The alternative equlibrium reached is a case of "hegemony" which isnt really possible on NFA PvP because of the resource and taming modifiers.

The closest analogue is EVE Online. You can be a pirate and prey on weak ships but if you attack any major corporation, you risk raising the ire of an alliance that will send a punitive force to fuck you up. It's all politics. The major difference is that in EVE, it's easy to fuck up people solo or in small groups if you fit your ship right. And they'll REALLY fuck you up too, station camping you 24/7 for days or some shit if you piss them off enough. I guess you could do that in Ark with the whole force feeding narcs thing though.
If you wanted to actually do dedicated PVP in Ark, you'd need to have a tribe capable of warding off every other major power. And if you actually managed to gather such a force, In the end, the server would be split into two factions: you, and everyone else. You'd have a long standing stalemate going on like years back how EVE had the Northern Coalition vs some other gigantic entity whose name I forget.

Yeah I think its interesting on NFA watching certain tribes project there force (like burd for example) while other tribes who are perfectly capable of projecting force and extending their spheres do not, its subtle but it exists.
Me and my guys only just arrived and we're getting a feel for the server atm, its curious how little PvP will actually arise once there is an equilibrium like that, the only way to start a war and "survive" would be to have no permanent base and to find some way to constantly move your gear and dinos around, which makes it impossible to actually attack any enemy bases because they all require a mass of rexs and other spongey dinos to get to.
If the server culturally adopted a tolerance to killing people when they are out farming it could be interesting but because its so small and tight knit there will never be an everyone v everyone scenario.
It reminds me of games of CivV with my friends where we each watch each other like hawks to make sure nobody runs away with it and all devise sneaky strategies to build as big an army as possible or as much force projection as possible without hitting the number one spot on demographics (which invites scrutiny).
Not exactly alike but the homeostasis is similar.

I quit playing because the null-sec politics were fucking retarded; I had more fun as a roaming low-sec pirate than I ever had playing war games as a low level corp redshirt in null-sec. Also, there was the whole not being able to improve your character skills by any other method than waiting in actual real time. Who wants to spend 30 days training Battleship 5? Yeah fuck that shit. I can grind in most games and get my character where I need him to be to do endgame things. In EVE, you're just fucked and have to wait to do the things you want to do or become crazy successful in the ISK department and buy special ships/modules so you can skirt the skill requirements for things.
In EVE there are a lot more people, so you can have a lot of disparate powers at play and wars going on all at once. NFA PVP doesn't have the population (or the map size)to support that sort of thing; everyone knows everyone else, everyone generally stays out of everyone's else's turf, and big ass wars don't happen. When someone rocks the boat, everyone gets spooked they'll be next, so someone takes action and wipes them out. Ark has no economy to speak of, but at its core, it's supported by the same thing: collecting resources. Instead of currency changing hands, we deal directly in resources. Why do people usually raid? To steal your shit of course.

There's no real geopolitics in it. If there were there'd be more hesitation to attack someone, even if they were a known raider. Instead you "project force" freely because you are friends with the people who matter. The map is far too small, the resources far too plentiful, and the population of nfa pvp especially too small for real politics. Officials can't even reach it.
It might have the barest resemblance to your little pet project but it's only slight.

There should be an actual reason to attack other players, I think. Right now there's no real drive to compete, unless you count people claiming shit they don't intend to use, but, then, they're probably more established than you anyways and by the time you can compete with them, you've already invested a ton in another area entirely, so that eliminates the need for duking it out.

What do jobs or schools have to do anything? I work 12 hour shifts, but I haven't claimed prime real estate that is miles away from where my actual base is. Well what's the point of pvp'ing in a small server? There's nothing to really gain from it, i don't need someone else's shit when I have everything and then the whole server will be on my ass because they want to pvp without retaliation (being that their pvp is "justified")
large servers are going to have natural pvp fighting over land or you can play survival of the fittest
the only way pvp happens on a server like nfa pvp is if someone comes in with the sole purpose of pvp'ing and has nothing to lose

Anyone else ever had a dino that wouldn't fall unconscious and ended up dying to tranq arrows? I had a rex and a megalodon both do this to me. And way back a dimorphodon did it too. Fucker had like 5 tranq sticking out of his face. And yes I am sure I was using tranq arrows.

I usually mass fire on big creatures like rexs and then kite it for a minute to see does it fall unconscious, and the just recite "fire-2-3-4-fire-2-3-4" in my head
