So I am trying to learn to play with tap jump on to do double sticking sheninigans, but I realized a really shitty problem that keeps occur is when you try to do an upB in the air.
Because of tap jump, I keep doing my second jump in the air before the upB comes out.
But! This doesn't happen on the ground. I can do upB normally without accidentally jumping before hand if I am on the ground.
Anyone else experience this problem?

You can do it normally on the ground because you're pressing the B during the jump squat frames while on the ground.
In the air, you have to tilt the stick up a bit lighter and press B at the same time. Tilt it enough that the up b happens, but not enough to jump.
That's the exact reason I never play Yoshi with tap jump, I want to throw eggs without cancelling my double jump.also B-sticking is dumb af

Ah, it does sound like I am pressing the direction stick up too hard when I am doing upB. I used to not use tap jump, so I am not used to this.
I turned on tap jump, so I could practice doing frame perfect shorthop Dairs, Fairs, and Bairs out of shield.
But holy crap this new shield stun mechanic is completely messing me up. When someone hits my shield, and I try to punish with a shorthop Fair, sometimes only a jump comes out, and other times I accidentally grab instead.
You know why this is happening? I understand it has something to do with incorrect buffering.

Is it really that common of a problem? I don't notice it that much.
But anyways, smash 4 has the same buffer window of 10 frames as brawl, but you can only buffer 1 input instead of a bunch. If during the shield stun frames, you press jump and aerial, you'll come out of shield stun and only the jump will come since you can't go straight into a move OoS, and if you use the attack button in shield you get a shield grab.
It'd be less likely before the patch because shield stun ended so quickly, the jump was input after shield stun, and the aerial was buffered during jump squat.
Recommended workaround is expect the shield stun, if you see a strong 12+ damage move, know that a really fast jump after shielding might be buffered instead of putting you straight into jumpsquat. In that case, you'll have to time the c-stick aerial to be input during jump squat.
Really you have to adapt to the new shield pressure.

Input priority says special is highest, but since no special move cancels shield, it'll be ignored and move on to the highest priority input that can be buffered.
That's in shield stun though. if there is no shield stun, then you don't need to buffer anything. Jump cancels shield. Puts you in jump squat. Then the special move happens. It's only when inputting both during shield stun that one will get ignored

C-stick inputs a direction and attack. C-stick up could possibly be a jump if you have tap jump on.
Tilt stick is a slight analog stick direction and attack. Smash stick is the full analog stick direction and attack. Mainly why I (kinda incorrectly) mentioned jump since a full analog stick up is a jump with tap jump. Doesn't happen because attack is higher input though.
