I try to see the skill and effort a player put in. The thing is that without some normal gameplay to contrast the skillful play it's hard to judge. I guess that's why I'll be focusing on making something that is enjoyable to watch instead of showing off my "skill"

It's a good question, but taking VST seriously is a bit dumb. It's totally subjective, and most people will want to vote for shit that moves in flashy ways, no matter how easy that might be to pull off. I'm kind of annoyed by the excessive focus on air combat and a player that moves around 3 times as fast as any enemy. As long as the enemy doesn't get up it's still a combo imo desu senpai

That's why I added the "unless there's a specific setup for it". Certain games can get away with letting enemies touch the floor after they are being juggled. But like I said before, generally speaking it's not as impressive unless you have a plan for it.

I like combos too, and to me a combo is hitting an enemy and keeping him in a state where he can't fightback (hitstun, knockdown, or juggle state), so, to me, combos are more than juggles.

I also like the visual design of the game
the world is colorful, the locations are varied and pretty unique, the world/Limbo trying to catch Dante is well done

in comparison, DMC4 feels like a slightly up-rezed PS2- generation game that was rushed to make it to the next gen (PS360), with its tiny rooms and corridors

I'm a little bummed that there are no kicks with the gauntlets (Eryx) like in the other DMCs, but on the other hand, I like that there is visual feedback when you charge its attacks (giant fire fists come out)

Devil May Cry 4 would be so good if it was a finished product.

I'm talking about level design here, i really enjoy the enviroments created in dmc 4, the problem is the tactics used to keep the player in the same place for long time (dice, gyro blade, etc).

Imagine, Nero campaign, maybe with the same stages, or maybe with 2 or 3 extra stages instead of the dice and gyro blade puzzles. And then, a whole campaign with dante, with him fighting his own bosses, and a 2 sided final boss battle, where you use both nero and dante, in something really good, well, to be fair, i can't believe that the level design would be good if the game came out complete anyways, but is nice to imagine.

But i feel that it was good to avoid the whole game happening in one big enemy place like in dmc 1 and 3.

Also, a proper campaign would also mean more varied enemy designs, which is also a good thing.

Getting footage for this fight is a bit painful.
Not because of them, but because you only have 3 tries to even get good footage but have to survive an onslaught of 4 difficult areas preceding this and keep the 3 tries.
There's a high chance of it being Vortex defends. It's worse when it's the triple vortex.

Well I'm not the Z2 Onechans, I'm annoying NOchan who talks a lot of shit related to VST. My version of the game happens to be superior.

There are so major key differences to both NOchan and Onechan that I'd like to confirm/ deconfirm with the Onechans. I can't record anything until Friday so you'll have to wait, but I can say one thing; NOchan has NONONO and she's fucking cuhrayzee. Reminds me a lot of Gene. I don't know, I mean I imagine someone like Gene using her moveset in a God Hand game.


Also, did the Onechans ever mention the Dodge Offset in this game? That shit alone has depth.

Z2 has dodge offset as well.

Not only does it have dodge offset, it also has trick offset (using circle moves will not interrupt your combo). So with Saki you can do your COOL combo, cancel it into the parry to fuck up a crowd, then continue your combo or dodge into a crowd to continue your combo.

I haven't even tried that out yet with Saki because she's DLC and I spent my last Yen on all the DLC outfits, I know, I know, but I couldn't resist man. it does work with Saaya, Kagura, and NONONO, though. Kagura's boomerang even has a glitched that allows me to reset it even when it's out.

I notice in your WebMs after playing the game that Skills have been exaggerated to the point that they remind me of Super moves rather than assist or just another move with special properties. Other than that, not having a devil trigger form, NONONO and no 4 characters on the fly, I don't see any real difference so far.

I think it's a necessary evil. People who come here regularly know that it's a defense mechanism and will just keep posting and not give a fuck. It's also part of everyone's skeptisism. heck I even posted about FFxv a while back and apart from one person everyone was nice about it. Especially so considering the subject matter.

At the same time I found the response to new games favorable. The only thing that concerns me is people not seeing beyond dmc4 type flashy gameplay. cuhrayzee is possible in any game imo and it would make the threads a bit more lighthearted if we went and tried more different things.

