as an army of him alone.
>>
>>124242370
>Middle East was relatively stable and peaceful until Europe intentionally destabilized and destroyed the Ottoman Empire
>fucking mudslimes
Anyway, I disagree. Video games are a part of culture, so they are both a product of culture and a driver of culture (both for status quo and against). By including women and non-whites as leaders on equal footing with white males, Firaxis is trying to show that these groups are equal and that culture can and will change in unpredictable ways, perhaps including the dismantling of patriarchy. As a side point, if it doesn't change culture, why do you care?
Also, is Firaxis actively trying to change culture? Are there any interviews saying that (because I would actually like to read those)?

I probably have that problem too because I always figured all the waifu posting and racism was ironic. And then it continued. For years. And years. Until only waifu loving nazis remained.

And I can't answer for everyone else, but I didn't give a shit about BE's leaders apart from the fact that they're all dull as hell. They may all be pansexual furry otherkin women but when they have less personality and character than goddamn Civ 5 talking heads then they've got a problem. Apparently the expansion helps with this with space-Twitter but I didn't buy the expansion since the base game sucked so hard.
>>
>>124235680
Every civ including AC has been diverse. It was never a problem. The problem is the tone has shifted significantly from a celebration of global diversity to an anti-white-male agenda. Just look how the only white male in BE is a warmonger. Whereas in AC you had the white male be a scientist and a white female be a christfag.

This is a criticism I can agree with. SMAC definitely had a diverse cast which was pretty non-judgmental in terms of culture. From what BE lore I've seen, it definitely is more anti-establishment than pro-diversity. But maybe that's a natural outcropping of identity politics.

Thank you for being civil.

Decided to try Japan Continents, all alone on my small continent except for Venice so it's no great leap of imagination to imagine what I did next. Had a shaky start with some gpt problems since I decided to go for Honor because too bad here bomb fuck you. Luckily for me Venice proceeded to spam the majority of Ancient - Medieval wonders, and had a whole two units to stop me with. It's kind of funny yet embarassing because I felt like an AI playing against a younger version of myself, before I learned how poor a strategy it was.

Now Poland wants my clay and I was worried until I realized I have the most delicious chokepoint to stop him dead in his tracks, although enough units might wear down my samurai to the point where it could become a problem.

Is early cheese against the AI the only way to go on hard and above in EL? I'm almost always spawned a single region away from another faction, and I find that a quick war followed by a truce after grabbing a few of their cities ends with them giving over all their tech and resources. I know it feels cheesy, but this is the only strat I can pull off reliably regardless of whomever I'm playing.
>>
So, when you play as Broken Lords, at start you split all your units to reveal more area, select place with best Dust(Dust+approval?) and settle there. Continue to search other regions for strategic + luxury while studying this tech, start stalwart in city and bring back your troops so their arrive for 3rd stalwart for Faction Quest at the same time put your Hero into City. Then when tech will be ready find good region and settle there, while adding population to your city. Am i right? Or how i supposed to play? I prefer Tall over Wide, but i feel like playing with Tall as Broken Lords is weak way.
>>
>>124265389
On Endless difficulty I actually find it easier to play economically and peacefully for a while with 4-5 cities and then declare war, so early cheese is definitely not mandatory.
>>
>>124265778
broken lord population cost goes up based on
1. how many workers are in the city you are building one in
2. how many workers are in your entire empire
they favor wide, because 1 raises the cost far more than 2 does BUT every single city you steal from others raises the cost of 2 for your empire

im not saying you cant play tall, but for them it is definitely worse
its like playing tall necrophage

I was trying out a game of Endless Legend when one of the Factions I befriended suddenly died, and when I went there to check what happened and get revenge, the region was neutral, as if there were never a faction there to begin with. Then i just do second squad and go explore.

Except it's still worse in those regards compared to other options. The Sisters hero grants influence and approval and that's pretty much it.

it's just odd that they're "down in the market with the mercenaries."
>>
>>124289673

>you can certainly get heroes of your own race and such

Sure, but unless I'm mistaken, there's no incentive/driving force to do so. It seems like heroes are supposed to stylistically be the face and personality in your empire, so it's kind of jarring that more often than not, you end up with your starting hero plus a bunch of random schlubs from other races. Having limited hero access outside of your race would have given the races more unique flare, and it would have made out-of-race heroes more special in a campaign instead of all heroes basically being specialized mercenaries.

