Skills were handled differently between Symphonia and Abyss. Graces had that whole Eleth thing. The shop-upgrading in Xillia was pretty unique to it. Cooking got tweaks between various games, and the way Artes are learned or titles are applied often changes as well. You sound like an overreacting whiner frankly.

I for one liked the skill system, mainly due to it's exploitation potential.
I've currently got my party with 15x invalida on Sorey, as well as 3 4x stacks (wunder, phoenix, and winder, the last being just what I had left over) and 6x priventi (working on that). My seraphs have 11x priventi, 9x invalida, and 11x <element damage>.
The result is that I can spam "ultimate" seraphic artes non-stop. The SC cost is so low thanks to that 15x that I regenerate automatically in between comboes faster than I can actually use it. The cast speed is so fast thanks to the double 11x that I can cast faster than enemies can use martial artes at all. The stacks of priventi and invalida as well as the 9x stack effect give me 8000 points of HP where I cannot be staggered or inturrupted, as well as 510 points of damage reduction per-hit, with every hit over 1000 reduced by half.
This kind of combination build is what I live for in an RPG. It shouldn't be just one skill breaking the game, it's about combining a bunch of lesser skills into one build that absolutely tears it to pieces.
As far as the grind for putting this all together, the only "bad" part was getting the LotL up to level 25 for the NG+ carry over points. Items drop like candy in Zestiria as long as you use Mystic Artes to kill the first (several) enemies in a pack. I average about 4 high-level drops per enemy group, with combat lasting less than 10 seconds TOTAL, including the fade in and score screen. I've seen as many as 11 drops from a single fight (though that one did take about a minute). Skills on the items are equally common with the help of Normin, provided you 5 star the enemy types you are grinding.
Fusion can be difficult to learn at first, but the concept is pretty easy to grasp once you've had a little practice. The result is that you pretty much only have to grind for X item with Y skill in Z slot, you can use different items for each slot and the unwanted slots don't matter.

Since you control which item drops (most) by targetting a specific enemy type, and which skills are found with normin, the only part of the item that really takes grinding is the skill slot. There are only 3 open slots per item. By the time you've collected 10 of the item in question you probably have the skills for all three slots ready for fusion. It's hardly any grind at all.

You know, Tales games tend to have pretty good foreshadowing (sometimes too much, because Japan). Something that I guess is a bit of a missed opportunity, ifLailah had noticed Mikleo's resemblance to Michael when they first met. You could argue that since he's a seraph and it's just the eyes she wouldn't have necessarily made the connection, but even if she had seen something her oath would have prevented her from asking about it.
It's just replaying games like Symphonia or Abyss a second time through you'll find all these little things or comments that only have significance in retrospect (like when Colette starts eating foods she hates, or Kratos talks to her about counting stars at night and says that it would take a lifetime to count them all, or when Genis says he knows how to map via the sky in case he and Raine suddenly have to move, or Mithos reacting in the background when the party talks about getting help from Yuan, or a million other things -- even Dawn of the fucking New World does it well, like the people in Palmacosta telling Emil they didn't recognize him at first and it's played off as being because he's an isolated wuss with no friends).

well I can't deal enough damage to the 2nd form of Heldalf so now I have no choice but to farm and do some real fucking fun equipment fusion bullshit.
It seems like that up until this point there was always a tactical or strategic way to defeat each enemy by dodging etc. But for this second form apparently I have to do enough damage to trigger shooting my Seraphs out of that deus ex machina gun.
My other option is to tear this fucking game out of the PS4 and set it aflame out back. Its quite tempting I can assure you of that much. The only reason I won't is because I don't like burning money.

