I like Wanko.
EOPs getting keked out of their own general again.
>>123089090
no just ignoring the /jp/ retards
Is SubaHibi actually still being worked on, or did Herkz drop it and Kirby doesn't want to say anything because he's afraid of upsetting the cartel?
>>123092578
at this point they have to be in talks with a publisher to see if they can get picked up and be an official release.
Why the delay otherwise?
>>123092694
It is a bit odd how silent everyone went on it so suddenly, when before it was constant updates with every sign it was very close to release. I wouldn't be surprised if you were right.
>>123092578
Dude, herkz is working day and night on Subahibi. I don't think he' had more than 3 hours of sleep a night for the last couple of months. He's the most devoted worker I know.
I'm having trouble with Bunny Black. I think I've figured out most of the systems and whatnot, but I'm just getting absolutely destroyed in battles and my party members are almost all useless. What am I doing wrong?
>>123092864
Put the MC in the front, and only him. Focus on the skill that gives more defense and hp. Basically make him a tank so you can reduce the cost for reviving monsters.
Also let him learn all the healing spells and shit.
>>123092864
If you're at the point where you're seeing a ton of yellow encounters with strong mobs everywhere, this is a story related event and they go away soon. Just run from them for now.
>>123093187
I haven't actually leveled up yet. I've only seen a couple fights where I can actually kill them without having to immediately go home and heal after. Not the most practical way to grind.
>>123093615
If you haven't been grinding in the beginning then you might have fucked up because of this >>123093548
You can't grind properly because of the yellow mobs but you can't advance the story to get rid of them because you're too weak. The start of the game is the easiest time to grind since the maps are small so you can stay there for a long time and when things become bad you can easily find the exit.
>>123086906
To the Anon that asked how we know how good Maggot Baits is.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNK7WZRVZtQ
Look how fucking edgy this video is. In all honesty though, I am so fucking excited for it. Also, I consider Clockup to be the best hentai VN developer. They pretty much consistently make AAA games. Hopefully soon we'll get Ero Manga translated, along with a lot of their other games.
>>123094361
>lots and lots of black bar rape in the YouTube trailer
Alriiiight. Looks like the average torture porn nukige, though.
>>123094361
Maggot baits name is so fucking edgy by itself desu. It reminds me of those old disturbing italian horror movies.
>>123094361

I thought you were just supposed to avoid them and do easy missions until they fuck off. Just do stuff like cleaning graffiti or whatever.

here, more censored youtube rape for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve1R55x_p3k
>>123095023
Sure. As average as Nukige torture porn is, this one is made by Clockup. They have a pretty good track record with their shit. Also, Fraternite was not that bad.

These japanese houses look really big, I thought the japanese lived in closet-sized rooms?
The more I got into a girl's route in Rewrite the less I like them.
>>123096267
Well, big open rooms are a symbol of wealth actually. Some clearly has cash-money.
This is the professional environment Sekai is using to repack backer goods for Grisaia. What a fucking joke.
>>123097272
>they are not in a sterile warehouse
I shit on SP as much as the next guy, but who cares as long as the product is delivered in the end in perfect condition?
Ok, quick question.
Which VN should I read next between these? I have on my pc
-Chaos; Head
-Da Capo
-Divi-Dead
-Remember 11
-Tsukihime
-Yu-No
if you wanna, rank them from top to least
>>123097483
Divi-Dead is the only decent one in that list desu.
>>123097402
It looks like they just shipped em to someone's house and processed them there. That probably is what they actually did. Absolutely no professionalism.
>>123097272

>>123097483

- Found boring Kana Little Sister, and REALLY boring Yume Miru Kusuri
So probably I have different tastes from the author of the recommendation chart

Heh. Everyone wants to read this VN.
>>123121463
Small chance of something like that happening.
Have any of you guys played the My Girlfriend is The President vn? I ask because I've been thinking about writing a game of a similar nature that features the generals from the American Civil War as kawaii schoolgirls. It takes place at Westu Pointo Military Academy. Some characters would be, a morally uptight Stonewall Jackson, An energetic Custer, a vain Stuart, a calm and caring Lee wanting to help the MC reach his peak potential, a Grant who appears calm on the outside but deep down is faced with a lot of demons the MC helps her overcome, I guess a no nonsense Sherman, and I don't know, a yandere Forrest? I know it sounds weird but I think with a lot of polish it could work.
>>123122068
Will it feature a scene where you rape a woman pressed up against a cactus?
How does one make the transition from visual novels to real novels? I've never read a real book and they seem kind of hard to get into, with the variety, depth and whatnot. Also the front page of /lit/ is all very old bearded man instead of cute anime girls.
Kind of off topic but I thought you guys would be the best to ask.
>>123122345
Maybe, probably, yes.
>>123122487
Just read books that are basically anime, like wheel of time.
>>123122487

