Why are there no natives in the commonwealth?
Aren't all natives just people that have been living on the surface but avoided wastelanders? Like mountainpeople and shit? I always assumed people just end up going aboriginal after 200 years of inbreeding. Seemed to be common enough even in fallout 2 that locals knew a native from a dweller or a wastelander.

It's actually difficult in the beginning.
I've been not using power armor because it makes even survival completely fucking easy mode. When you get to a high level it becomes easy regardless of if you're using power armor or not.
How good is it?
I have 2 ranks in heavy gunner and 1 in bloody mess.

Here are some of my experiences, because i played since the beginning on survival mode.
So far its fun, I had a little problems in the beginning because finding a good weapon or until you max a specific perk to boost your dmg ( in my game im using pistols, modded 20mm+50% dmg against humans and modded laser sniper pistol )
Get codsworth early on he is a great tank or dogmeat, they both do a great job at protecting you early on.
I even could beat that deathclaw with power armour and minigun, he was 2 shotting me so I had to kite him around the car.
Until level 20 I wasn't using any real armour, just got some tuxedo and fedora so enemy kinda hurt me ( usually 4 shots or 2 burts from rifle and i was dead ). Now im using minutemen general outfit and I can survival few more hits.
Enemy ( beside legendaries ) doesn't really feel like a walking sponge. The only "oh shit" threat level are deathclaws, mirelurks,sentry bots and assaultrons.
I also carry a missile launcher with myself and lots of mines, I just like setting up traps and baiting enemies.
The worst problem is that Iam always out of ammo, out of caps and I can barely afford anything. Not even rank2 scoundrel perk helps me. Right now im investing into the settlements, finishing 3rd I hope they will improve my income.

Honestly, fallout 4 gets the atmosphere down great. It actually feels like the post-apoaclyptic wasteland of a utopian futuristic society. It's just that it doesn't have the freedom to choose your own character or story which stops it from surpassing NV for me.

Removing gun condition was a mistake. There isn't even a point picking up every gun dropped, because they have no use other than selling for unneeded caps and can't be repaired into each other to reduce weight while increasing value of the player inventory like in the other games.
If you just take scrounger I noticed you only need to sell the ammo you don't use for mad cash, which has no weight, and so never have to pick up any weapons to sell at all.

Granted the BoS in 3/4 is the splinter group from tactics.
But honestly BoS vrs NCR was done in the lore, NCR won through attrition.