Maelstrom, Ancient Nova, Cloudburst, ie "Spam your most powerful seraphic artes". Earth is a bit more tricky because Gigaton Smash is garbage, I would recommend weaving together some melee hidden artes and crystal tower.
Do the fight in order from your WORST character to your Best (almost definitely Lailah/Fire). If you want to take a chance, you can switch to the next character you want to sacrifice every 100k HP or when he starts his super attack.
If you can get an 11 stack of any skill on Sorey that will make the fight (and pretty much every other fight in the game) incredibly easy. It reduces seraphic arte cast time by 40% (can stack twice for 80% reduction). Putting it on Sorey means that you will be able to benefit from it no matter who you armatize with.
As for how to stack skills, just stick a normin or three in the lord of the land settings for the region you want to farm in. As much as possible, kill the FIRST enemies in a group with Mystic Artes. The more enemies you kill simultaneously with a mystic arte BEFORE killing any other enemy in the battle, the more drops you get. Look for enemy types that cluster at the start of combat, because you can usually kill the entire pack with a single Arte.
Fusing items is pretty simple once you understand the basic work order.
1 Find an item with the desired skill in the desired slot. Here we have "Fiara x2" in slot 3. (not counting the first "fixed" skill)
2 Remove any unwanted skills from that item by combining it with "junk" items. Here we remove Wresst from slot 2 by combining it with Tempescht x2. If turns blue, it is gone for our purposes
3 Take your equipped item and remove any skill in the target slot (slot 3 here). Use the same method as in step 2. In this example, the slot is already empty
4 Combine the equipped item and the one with the target skill. The result should NOT produce any blue skills. If it does, you forgot to remove something.

The reason you start with your WORST character is because Rose can then use your Best to help damage the boss. Once you get down to your last character she won't be able to armatize at all, so you need to be using your best seraph by yourself.
As for which skills to stack, if you don't give a shit about postgame content and only want to finish the final boss, just stack 11x lindwer on Sorey and your good to go. You have 15 open slots, and the best rings have it by default so that's one freebie (double skills do NOT count twice until NG+). Lindwer actually only stacks to 5 (+75% damage), but the other 6 stacks will activate Mistiq, which is what will make the boss super easy.
I would rather wait until NG+ for the postgame content, whereupon you can buy the "double skills count towards stack bonuses" in the NG+ grade shop, and then get really crazy with the skill comboes. Of course, double skills themselves are hard to come by, the trick for doing that is detailed here http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/740217-tales-of-zestiria/faqs/71495. It basically involves fusing a "joke" weapon 109 times and then sacrificing it for every type of skill you want to double on future drops.

In Fire Emblem Awakening (yes blah blah blah casuals blah poison) there's this goofy little side feature that lets you pick two units and this old man gives them a (mostly randomized) relationship prediction. If you pick two guys and it gives positive results, the Japanese version has the old man freak out, whereas the English version has him say "I'm rootin' for you, brother!"
Japan will tease the hell out of this shit, but cultural conformity and pressure are such to the point that they would tend to leave themselves wiggle room no matter how close they toe the line. Having plausible deniability makes all the difference.

Some people forget cultural differences are a thing. It's like how you have American SJW idiots who will rage at the lack of diversity/exclusion of "PoC" in an anime set in Japan, ignoring that a) Japan is a very homogenous society and b) regardless of how they're drawn, the characters are likely supposed to be Asian.
That's not to say that, say, showing a gay couple in a positive light in Japanese media couldn't be a statement or an effort to promote acceptance... it's just not done under the exact same cultural mindset as some might think.
All this talk and all I can think of is how I came away from the game thinking that Sorey and Mikleo had a more realistic and enjoyable dynamic than Asbel and Cheria ever did, and it was even better because it wasn't actually focused on.

The main problem with Inomata is that she throws shit in without caring for the setting or the world.
Look at what Fujishima's done, and even when looking fantastical, it still manages to fit into the world. He puts little details in the clothes to create a sense of world building, be it the pointy shapes or the colors used to by relegious characters, he tries to make it fit.
He can do some bad designs (Like Estelle, which looks great when you meet her, and then she slips into a pink dress with heart boobs).
Inomata though, just does stuff. Look at Graces. It looks like every single character came from a different world and time period.

I was really not a fan. I understand why the story would need to be condensed and such. I really disliked how they went about doing it. They also threw in some really weird plot points and shit that wasn't in the original that didn't actually do anything to enhance the plot, so who knows why they bothered.

Did Rose even get any character development? I know Zesty was pretty bad about it all around with Dezel's being a clusterfuck and Edna and Lailah getting theirs in side stuff, but Rose didn't really feel like she got any.
