Then do it. It should be trivial for a character with high intrigue. Just drop the caliphs one after another until you get a literal imbecile on the throne and then help the rebellions that will inevitably happen.

is that good enough to pick off caliphs or should I steal more women until I can get more than 41 state intrigue?
>>
>>122402865
Frankly getting an imbecile on the throne is hardly required even as is, since the new ruler malus generally causes at least one revolt, plus the huge levy malus on top of it.

You do want to help them, though.

Just check your plot power against the caliph. If the current one isn't too bad and you can deal with him, then the rest should be easy, given how they wouldn't have all the bonuses the old one had and will have a pretty big malus at first.

Also, would you be interested by some flavour on the bazaari (third most influential group at the time), the Persian-Anglo-Afghan war for Herat and the Constitutional Revolt of early XXth? Also, I'm thinking a bit of (limited) flavour for Indonesia, would you care for some?

The 19th century is the era of the nation state, Byzantium is, by definition, not one. Greece calling itself "the roman empire" and greeks suddenly calling themselves "roman" like they did would be far from nationalistic, and would be met with scorn by the international community, especially Italy.
Put it simply, the allusions to the roman empire both in Italy and Greece, are made primarily as allegories or metaphors. Almost an Utopy. The name of these states were invoked to provoke nationalism, not in the literal sense, with the exception of a few deluded people.

For the same reason other "countries" or such arrangements don't make any sense in the Victorian era. Like the Holy Roman Empire.

Have you changed the starting policies of the American parties in 1836 for the next update because they're in dire need of change, I've written down some suggestions I can post now if you haven't changed them already, as the current policies really are all wrong
>>
>>122411092
Nope, but AMM changed a few things so I need to take a look at that before I can tell you anything for sure.

I also need to redo the electoral vote, though it's harder than the Uk since they don't vote on parties but I guess using pic related will have to do.

Here's my changes to the party policies in 1836 USA, explanation is too long to fit in a single post so I'll add the final part onto this, my major issue was the Democrats being protectionist and the Whigs for free trade which really makes no sense at all.

Democratic Party
Trade Policy: Free Trade
Economic Policy: Laissez Faire
Religious Policy: Moralism or Pluralism*1
Citizenship policy Limited Citizenship
War Policy: Jingoism

Whig Party
Trade Policy: Protectionism
Economic Policy: Interventionism or State Capitalism
Religious Policy: Moralism
Citizenship policy: Limited Citizenship
War Policy: Pro-Military

Southern Democrats
Trade Policy: Free Trade
Economic Policy: Laissez Faire
Religious Policy: Moralism or Pluralism*1
Citizenship policy: Limited Citizenship
War Policy: Jingoism

Trade policies of the parties have been swapped as the paradox setup was frankly idiotic, the major divide between the two parties was their stance on trade, the Whigs supported protectionism to encourage American production and growing industry, and purchasing of American goods; leading to their popularity in the urban and industrializing North. While the Democrats supported free trade to support exports from the USA; leading to their dominance in the south which relied on their exporting of cotton, tobacco, rice, and other goods produced on plantations.

Economic policies of the party have been heavily changed too. Historically the Whigs supported Federal intervention in matters such as construction of the new railroads, and the economy in general, but not at the cost of free enterprise. While the Democrats were devoutly opposed to any Federal intervention in any matter be it trade with tariffs, or the federal government building new railroads and increasing taxes, again why the party was dominant in the rural south which was nearly entirely based on private enterprise and selling their goods abroad.

Aragon got their shit pushed in my Castille, giving me a chance. Things look a little less hopeless even though I had to take out a crapload of loans to pay for this.

Meanwhile Burgundy became the Emperor and promptly lost 4 wars in a row to France, who's now looking unstoppable and has annexed most of its vassals.
>>
>>122412194
Whigs have been changed from Full Citizenship to Limited Citizenship as the party was split between two radical sides, Nativisits opposed to citizenship for any migrants to the country with the exception of protestants from Britain and Germany, and the more liberal wing of the party in favour of extending citizenship, so I settled with Limited Citizenship with the rest of the parties. - Nativisits would go on to form their only society then party in the 1850s https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know_Nothing
1*Reason for suggesting Moralism is that in the North the Democratic Party was largely accepting of the Irish Catholics and received the vast majority of the Irish vote for that reason, and many local branches in Southern and Border state cities were heavily dominated or lead by Irish Catholics, not sure about making Pluralism the policy though, as the party was of course not supportive of religions outside of Christianity as with all the other major political parties of the time. Same issue is present with Southern Democrats who really shouldn't exist, and only are there to fill in a reactionary slot.

The thing is I don't know how you balance what's historical. I mean, no reason for the British to intervene if they have not sphered Afghanistan in the game. And if so, there are already mechanics in place to work out intervention so forcing it with events doesn't feel right. Maybe some events for Afghanistan to push getting sphered by the UK. You do have historical wars so I think I can make it fit in a nice way still.

