Playing KotOR, I don't feel like there's any reason not to pick Scoundrel.
You're only going to need like 6 feats total no matter what you intend on focusing on, and they get a sizable amount of free extra damage and assloads of skill points for the 7-8 levels you get with it.
And it's awesome with every Jedi class. Guardian's big pounce attack gets Sneak Attack when starting combat, Sentinel is the only skillmonkey path, and Consular gets to combo big superhigh-DC disables with Sneak Attack flurries.

If you're going mundane 2 / jedi 18, the scoundrel is pretty unappealing compared to the load of useful free stuff the other two get in those two levels.
Scouts get flurry (the best attack action), medium armor, implant 1 and +6 HP over scoundrel, soldiers get +1 attack, heavy armor, power attack and +8 HP over scoundrel. In exchange for 1d6 sneak attack, +2 defense and some skillpoints. Critical strike is near-worthless.

Yeah, that's a very reasonable and understandable take.The end of the chapter is less the smuggler's success, and more the failure of two others. The finale with Skavak was abrupt and lacked build-up, and Nok Drayen's failed betrayal makes his whole plan seem rather small and pointless. The ending simply lacked impact, and the game fails to convey any meaningful impact regarding the smuggler's big score, of cashing it in or enjoying success, in much the same way as the game generally fails in most class stories to properly convey a sense of time passing between events.
I enjoyed it alright at the time, but I still had my launch goggles on back then. Looking back, it's hard to ignore that it was a low-key ending for the chapter.

for example. the highest parse on record for vigilance/vengeance is 6.7.
the highest parse on record overall is 7.4
that's a huge gap. top 50 is all sents/vanguards/slingers.
they still have the survivability of course, and are still good for pvp, but again, not as good since other classes got boosted quite a bit, but poor guardians didn't.
don't be a fotm fag though, if you enjoy it, play it. and after all, what matters is the damage you do in operations, not on dummy parses, and that depends more on your own skill than the class

It's tough to say how the market will be in 4.0, now that the packs are more or less gone, but there was low and high price cycles. Old packs hit the cartel market, prices sank on items in those packs, time passed and they rose again. Looking at the sluttiest and edgiest gear was the best way to judge how desirable the item was. When you watch those two things playing the GTN isn't really risky at all, it just takes time. I've made profit on probably 90% of the items I've dealt in.
The only thing I really got burned on was the Concealed Bodysuit Pants. Bought a bunch at 1m, expecting to sell for 1.5m, but they grew less and less desirable because of the Revealing variant. Even now I'm still trying to get rid of them at a loss just to get my money out of them. Been sitting on them longer than any other item in my bank, so I know they aren't bouncing back.

T3 specifically overcomes more skill challenges than you'd use Mission for, specifically Repair and probably Computers, and can cover Demolitions with a combination of cross-class ranks massive Int, specialized droid equipment, and probably spare feats he's got nothing else to do with.
But he can't do stealthy shit and his combat role is basically whatever utility you get out of those special weapons (I seem to remember there being a shield-breaker and a number of lockdown options so they're not bad). Mission can cloak around and pull some pretty funny pre-battle pranks by setting up mines, and her damage output with sneak attack is top-tier.
