you have guns that turn equal-tier tanks into shitsticks (you might consider using prem shells for such encounters for higher damage rolls). Awful stuff happens when you see too many high-tier tanks, but it's still serviceable if you don't shoot at literally everything that moves, but pick the most squishy targets. The T-34/ Type T-34 are probably technically the best T5 mediums. The gun is seriously above curve, having over 1000 to 500 DPM over other medium tank's non-derps. That said I wouldn't exactly call it 'fun'. The tanks are fairly sluggish and your gun fires faster than it can aim and you have a very low amount of hit points to play with (this is the same for all normal T5 mediums).
The M4 Sherman/Sherman 3 are mostly shadows of their former selves, the RoF nerf to the 105mm was too much in my opinion, but it is still the best gun for the tanks probably and has that fun (for the one pulling the trigger anyway) one-shotting factor. The 76mm is a fine gun, but honestly fairly mediocre with poor alpha, DPM and gun handling. The M4 has amazing -12 gun depression, the sherman 3 only has -10 but has slightly buffed RoF on the 76mm and the option to use the British 6pdr gun, which has a blisteringly fast RoF, but as a gun it pales in comparison to the 57mm of the T-34s.
The Pz IV is my personal favorite of the t5 normal mediums. It is very much an all rounder. It has the best acceleration of the 3 tanks discussed so far, but has the lowest top speed. Again it's probably best to use the 105mm for it's pre-nerf levels of DPM that the M4 lost (if you can pen with the new HEAT ammo) and the ability to potentially really hurt those massively healthy tier 7s you'll face very so often. The 75mm is the 'sniper' gun, but it's pretty bad at what it's supposed to do. The DPM, while better than similar guns on the other mediums is still poor. The alpha damage, gun handling and penetration are similarly mediocre.
The M7 is the fastest and most agile of the T5 mediums, resembling a light tank with it's solid view range. The main letdown is the gun selection, the 6 pounder is a fine gun, but again, pales in comparison to the T-34's. You are also at risk of being HE penned by the liked of the Pz IV and M4 Sherman from all angles.

The Pz III/IV is the final T5 I'll discuss. This tank is pretty unique. The armour has fair thickness and good sloping, that can help bounce other mediums in a knife-fight and the tank is second only to the M7 in agility to the tanks in my analysis. You have the same 75mm as the Pz IV with lowered DPM, which means you actually probably shouldn't knife-fight with other mediums. Overall I enjoyed it a lot. The view range is very poor though, so it's not a scout like the M7 is.
The T-34-85 can out-trade other mediums with its rather hefty 85mm gun for the tier. The armour is poor and the mobility is not too much better than the T-34 at tier 5, but the gun is very well rounded.
The Cromwell/A43 are very fast medium tanks with good DPM. The Cromwell has better pen and slightly better alpha, but suffers from pretty awful gun handling. The A43 is faster and has two good guns. The 76mm makes it play like a super fast Easy 8, while the 57mm has it play like a MT-25 without shitfuck MM, amazing agility.
The Easy 8 has the same amazing -12 gun depression of the tier 5 but improves on the mobility a lot. The 76mm now fires like a machine gun and handles a lot better. Never played it, but I can see it being fun, even if it's not a top tier vehicles. Needs an HD model.

3601 is powercreeped to shit.
Tiger 1 has great firepower but is hard for noobies to play.
Tiger II is mediocre all the way around apart from its accuracy.
E 75 is still a strong tank with stronk alpha and crazy mobility for a 100 ton tank. The long reload is very dangerous tho.
E 100 is THE T10 brute heavy tank. Crushing alpha damage but the tank requires a lot of finesse as the armour is heavily dependant on angling. Must fire HEAT. The German heavies overall require more skill than the other heavy lines.

IS has a monstrous gun that 4 shots same tier and even some above heavies. The armour is kind of bad but the mobility is solid for a heavy. Get into people's faces and smash them.
IS-3 is a similar story, tho the alpha is less destructive to higher tiers in comparison. Your armour is GREATLY improved from the IS. One of the best tanks in the game.
T-10 looks really solid now, but I haven't played it. More like an IS than the IS-3 though (poor armour for tier).
IS-7 is like a tier 10 IS-3, but not as good for its tier. Armour is trolly, impenetrable turret. Gun may be as likely to troll you as it is to troll your enemies. Russians are the usual go-to line when new players ask for line suggestions, very solid.

M6 is sort of like a tiger at tier 6. Great firepower, poor armour, decent mobility.
T29 is crazy. Nearly impenetrable turret for any tier you face (mind your overmatch mechanics) and has one of the better hull protections for the tier (don't rely on it). Gun is p good. Great for learning positional play (lol arty).
T32 is the same as above but the gun sucks more compared to the other guys' guns. Kind of like your T29 was kept the same but moved up a tier.
M103, I don't even know about this thing anymore. Fair mobility, great top gun, armour is filled with holes tho.
T110E5, very strong after armour buff, great all rounder. The Americans are another widely recommended line because of their stronk turrets.