Happy holidays and such, /cgg/

Been a while since I stopped by to talk about Mayhem League, so I figured I'd pay a visit!

There's a lot of new stuff here (apart from level design progress); an overhaul of wallrunning/parkour, dash-to-melee special attacks, finishers, etc.

But by far the most significant change (at least from /cgg/'s perspective) is the armor power system.

The player's attacks build his combo meter (and damage decreases it); if he fills it past maximum, he gains "overcharge" which, when it maxes out, increases his power level. There are a number of gameplay mechanics tied into this (for example, juggling already-dead enemies yields less score but far more overcharge)

Previously, this increase gave you a boost to pre-multiplier damage and to speed (movement and attack). Now, in addition, various abilities are unlocked/upgraded with armor power. So when you start you can only do basic stuff... by armor power 8, you can double-jump 5x in a row, use bullet time, launch energy waves from your melee attacks, teleport with quick attacks, etc.

So it's sort of like Red-Orb/Halo skill unlocking, but rather than being a whole-game process, it's tied into each playthrough individually. Playing better early on will grant you more power early on, which means you can complete certain objectives and face stronger enemies more easily. It also provides a nice incentive not to get hit even when not in a combo (since there's no HP, but the armor deduction can really suck).

Seen here with a debug command shortcut racheting up the armor power since we don't have time to show the whole pattern.

There may be a few things at play here.

One is that the game jumps up to armor power 5 which means an increase in total play speed.

Another might be that I've made some optimizations that improve framerate which makes things look better.

But by far I'd say the biggest change is some particle effect reworks, namely for attack impacts and attack swipes, which makes them look bigger, rounder, and more consistent even at low FPS (which I always get when running OBS to record a stream).

Rather than attacks looking limp or jittery because the sword's anim trail can't properly generate a curve at such a low framerate (it can only sample two positions per swing, for instance, and makes ugly lines), it has a 16-frame animated swipe effect which helps to suggest the curvature of each swing regardless of the framerate.

Because I'm totally adding Danmaku elements.

Now, in my defense, I had this idea BEFORE having any awareness of Nier. In fact, in addition to 2D sidescroll sections, I've got a level-zone actor written out which turns the player's dash into an overhead shmup (though the demo's level doesn't feature it). I'm a huge Ikaruga fan and had long considered incorporating bullet-hell elements into an action game because, as with my cuhrayzee-meets-arena-shooter-meets-speedrun-platformer thing, it's another genre of game that rewards fast reflexes and high situational awareness.

It's just that seeing it incorporated into the Nier Automata trailer, and then following that backwards through some amazing videos of the Danmaku elements of the original Nier, gave me confidence that it could totally work well.

Currently, we're just using laser beams, but I do intend to have slow-projectiles as well (probably shot by enemies) and at least one attack which causes the PLAYER to launch Danmaku waves by breakdancing while using hands-and-feet projectile weapons

My issues with WSW is that the game feels too slippery and air combat is extremely lenient. A bit less than Bayonetta even. Tetrachrome has a solid foundation so far but there's still a lot that needs to be worked with. Your game seems to have a ton of shit going for it due to a lot of different mechanics that you've implemented. The only problems I have with your game is that the animations needs to be fleshed out a bit more.

Like, dodge offset, it doesn't even work well in bayonetta 2, i know that MGR has it, but i've never seen much use for it, while in bayonetta 1, you are basically doing dodge offset all the time.

Look at wonderful 101, sure it has similar stuff to bayonetta, but it was properly transported to w101, but in general, the game is a complete different beast, on how weapons, meter works...

I just think that if platinum keeps doing that, bayonetta will become less and less special.

I think the smaller licensed games are to test stuff for their big games. Transformers was testing levels and gear, this I bet is to test co op on a bigger scale then Bayonetta's 2 extra mode.

Depending on when TMNT then them testing co op in that and level/gears in TF could be them trying to get it all right for Scalebound. Don't care that you guys don't like the game it'll be fun.

The really sad part is that I feel like alot if games wouldn't get accepted even if they did have the mechanics that we're conducive for cuhrayzee but they don't have the animations. Games like dmc, bayo, ninja gaiden all have really good animation in addition to mechanics. Good, engaging mechanics is part of what entices people to play these games if they have no clue what's actually happening.