I've gone through a couple of descriptions but for some reason none seem to click. I don't like most of that high fantasy stuff with elves and other "typical" Western books that seem to be very popular. A lot of the stuff just feels very disconnected from my interests and I'm not sure what genre to browse, like if I really liked Cross Channel, what book would I like? That kind of stuff. Maybe I should read something Japanese to feel closer at home culturally.
>>123122804

>>123109687
So how well would you say you understand the language in terms of reading?
>>123125061
>they don't
Dumbest thing I've heard this month.
The funny thing is that there is more creativity in young adult fiction and VNs than in actual contemporary literature these days
>>123124373
You should acclimate yourself with something fast paced and constantly entertaining like Catch-22 before jumping into the fray
>>123124373
Try reading Crusade in Jeans
It's very anime-esque
>>123124630
>>123124668
I guess I really like VNs where a "theme" is set and throughout the game it's played off of. Especially when it really comes together in the end. Big examples of this were C+C, F/SN and Sharin no Kuni.
For setting I tend to prefer modern settings. I have a hard time inserting myself into a fantasy world in sixteen hundred or whatever where people are riding horses and fighting with swords.
Non-VN related but I am a big fan of Ikuharas works and I also liked Romeos Humanity Has Declined.
>>123124765
Is that really so? The term always sounded to me like it'd target teens and people who read things like Twilight. I guess not all are equal.
>>123125851
>The funny thing is that there is more creativity in young adult fiction and VNs than in actual contemporary literature these days
Sounds interesting, mind elaborating further?
>>123126524
>Sounds interesting, mind elaborating further?
There is nothing to elaborate, good stuff can really only be produced with a true creative freedom.
The literature world is governed by other force these days, like didn't you see all the talks about the novel called City on Fire in the past few months, not because it was good or whatever but simply because the publisher bought its rights for 2 millions?
Both young novels and VNs are getting more and more standardized these days too though, for VNs the golden age of creative freedom was the 00's and young adult novels have been far too influenced by the few female oriented smash hit in the past few years
>>123126524
Try John Green. His stuff is pretty overtly direct, and it's mostly the type of slice of life high school stuff you get in anime.
You might also like Steinbeck. He's similar in his directness, but his stuff is set mostly in the 20's, and it tends to deal more with societal issues than the issues of a single person. I'd start with Of Mice and Men just to get a taste. It's pretty short and it's a good introduction to Steinbeck's usual themes and settings.
>The term always sounded to me like it'd target teens and people who read things like Twilight. I guess not all are equal.
You're not wrong with the Twilight comparison, but there are a lot of different things that are considered YA. In general it's just stuff that isn't particularly hard to read.
>>123126524
Young adult is a lot of teenage stuff or stuff that isn't particularly complex and hard to read. Rewrite, Fate, G-Senjou, Majikoi et cetera - all examples of young adult fiction.

Come to think of it, the treatment of Shizuku post A Nice Derangement of Epitaphs was pretty weird too.
In Epitaphs, pretty muchno new events happen, it just explains what happened with Shizuku at two points in the past. She doesn't need to fall in love with Naoya, she already loves him, since he sacrificed so much to save her.But then inHappy Prince and Other Tales, she kinda ignores him, even though the mentioned past events did still happen and it's safe to presume she still loves Naoya.
Okay, I know it's needed to to be like that to advance the story, but it still feels little weird. It's the price Sca-ji pays for wanting to tell a story with chronology like that.
>>123128296
>>123128793
Thanks, I'll check them out.
My problem was probably just with the term itself, "Young adult", it implies that with age one will outgrow them or lose interest in the themes within them, which isn't necessarily the case. I'll look at some in this category as well.
Is Akane's route the same size as other girls? Only read Kotori's route a year ago, and Akane was the only one slightly interesting
>>123129851
Kotori's route was probably the worst by far. Every other girl has a better route, even Lucia.
Here's the official Rewrite tier list:
Akane>Chihaya (More accurately, Sakuya)>Shizune>Lucia>Kotori.
Anybody that tries to tell you otherwise is a liar and probably working for the Jews.
>>123130283

