There's an elephant monster that will stay in your barn after you meet it on whale island. It triggers an event with one of the villagers during the summer. If you don't see this event they'll leave town after the season is over and return next year.

I don't know what weapon type is best, but I am really fond of spears because of their range and quick attack speed. In general though, I just use whatever the strongest weapon I can craft is.
Reaper Slash is my favorite special attack though, it's for spears and a wide slashing attack that covers a huge area around you and does very high singular damage. Since you can use any special move on any weapon, that attack is always bound to my Y button. It's so useful, and for weapons with short range it makes up for a lot of it because it has such an extended reach.

Turnips aren't really pricey anyway. Giant pink melons and giant strawberries have multiple harvests (indefinite if you keep soil quality good by hoe-ing corn or dead grass into the tile and compost level above 0) -- and can be sold for much more each.

I will eventually, I heard that farming in oceans is non existent, though I do not care, as long as combat and other game mechanics are okey.
Though the reason I picked Rune Factory 4 over Oceans and Frontier was because it was the latest one (even though I enjoyed Frontier much more) gotta keep up with the general m8 to not forget portable is convenient and easier to pick up.

Dunno, I like ARPGs but turn-based will always be my favorite type of RPGs. I agree on the dialogue part though. RF is light years better than everything I've seen. Even o HM games.

Yeah, the dialog in RF is far more than the original Final Fantasy, for example. In HM games, all they mostly talk about is farming tutorial stuff and the same handful of lines a day -- or at least from what I've seen. And there's still no spoken dialog.

You could argue that the focus is supposed to be farming, but it's not just about a farm, it's about settling into a community that isn't a bunch of robots.

Look, just play it and figure out what you like, because it's all subjective. Some people would say RF4 is Harvest Moon but worse. Where one person craves RPG elements, another just wants plain old farm life and vice versa. I like both equally because they excel at different things.
