How do I play symmetra correctly? I keep reading that she's great but Im horrible at placing the sentries and the weapon feels really wonky. The only thing I've managed is placing smart teleporters but that hardly takes skill.

I had no problems playing her and found her extremely powerfull.
Try to play territorial, so when you're on the run just move to your sentries while running backwards and m1 people (it does huge damage actually). m2 is just good for spamming. Sentry placement is key. The best thing is to place them inwards on archways or door rooms, so enemies have to make a full 180 turn to kill the sentries.