I just played civ V and what the fuck is wrong with this game.
-warmonging is now shit
-cottages don't level up, how are "tall" cities even supposed to work
-no more slavery
-units don't consume food when built, can't spec cities into food
-no spies
-no religions
-the irrigation system has been replaced with bullshit
-roads are now useless and expensive
-no options to not build railroads after discovering them
-all non-city states neighbours are cunts
-no more animations when you build wonders
-custom music for each civ but it all sounds bad
-units randomly stop working
-this is made even worse by the fact that you can't pass your turn if not every single things in your huge ass empire has been taken care of
-shit buildings from antiquity aren't made obsolete
-can't access the world-builder

You wot?
>-units randomly stop working

>-this is made even worse by the fact that you can't pass your turn if not every single things in your huge ass empire has been taken care of
This is a good thing, because managing a huge ass empire, knowing the unit selection randomly skips some cities/units, thus forcing to check them manually with the help of the shitty interface with endless scrolling everywhere, is hella more annoying.
>All of this was working perfectly in Civ 4
Religion wasn't perfectly working in civ4.
>>124293862
Spies weren't present in the base civ4 either.
>>
>>124293290
>-warmonging is now shit
Tactically? Diplomatically? In the base game (even with DLCs), the AI can't move and shoot with ranged units. There are mods that fix that, but seriously Firaxis?
>-cottages don't level up, how are "tall" cities even supposed to work
Tall cities work by stacking % bonuses
>-no more slavery
Slavery is evil, anon!
I agree that civics were a better mechanic than social policies.
>-units don't consume food when built, can't spec cities into food
Kek
>-no spies
DLC: Brave New World (wasn't in base game civ 4 anyway, but eh)
>-no religions
DLC: Gods & Kings
>-the irrigation system has been replaced with bullshit
This made me laugh. Yup, there is no irrigation system across tiles anymore, just deal with it. Cities without a lot of fresh water tiles can't grow for shit until Fertilizer (though I think this has some merit to it).
>-roads are now useless and expensive
Well, not useless, but you can't spam them. You can only justify building them to connect cities for gold (once your capital and the destination cities reach certain sizes).
>-no options to not build railroads after discovering them
There actually is, but the "build road to" command defaults to highest tech. Maybe you can't build normal roads in base game, I don't remember.
>-all non-city states neighbours are cunts
Kek
>-no more animations when you build wonders
This really did give some nice atmosphere to building wonders and made them feel like more than just bonuses to things.
>-custom music for each civ but it all sounds bad
Pure opinion
>-units randomly stop working
This is the absolute most annoying problem with Firaxis' implementation of 1UPT. If a unit is set to go somewhere but something else ends its turn in that tile, you have to give your unit new orders. It would be much better if your unit continued trying to get its destination and would only "stop" when it was right next to its destination tile.

I'd say it's broken on higher difficulties. You're basically forced to go to war with the culturally powerful civs and just subjugate them. I think there's a mod which in part allows great musicians to enter rival territory without open borders, but I'm not sure which one.

I sincerely hope you're playing endless speed anon.

As Clans try to snipe the legendary deeds that give 50% trade route bonus and 100% dust on happy city. Also try to complete your faction quest, the final unique tech you get is fucking fantastic.

Who are Dark Green? If you can befriend them then settle either Balther or Is'ryn to connect your empires together. If you need to, trade them the imperial highways tech in exchange for something else you need, just to make sure they build roads.
>>

>>
>>124300773
Build up some garrisons as a deterrent, other empires will notice you growing too big and try to take you out if they think they can.

If you want to you can circumvent your inability to declare war on people with privateers. If you go this route make sure to research stockpile tech, it'll make the stockpiles your privateers get you from razing cities more powerful.

I usually make one industry city, maybe one or two science ones and the rest dust. I get my industrial city to produce either troops or food stockpiles that I can use to grow all my cities taller quicker.

If an empire refuses to be peaceful with you grab some clans heroes from the market and place them as governors. Their high-level skill will allow their cities to trade with asshole empires.