Her route being shit is the reason I dropped it after that. I didn't necessarily dislike Kotori, but her route's story was just too retarded for me to care

The only thing the kickstarter mentions about after-story is re-translating it along with everything else, so unless there's some major over haul to the script I'm unaware of it's probably as is.
>>123195280
If they said in their kickstarter that they were re-translating everything, and it can be demonstrated that they did not retranslate anything, can they be sued? Pretty sketchy people.
>>123195362
There are screenshots on the steam page, those could be compared to the fan translation for the time being.
>>123195362
Presumably by the original fan translator yes.
As a consumer you can probably only ask for a refund.
>>123195362
It depends. A lot of these projects are done by licensing the original fan translations somehow. If it was used without permission, however, they could be sued in theory but the problem is fan translations are on sketchy legal grounds to begin with so it may not even go to courts.
>>123195362
You could do a class-action suit or something if they refused to offer refunds to people who donated to KS.
>>123195750
>the problem is fan translations are on sketchy legal grounds to begin with
Not really. In America and Canada translations fall under derivative work which is legal. The only thing that's not allowed is them distributing the game for free/profit. They can only distribute the translation.
>>123195750
No actually translations are 100 percent legal. You're only in trouble if you packaged the game with it. If a fan translator, particularly Clannad's Ftranslators, doesn't know that and believes what you said, they would easily have been "blackmail'd" into providing their translation and presumably re-working it also. Since they allegedly have re-translated everything, I would assume this is not the case.
>>123196075
>>123196569
Oh yea you guys are right. It's been so long since I looked it up but I forgot that translations are considered derivative work.
>>123196569
This is for the US copyright law.
Copyright law, Chapter 1, section 106
>Subject to sections 107 through 122, the owner of copyright under this title has the exclusive rights to do and to authorize any of the following:
>[...]
>(2) to prepare derivative works based upon the copyrighted work;
Which means if I publish something, like a book, then the copyright holder has exclusive rights to translate it, which is a derivative work.
But it can also fall under the fair use law. It's not 100% legal since it's in the gray area.

>>123098159
I remember when the DI anime was announced and I was still in the middle of reading it, anxious wether or not I'd finish it in time before it aired. Anime production sure takes long.
Fan translators should start relying on Patreon or something along those lines. Technically, it's not profiting directly off of copyrighted work.
>eventually paid as well/more than professional translators
>free of licensing restrictions, can choose literally anything in his skill range
>can tell publishers who want to purchase the translations to go fuck themselves
>the complete patches will still circulate on the net when and if they receieve a cease and desist letter
>can use some of the funds to hire hackers and image editors to speed things up
I think it would work, given that the translator in question is talented and makes it a full-time job. Partial patches, public QA and so on could be made available to the contributors, as well as a promise not to sell the scripts to anyone. He'd have to have a bunch of quality projects behind him to get the initial support, though. This will only happen in Imagination Land.

>>123200517
The problem is that "technically" only works if you're willing to go to court to defend your claim. Certainly it won't be good enough for the third party service that is collecting your payments, they'll drop you at the first sign of trouble because they absolutely want no part of any liability you might be stirring up. Same goes for Kickstarter. You can defend it as fair use or whatever all you like, but they are not interested in taking the risk by siding with you.
>>123201969
Does MG post their sales number?
>>123202417
Not usually, though sometimes they make vague comments about it on Twitter/blogs. (Or rather various employees do, usually not phrased as official MG announcements.)
>>123199774
>DI anime
Has there been any news about it?
>>123202149
It's no different than current translators getting donations from the community for their work through Paypal. No action would be taken against anyone using Patreon as a donation platform. The income would have nothing to do with the third parties. The only trouble that could arise would be if you didn't want to sell off your work, in which case you'd likely get a cease and desist order, which you'd comply with and move on.
>>123202886
As soon as one person complains, Patreon would lock up your account and not let you do it any more. I doubt they'd give a shit even if you said you're not profiting directly from it.
>>123202824

