Mercy is good but she requires very smart players in order for her to be even remotely useful. She moves incredibly slow, has basically zero damage output on her own, and has only one movement ability that is almost no help when caught out. It's very easy to pick her off or harass her to the point where the enemy has to lose focus on the objective to keep her alive. Even though her ultimate can provide a huge swing it comes with a giant telegraph and requires the team to be getting beat down in the first place.
Lucio? Oh boy. He is fast as fuck, heals heath as a latent effect, can in one press of a button make everyone near him effectively invincible, counters just about every other ultimate, AND does respectable easily spammed damage. As a flanking character you pretty much can't bring him down because of how quickly he regens and how easily he dodges most of your shots.
While Mercy takes a lot of thought to play well and keep alive Lucio just skates around like a madman laughing at anyone who tries to gank him.

It can be a problem but you have time to react to it, if you hear her ulti go off you can back up and at least prepare yourself. You could make it so that she at least has to be out of the spawn to use it, that way she is in the playing field and can be killed to prevent it going off.

Everyone keeps saying this, and I keep thinking it all day every day.
Blizzard fucked up big time, at least with HOTS the game was a fucking disaster in beta. Horrible balance, god awful matchmaking(still hasnt been fixed nearly a year after release) and almost no heroes.
Meanwhile, this game has the entire fucking roster, really good balance and 8 maps.
I just...don't get it.

I'm debating just buying a beta key and giving it a shot, but the characters seem really bland and something about the gameplay looks off to me.
Most of the gameplay I've seen is people just shooting at eachother in big empty fields with little movement or positioning.

They can't release it without a progression system in my opinion. You need something to work for. It could be something as simple as a "Master" skin like HotS has once you reach level 9 with a hero that is just for show. I don't want gameplay shit locked up, but there needs to be something people can have for a goal to work towards.

They've fucked themselves. They can't release it to the public, via open beta or pre-order beta until they have some kind of hook to keep people playing until they actually pay for it which they don't have.

I figured out why the characters in Paladins bother me so much. They all have the Dreamworks face. There's no attempt at creating a different personality.