I think it would be a good idea to have a civ game with customizable 3D leaderheads. You could customize their personality and have them interact with other leaders in a Sims-like fashion.

You could even get rid of player input in diplomacy entirely, and have your nation at war with half the world because your ruler flipped a desk at a summit, or suddenly become a vassal of France because your queen couldn't keep her legs shut.

just glance at their passives and you'll get a feel for it
the two passives they get all can be replaced with gear, but if they have two for army/city to start with, they're already a little bit better

and the skills are race/class specific, so you just need to look at the combos while playing, and get a feel for them

for example, say you want industry
necros, roving clan, cultists and wild walkers are the only RACES that deal with industry
which only gives you options of infantry and ranged govenors for industry
both of which is piss, but they both get an accessory slot, so unit type is not important

since wild walkers have the best race/class combo for industry, then you just look at their heroes
Wayra Sigo has industry boost 3 AND food boost 2, so far and wide, he is the best hero if you want industry
but there are other good choices, just not as good
but all the boosts can be replaced with gear, so any elf hero can be "good" at industry, just not as good at him

tl:dr, look at race/class combos to see what is best for what you want, then just pick one of that factions heroes

Lower fortification to zero. Siege city. Next turn all enemy units will be at half health. Otherwise lower morale, which depending on level is a 15-45% penalty to attack and defense (maybe up to 60? I don't remember)

Steal vision to find out where the capital is and take it, for a potentially instant victory (if you have all other capitals, or you take more than one in quick succession)

Depends on the stage of the game, but you end up having more than enough dust to get both governers and spies. If you have to choose then spies are fine as long as you have a plan to actually make use of them.

Maybe they sell food to other nations/ use it for minor factions. It could be farms for plant material like hemp as well.
It's probably just an oversight though.
>>
>>124348119

I could buy the selling food theory if they got something out of food tiles. Like a quarter unit of dust per unit of food or something, but no.

I like to run him around to get a level or two, then drop him into the city. Cultist heroes make for some of the best governors in the game so you definitely want him in there soon though.

What is the worst thing that happened in your most recent 4x game?
>>
>>124352849
partner not being able to play
>>
>>124352849
multiplayer game with friends, I didn't know who to play so they said Rome. I didn't initially want to pick Rome because of you know why but they convinced me.

Surrounded by jungle, only piece of iron is 12 spaces from my capital, on the other side of a mountain range, right next to Shaka.

I tried to power through it for them but once the Impis came I just couldn't keep playing.

How does Vaulter holy resource work?
>>
>>124359198
you consume strategic resource, just like a luxury, then it gives you a % boost to one or more FIDSI resources

each unit that uses gear of that resource gets extra stats for it, but accessories dont get the bonus (i believe) since they give a skill, not a numerical stat

at the end of the "luxury" you lose the fidsi bonus, but keep the stat bonus to your units, untill you use another holy resource

the winter part is pretty self explanatory
>>
>>124359198
you can (and should) use strategic resources for boosters just like luxuries. Whichever booster you used last is deemed your holy resource and many of the vaulter exclusive buildings require it to be built, and your units get a 50% bonus to whatever stats their equipment give if it's made from the same resource.

>All my worlds are covered in jungle and forest

>Takes fucking ages to wage war, units literally become obsolete by the time they arrive to cities to attack
This world gen has to be trying to trigger me at this point.
>>
I wish the main quests wouldn't tell you to conquer specific cities. I'm already not too keen on being told by the game to warmonger, but being told specifically who and where to attack is ridiculous.
>>
>>124362415
wild walkers quest is the only one that doesn't require a conquer i believe

personally, i wish there were more hero variety in each species
since theres no horse dudes, and literally 1 flyer useable 1 week a year
whats to say necrophage dont get infantry and calvary hero options

you only really need to care if you're going for a quest victory anyway

Are you sure the other one built Ways of Trade or whatever its called in their cities?
>>
>>124376394
I know he didn't and I didn't know that was a requirement.
>>
>>124376436
It is. You can just trade with yourself tho.
Except if you're playing based Cultists
>>
>>124376507
Oh so I need to build one of those road buildings in each city to get a trade route? I thought it was enough to have just one connection. Is it okay if cities the route passes through is only connected by other cities? Or must all cities along the route have a road or dock?