>>123202967
Of course they would, otherwise it'd damage Patreon's integrity, causing an outrage they don't want. Fan translators on Patreon is not a new thing. >>123218783
Good, it definitely should be better considering they're asking $50 for it.
>>123218783
It's quite well known that the fan translation was trash.
>>123218783
As far as I can tell that's just editing. Like, they went through the existing TL and edited it. I don't see any information at all in the new translation that didn't exist in the fan translation. It's obviously better but it's not a new translation, I think. One problem availing all of the vn community is the tendency to consider a translation the same as the editing which leads to errors in understanding, I think. Of course, we refer to the finished product as a "translation", so that's bound to happen.
Also, I think this video is 100% an alright, not great, but alright example of how writing is so important to the quality of a VN, even if a fan TL roughly captures the meaning it's far less enjoyable to read than just a smoothly written TL.
>>123219301
>As far as I can tell that's just editing. Like, they went through the existing TL and edited it
While that's possible, it'd be hard to tell for sure. The issue is that it's still the same source material so unless one side took major liberties with their translation, both are bound to be very similar.
>>123202886
If someone complains to Paypal they'll halt your donations and freeze your account as well. You're taking money for what's effectively illegal, but just not enforced most of the time.
>>123219663
The wording seems suspiciously similar for it to be a fully new translation I think.
Though I'm impressed they even edited it to the extent they did. I didn't expect it of them.
It's fuckn surreal having all these VNs going to steam, i remember waiting month after month for the original clannad translation such as it was, now it's being put on steam for a whole new existence.normies, reee.
>>123218783
I have nothing better to do so I started up the game to compare since I had it on my drive anyway.
The fan translation is more literal and follows the exact words used a lot more. The steam version is more of a rewrite.
In the pic, the Japanese version specifically uses the verb "stained", and the expression "a place stained with memories I want to forget". The fan TL is a complete 1:1, and honestly I like the expression "stained with memories" a lot more than "too many memories here".
>inb4 why do you post something that only you can understand
>>123219663
I translate some stuff. It's a fact of life that I cut out tiny bits of information, and add tiny bits of information, just about every line. Every line is a personal interaction where I process the line, understand it through my subjective lens, and then subjectively choose how to best word it in English. On the other hand, this is very clearly just edited. No new information at all. No different perspectives, no different interpretations. It's not bad that they did this. It's just definitely not a new translation and should not be treated as such.
>>123219864
>The steam version is more of a rewrite.

Seems like the original translation is a lot better than the new one.
>>123220319

I don't care how great the story in clannad is, i wont play it simply for the fact that the art looks hilariously bad. for 50$ the least they could have done was do the higurashi treatment and remove the ayylmao/UGUUUUU faces.

Key games all have such great writing and humour that the art, while an obstacle, becomes well worth getting over. Though, if one doesn't actually give a duck about Visual Novels, and just wants waifu simulators and pretty girls, then feel no need to read Clannad.
>>123222645

What makes me consider Key games to be great is how seamlessly the humour is infused... how effortlessly an atmosphere is created... I think by the end of the games the drama and characters kind of frazzle out, but the writing is still great, in my opinion, simply due to the atmosphere and humour. Key games make me laugh like few other games, and key games have such a cozy atmosphere... definitely great, to me.

I doubt most people that bought T2T2 had ever played the first game. It was pretty obscure. Also Uta2 has an anime adaptation which works in its favor here, and we also got that Dungeon Travelers game that sold pretty well
>>123229315
I actually adopted the same attitude when the Higurashi anime was airing, "I'll just wait for the VN to be translated"
It was nice going into it unspoiled.
How would you order the routes in MajiKoi?
Chris' route was the least enjoyable for me. Momoyo and Yukie was a fun read but Miyako's route was a bit disappointing. Wanko's route was the best.
>>123229219
The first Tears to Tiara was just a fan TL, and that series is much less well known than Utaware. The anime was fairly popular back in its day as well. while TtT isn't really. Besides, the first VN wasn't that good in the first place.
>>123229315
Well, Atlus decides to pick it up, it'll be announced in a few months and released after a year. Same exact thing with Tears to Tiara 2. This isn't JAST we're talking about.
>>123229458
Yeah, I think I'll wait a few months to see if an announcement is made, if not I can always marathon the anime at my leisure later if I care to.
the steam translation is actually good, I'd still reccommend pirating it because $50 for a decade old game is a rip off

What's so good about it anyway? Apparently it grossed 100 million yen already, which is insane for a small budget work.
>>123233087
A broken girl falls hopelessly in love with you. Pure vanilla. Good art.
>>123233087
There is no filler in the story and it's very short, so it gives you a rather concentrated dose of feels. It's just a great experience if you're into savior fantasies.
The amount of H scenes in MajikoiS it's starting to get annoying.
>>123229684
I don't know how this hasn't happened yet. How hard can this be? I bet it uses the simple form of CEG that is crackable in minutes by anyone who knows what they're doing.
>>123233357
its mainly the continuation routes.
The new character routes feel like the routes from Vanilla.
>>123233357
S decided to go full nukige outside of a couple routes, for better or worse.
>>123233463
People don't bother for small releases. Kara no Shoujo 2 DRM was trivial and it still took several days after the download was posted online for someone to make a torrent with crack.
There's still tons of Steam indie games that have no torrents or they're outdaed.
>>123233270
It has an ending?
>>123233589
The game doesn't end, but by the time you run out of scenes and max happiness it's already technically a happy end.

