Ok, so I've reached the no turning back point. Spoilers ahead of course, won't bother with tags.
How do I side with the Minutemen? Does it require betraying every other faction? Am I barred from the institute forever if I do the Railroad's "Free the synths" quest?
Ideally, what I want is for the Minutemen to keep securing the Commonwealth, the Synths to be freed, and synth production to stop altogether. I hate most of what the Institute stands for, but I don't want any ending that results in us destroying them, their research is too valuable. With Father very stupidly deciding to appoint me as his successor, I see a good opportunity to change things from the inside, move away from synth development and improve Institute-surface relations.
Is this too optimistic or are all endings going to result in me destroying every other major factions? I'm fine with destroying the BOS, I like those guys but they absolutely can't be reasoned with so they're acceptable collateral damage in my opinion.

I know how you feel man. I think all the people claiming it was super easy are min-maxing or something. I'm playing through with (initially 3) 4 endurance and getting ambushed by even 3 raiders can prove a challenge if I can't find suitable cover quickly.
Of course, if I can find suitable cover its typically a game of cover-cover-pop out and shoot-cover-cover-run to next cover-pop out for a shot-cover.
Still, makes it a lot more interesting than the normal difficulty where I'd be able to stand out in the open unless I was right down in the Gunners base at Quinsy.

Yeah, I got 3 in endurance. Originally I planned to connect some sort of a survivalist build with this playthrough (like I did in NV and it actually worked out), but in the end I went for the gunslinger thing and left with 4 in endurance after picking up the SPECIAL book.

You dont really have to. You can buy muskets fromRonnie Shaw in the Castlethat have six-crank capacitors and other mods, then just swap them out.
This works with most weapons and armor except maybe power armor. The crafting perks are mostly for convenience.

How do you tell which settler in your settlement is actually a synth? What do they do that might give them away as being a synth?There is a possibility for a settler to be a synth. They can drag down the happiness of a community because they raise the suspicion of other settlers.

I think Luck actually has a noticeable effect on drops. My new character has 5 Luck and I'm finding a lot more and better equipment at earlier levels than my old character who only had 1 point in Luck.
