It's pretty long ranged when channeled up and only ever knocks in one direction (toward the enemy fountain)
So you don't even have to be careful about knocking champs toward your carry ever.
You get in the middle of shit, start channeling ult when people are diving toward your backline

i see everyone going standard ap pages (mpen marks, ap quints) or full armor but i am not sure either of those are optimal. the ap one is ok vs ranged, but those matchups (gnar, lulu, lissandra etc) are shit for malph anyways. i've seen some koreans (flame, marin) go hybrid pen marks and aspd quints, which I think is very strong vs melee, where you have to attack them consistently in lane. also makes cs'ing a bit easier with the attack speed.
for masteries, i run 0-12-18 with grasp. i think it's a lot better than strength of ages (takes too long to scale up) and bond of stone (except in teamfights, but it's getting nerfed anyways. thoughts?

All W is is a "guess when they may dash" ability. They can easily bait it out or make you use it to give you a shitty short knockup, which then they'll continue to harrass you with in the next six seconds. Im aware of the other things that come with the ability. Unfortunately, it's a jack of all trades ability that would have worked better as a more specific ability, so they could balance it by giving the non dash denial field more active time. It would give her character a more specific role and make her more appealing to pro teams. If the enemy team has a lot of dashes or a champ who will be troublesome with them, get Poppy cause she'd have a more reliable W that is more available.

It went okay. It is really back and forth once both sides have reliable mana pools.
She's only really annoying if she saps your soul for the trial. It can be a little hairy, but otherwise I was able to keep her thoroughly bottled up.
She gave up around the 20 minute mark after 4 utter failures for ganks by her jungler (since I was pushed up all day it was even funnier).
Eventually she left the lane and went to go get fed by my retarded teammates. I took the opportunity to go all the way and take the inhib.
Eventually we forced a fight where I got on top of an ebic vayne mayne, shat on her face, and proceeded to mop up the rest of the team leading to a straight mid push and 2 inhibs down, leaving winions to do the work for us.

No, you dont want to build Ap on sona. Your heals are shit either way, your q has a range you dont want to be in past laning, and your ult is your only crowd control aside from your powerchords. If you build utiility anc cdr, then you have more shit more often, which is more useful for your team and carry rather than dying if a darius does a twirl in your direction.
Ap can be useful if your ahead to keep them down, but if you're at the point where you're buying AP over utility, you're probably winning either way.

Why didnt Riot just make Poppy's ult stun all enemies in range, or at least do some hammer trope that would make her more of an offensive character. Right now with her rework ult, being a disengager is boring. Sion has to charge up to knockup people with a Q that doesnt have a long cd. But Poppy has one on an ult, that can become a huge knockback at full, except you cant control where they get knocked to. The ult really feels like a joke tacked on during one meeting rather than a thought out ability.

The problem is that they hit rewind on her lore and instead of her going through that character arc and becoming the hero after proving herself worthy through circumstance, she's smack dab in the middle of her character development which means she's fighting in the League with a hammer that, in her mind, isn't hers for... fun I guess.

Everyone on the forums were suggesting this change, but for some reason, Riot decided to ignore us entirely and make a totally new champ. I know cause I was there. Exactly my point. The story itself isn't a problem. The problem is that riot hasn't identified that, for example, Link is a different person when he kills Ganon at the end of Ocarina of time than the kid in the Kokiri Village.
Right now poppy doesn't understand that the burden is hers, so she's going to spend the next X number of years running around asking people if they're the hero and then promptly ignoring them and continuing to act like she's the hero.

Why does Poppy have a disengage /slash minor initiation ult when the rest of her kit is about sticking to a target? Actually, why did they make it so that the enemies are untargetable on flight? This really is the kicker and why her ult is very underwhelming. I suppose they didn't want her becoming super good initiator like Malphite and Amumu or Jarvan levels of AOE cc, so they just make it so she just knocks people back really far, if she happens to land it. I am beyond impressed with the fact that you not only successfully kept her "core look" while updating it to modern standards - but you've also made a new Splash Art for every single Skin!
Not only is it great for her to have new Splashes for all of her Skins in on itself, it is also great because now you don't have that awkward situation where the Splash Arts are incredibly different between one another - it's one thing for them to be done by different artists, but this avoids the common problem of the Champion in question looking completely different from Splash-to-Splash!
Excellent stuff and I hope that Riot continues this trend of updating Splashes as time goes on (as much as it is financially feasible, of course).
Otherwise, the new kit looks great, both in terms of gameplay and visuals!

The rest of her kit is plenty to handle in lane or team fights and contribute effectively. Having a little variety in her kit provides versatility.