>>123233878
Yeah it's kind of killed my interest for a couple weeks so i had to break before i could just work up the interest to finish it. Pretty sure A dials it back, which is very nice.
>>123233991
I have been doing the continuation routes, I liked Agave After the most because Gen-san is a real bro
>>123233704
That was just the physical version, that one will have no DRM. CEG is Steam's built-in DRM system that's free to use. Most devs choose to use it because Steam's offline mode works pretty well these days and most people don't seem to care. I'd be surprised if SP didn't use it, they made no promises as to the digital version's DRM.
>>123234127
The after routes are all pretty much your typical fandisc after stories full of porn. That's the entire point of those routes. The Kokoro and Margit routes are also porn-heavy. Tsubame, the loli whose name I forgot, and Koyuki routes are all pretty much like normal Majikoi routes.
That's one sexy hospital gown.
>>123234371
>fandisc
Don't forget that this is Majikoi Sequel though
Unvoiced male side characters is like a huge glaring flaw in some VNs. They have like 10 lines, just pay some dude 5 bucks to say them, sheesh
>>123234371
>>123235267
How does A-1 start, anyway? Does it use the same system as S?
>>123235249
this bitch is crazy is, she was about to confess that she killed her parents and Reiji was like "wait don't"
surely letting someone with mental problems and a killing record is a good idea.
Just like Kyoko didn't accuse Yukiko so she could go and kill **** in the bad end
I swear everyone is fucking stupid in this game
>>123235476
Yeah, really wish Grisaia had a voiced Yuuji. It's not even voiced in the PSP/Vita ports.
>>123235898
Main characters is just a done deal, when it happens I like it (pic fucking related), but when it doesn't it doesn't really bother me; on the other hand, male side characters with 10 lines getting no voice just frustrates me, like c'mon it'd improve the VN considerably even if they got the janitor to do the lines.
>>123235898
edgy
>>123235495
you pick a route and enjoy a centered route on the character, but there's still choices and shit in said route. It's a fandisc I think, so complexity was dialed back a bit.
>>123236036
It irks me when the MC has just a few voiced lines (MLA). It totally killed my image of Takeru.

Guys, I've just started yu-no and have just finished the prologue in one seating.
How do I know when to use the jewels?

Use a guide
Unless you've played a lot of old PC adventure games, and unless you're willing to spend a lot of time solving tricky puzzles, skipping through text, etc, use a guide.
>>123236685
Not until the singularity hits, anon
>>123236685

>>123236628
The best place to use them is where you find items so you can come back and get them again.
Also don't read your dad's letter at least once.
>>123236905
With tricky puzzles do you mean unintuitive shit like clicking a thousand times and going back and forth to places a couple of times until the game decides arbitrarily I can progress?
>>123236926
You mean the instructions for the device in order to find that one jewel?
Also, what's a good guide?
>>123237124
Yes, that. I went most of the game without it and it made my life hell.
Pretty sure TLwiki has a great one.
>>123237124
Kinda. Yuno involves a lot of time travel so the tricky parts is that.
For example: at one point you go into a shed to get rope. The door locks behind you. You are stuck there for awhile. Bad end. The solution is to use a jewel before going in, so you can time travel before the door locks after getting the rope. However, without a guide you wouldn't know that, so you'd have to re-start from the beginning or wherever you left a jewel.
>>123237349
>games are no longer as hardcore as they used to be back in the day
What went wrong? Now ADV games are just click-to-win
>>123237349
I actually found the hardest "puzzles" in YU-NO to be the parts where the game expected you to talk to some random generic NPC that at all other points had just said the same shit over and over. Wasted hours running laps around the map until I figured out who I needed to talk to.
>>123237458
People had less fun with more hardcore game.
>>123237484
It's been years since I played, that was just the only puzzle I remembered that also made me think "wew lad".
>>123237458
Tedious backtracking is not a sign of good game design though.

I can't believe that there are retards that read visual novels without any sexual content. Like, what the fuck? That's like watching a porno where everyone is clothed and having coffee instead of humping.