The kind of grinding you would need to get up to tier 12 or 15 would be so extreme that it would deter new players (and they wont touch the current balance of grinding in tier 1-10). This above all else is why we will never see over tier 12 max if that in regular wot.
It just makes sense to make a new game where the grinding can be balanced. Besides its been pretty clear that they have been gearing down the development of WoT for a long time (only 3 regular branches per year since WTE 100 branch) and it would make sense for them working on 2.0 already especially seeing that AW is out.

AW is gaining traction but ultimately isn't going to be huge enough to motivate WG to invest in an entirely new engine, or go through the troubles of creating assets, on top of risking losing their existing playerbase in transition. Moreover, there's no reason why WG can't just relegate current t1-5 tanks into "training tier" and introduce modern tanks to fill the void.
WoT isn't going to run out of content any time soon for WG to consider developing WoT 2.0, neither does it make economic sense for them to do so therefore it won't happen anytime soon.

From what I understand AW is in Minecraft/DayZ style beta, as in "release a half finished game and then slowly fix/polish it up to release quality." So it'll be a while until AW is up to par gameplay wise but it's not going away any time soon.
WoT is far too lazy/incompetent to release a modern tanks game though, modeling tanks is pretty much the only thing they can do competently. If WoT dies on NA and other servers they'll just populate matchmaking with bots like in WoWP while continuing to throw out new shitty tanks that idiots can buy.

Excelsior is a bad T14 for the most part. The turret isn't as good, and AP pen is just as useless, and it's actually slower in a straight line because of the crippled terrain resistances. The only real fun part about it is the meme tank rear armour; it's funny to watch tier 3s and 4s think that flanking is a useful skill in this game as they bounce off your ass.

It's not much better at the purple end either. The current top 5 clans on NA have managed to maintain close to 100 members by either not kicking inactives (Bulba) or just cannibalizing the other recently deceased purple clans (the others, I guess).

New physics is kind of annoying, especially when playing mediums. Feels sluggish to start from stop, and every tank feels slow to turn. Realistic, but not fun. At least they reduced tanks flipping over. Good on WG for saving retards from themselves.
New sounds are mostly okay, except for how disorientating when different sound levels, compensating for distant and local shots, happen all at once. Also I don't feel like there's enough ferocity/immediacy for the entire firing/reloading sequence of sounds, as if there isn't enough omph and kick from the recoil and the loader is lackadaisically reloading shells instead of slamming it in like he would in combat conditions.

LefH18B2 - Gifted to me by a clanmate. Almost like a Tier V FV304 in terms of accuracy, but has a much longer range to back it up as well as a faster RoF. It's only downside being its sluggish mobility, but it's arty so it's not too big a deal.

IS-3A - Would like to try, but can't afford atm.
Jag 88 - Own it. Enjoy it. Tier 8 Credit Printer. Doesn't really need pref MM.
TOG II - Jingles' meme tank, but it does have a great gun with fine accuracy. It's also a giant aggro-wagon, as every arty, TD, and everything else will pick you off if you're not being supported.
KV-5 - Own it. GF loves it. I do okay in it, but have yet to successfully ram anyone with it.
T14 - Own it, but never played it. Might be useful someday I dunno.

I did the same, but had the sense to throw freexp at the BL-9. You have pretty much every module on the other line except the T-10 engine and tracks/turrets when you're done. I kept all of them in my garage except the KV-3. The IS is just straight up better, and the gap is getting worse with the KV-3 HD nerf. The A-43 is actually a strong competitor to the cromwell IMHO, very agile and two good guns. fun as fuck. A-44 is kind of a cancer tank, I liked it a lot though for the big alpha and decent speed. 416 and up are great tanks but quirky with the rear mounted, limited traverse tanks. People describe the 416 as a TD, but I find great success going to the front lines and sidescraping (just mind your overmatch mechanics).

The gun is fine. The hitpoint gap between tier 4 and 6 is a rather big problem. Tier 4 TDs can manage because their armour is stealth, but a big slow medium that relies on firepower can't do much when you have 380 hitpoints vs 800+ hitpoints.

Sent. Try not o lose hope too fast this time. As far as tier IV goes, it doesn't take that long for any line. However, you can't go wrong with the russian heavy line, although the tier 4 can be difficult to get the hang of. It's a pretty noob friendly line. The Japaanese Tier 5 and 6 heavies are also pretty much broken, although the tanks before them are bad. The IS-7 line is probably the easiest to get to tier 10 on (I definitely don't have an ulterior motive here).
Sometimes I feel like loaders have a serious dearth of meaningful skills compared to all the other specializations.
What kinda stuff could be given to them to make them less underwhelming? It'd have to be something to do with ammunition--maybe a skill which increases shell normalization? Maybe one to increase the cap on ammunition you can carry? Open up special ammunition types? Maybe give Adrenaline Rush a small, flat bonus to reload speed on top of the extra speed at low HP? One to decrease camo penalty on firing?

It's a Heavy/TD hybrid. Strong frontal plate and can bounce most things with good angling and positioning, along with the 88 gun that can pen most things accurately with a nice 4 second reload. It is NOT a traditional TD that you can just camp bushes with. It's just too big for that sort of thing.
Download some replays of it off WoTReplays and see how it performs.
Also, it gets pref matchmaking (only sees Tier 9 tops) and is an excellent credit earner. It also is rarely sold anymore after it got "retired" so snatch it up if you can.
