5mm isnt a real round far as i know, they came up with it in 3 and stuck with it instead of making the minigun 7.62x51 nato (.308) like actual us military miniguns (they had to come up with a seperate ammo type thats found in larger amounts for the minigun, so that guns realistically using the same ammo wouldnt have an extreme amount of ammo stock)

Why do they make shells disappear so fucking quickly?
If you have a mod that changes that looks really cool looking over a battlefield and seeing all the brass on the ground.
You need over 1,000 shells on screen before performance even starts to take a hit.
They have the sound effects and physics and everything to work really well if they stick around longer than 5 seconds, they even react to stuff like explosions and landing in a pile of shells while wearing power armor makes them all scatter away from you.

You can follow the Institute quests up to Mass Fusion no matter what, Mass Fusion will turn the Brotherhood against you if you go with the Institute.