The mission mode is a lot of fun to the point where it feels like story is the extra mode and this the main meat. I also like playing as all the girls unlike Sigma 2 where I hated them. Kasumi is kinda OP even.

I played the original NG3 when it came out and I don't think I've ever been as angry after finishing a video game so I waited forever until finally picking this one up for cheap ready to be tortured again but then was actually entertained.

It still can't touch Black/2 in terms of polish but just throwing it out there for anyone else who might have passed on this game. It's definitely worth playing in a genre that has too few worthwhile games.

The bosses I think are one of the weak aspects of the game even in RE. Too many range from shit to meh. Also I feel like they have a shit ton of HP compared to previous NG titles.

Alchemists aren't so bad. Just use a lot of strong attacks, charge attacks and lvl1 UTs (you can land them surprisingly easy if you charge after a single strong hit.

They just are, feels like they have fast and powerful combos and it's easy to combo into OTs which is only easy with some of Ryu's weapons and less so with others. I guess Momiji isn't particularly amazing but the other two are great.

Kasumi has a technique that throws an enemy into the air and do a followup attack but if the enemy's already delimbed you can perform a finisher (steel on bone) that can be extended to nearby enemies. Other characters must rely on enemy grabs that can be countered with steel on bone.

Ayane is just really fast and really easy to quickly destroy most dudes with. Lots of spinning and slashing, feels like controlling a hurricane of blades.

I think it was to get CERO D. The blood isn't removed and you can see it being splattered about a bit when you cut off limbs but it's greatly reduced and also overshadowed by the purple mist effect. Also body parts just disappear instead of flying off.

It's pretty lame but not really a deal breaker. The balance changes are what makes it less fun than NG2 to me. Instead of having lots of enemies that can kill you fast if you mess up but are in turn fast to kill as well if you know what you are doing a lot of enemies now have too much HP. Ryu also takes less damage except on master ninja.

I think they kinda overdid how useless weak hits are and how useful strong hits are so it's painful when you don't have access to lvl 3 or at the very least 2 where you can do combos with multiple strongs.

I mean pretty much any enemy in the game can dodge/block/punish your weak hits with no effort making combos like WW>WWWW or the like completely pointless to even have as you want to get strong hits in asap and only use weak hits to set them up if you need to be fast.

DMC4SE's taunts are well animated and effect enemies and certain characters can even dodge attacks or deal damage while taunting.

MGR Sam's taunts act like a risk reward where you can make enemies deal more damage but the same applies to you. wish God Hand did something like this as well. Enraged enemies get insta-counter hit or something

NGB hints at Ryu having actual Dragon blood within him, hence why he was able to resist the fiend curse from Marbus and take down the Emperor. Beyond being capable of superhuman feats, he can also survive all varied sorts of wounds that would otherwise be fatal to any regular human, this is due to his spiritual health. This is why he was able to come back to life after being sliced apart with the Dark Dragon Blade by Doku (part of his spiritual life is linked to the Falcon, his spirit animal). He can also manipulate his Ki to change the laws of nature at will

So I beat Ninja Gaiden Black on the Master Ninja mode a while ago, but I had to save up lots of items for certain parts. Literally had the maximum of everything including talismans of rebirth for Awakened Alma, and I feel a bit cheap for it.

Now it's been a while since I've played it and I think I'm going to attempt some no-item runs, starting with hard mode. Has anyone done this or some other challenge on Master Ninja?

I did a no item run on Very Hard a while ago. It's not THAT hard save for a few parts, but you really need to know what you're doing and exploit a few things here and there.

For starters, guillotine throw is your friend. At the start of course you won't have it, so you need to do with stunning enemies via Wind Path and using Flying Bird Flip a lot. You can't go all guns blazing, but you can't just sit and hope that you'll be able to block all damage so you need to be very tactical. Again, for the first chapters stick to the Nunchaku and abuse Wind Path to keep enemies at bay.

The most complex thing about the first chapter is by far Murai, since you can't really cheese him in any way. Chapter 2 is a lot more forgiving, but still don't get confident. I'd recommend you look up a no-hurt video of the segment where you have to fight the mounted Samurai.

Chapter 3 is more of the same but by now you'll want to have upgraded the dragon sword to level 2.