I would like to make the choices of the Constitutional Revolt depends on your previous choices, for example concerning the ulema and the bazaari. One of the key moment is when protesters hid in the British embassy. I'd like two outcomes (amongst other, more classical ones like stepping down and getting a Constitutional Monarchy) to be possible with this: giving a Casus Belli to a great power to intervene (if the player decide to attack the embassy to shut down the rebellion for example) and getting a theocratic government (not far outside the realm of possibilities). What do you think?

As for Indonesia, it's minor stuff and not a lot of people will play it anyway but I'm thinking decision flavour about Pancasila, Konfrontasi, claims on East Timor, things like that.

Germany 1933 if you enjoy reading the flavor events and building up industry for a while. Germany 1939 if you want to jump right into the warfare.

Once you have the very basics down, try Italy or Japan for a full campaign. The Allied nations aren't terribly entertaining and I honestly don't recommend any of them for your first few campaigns. Soviet Union is also a good choice if you want a tough fight against the German AI.

A nation that starts with a CoT would probably be comfortable to start with to make the economy a little easier.

Switzerland doesn't have one, but it has very good(probably the best) starting slider positions.

France, Hansa and Aragon have 3 on the Serfdom-Free Subjects slider so those are pretty good.
Both have CoT, Hansa is smaller and France might be too easy.

Papal State start small and doesn't have a CoT, but if you join the HRE you'd be safe and you could probably learn the game pretty well with them.
You have a very high chance of getting cardinals iirc and they reduce infamy(mechanic which keeps you from blobbing too hard)

>Because Brazils future completely depended on some niggers getting free

You corno memester if he really cared about the country he would make the abolition as soon as possible and adopt an industrial policy led by Mauá, using the alforriados and immigrants as workers. But instead he kept abstracting about how autistic he was for keking Paraguay all the day on his court - sustained by heavy taxes and full of useless leeching courtiers.

>And because the republic is so much better hm,a coup every 20-30 years or so,marvelous
Of course it has a coup every 30 years. It's because the mess the empire done - created a culture of submission, concentrated rural properties under half dozen people, created fucked up local policies that came from the Paraguay War, preserving colonial cartórios and municipal structures and other things - are still present and help to perpetuate the mess. We almost fixed it on the 30s with the AIB, but Vargas betrayed them. Maybe we can fix things on 2018 with Bolsonaro backed by the middle class, the nationalists, the conservatives and the military, but that will be hard.

What event are you thinking about?

>>122427069
I usually let the mechanics handle it if I can. Giving a CB instead of war, for example. Sometimes the AI is dumb and I gotta help it.

Events in central asia pushing spheres around will interfere and frustrate the great game. Could fuck Russia over, for example. So I'd shy away from these kind of events.

I'm really a terrible person to comment on outcomes for Iranian history though, I don't know almost anything about it besides the basics. I can't judge how likely a theocratic government was (though today is a good indication that it could be) and in the future I want a more dynamic way (probably though rebels) for muslim countries to end up like Iran .

HPM guy, on my last playthroughs, I noticed that S-P is not getting to form Italy and often leads to stuff like S-P, Italy (formed by Papal States) and TS existing together for decades because they never reach GP. Can you check if anything is doing S-P perform poorly?

Or is it just my experience? Anybody seen this happen with a certain frequency?
>>
>>122439882
S-P is in a really delicate position in most games as it doesn't control a lot of pops. This will end up happening. Unfortunately, there isn't much ,pre I can do (excluding straight up buffs, which I'm reluctant to do), but I will keep an eye out.

>>
>>122439117
I've tried to bring this up with you twice but each time you leave when I ask.

Can you add the Cape Colony as an independent tag? It got a fair degree of autonomy (similar to Canada) and would suit a puppet government of the UK.

It would also make the Boer wars more interesting if it wasn't a British shitting on the Boers fest 100% of the time. You could make it so it's like a civil war, the Cape Colony tries to unite SA with British as primary and Boer as accepted and the Boers try to do the same vice versa.
>>
>>122440363

And when is that? Let me guess, """"""""""""""flavor phase""""""""""""""

>>122440363

OK, thanks, keep up the good work!
>>
>>122440363
When's the new version?
>>
>>122440416
I don't think SAF needs another tag and the boer wars would still be against the UK (since you can't DoW puppets), so I don't see any gains.

>>122440420

>>122440429
Thanks anon!

>>122440545
There's no ETA, sorry. After I integrate the american minimod V3 I will test it out and then I will have an idea.
>>
>>122440852
It's not about gains, it's about historical accuracy, the Cape Colony had nominal indepdence, similar to that of Canada until 1931, to claim the Cape Colony doesn't deserve to be in the game is the same as claiming that Canada doesn't.

Also, my point about the Boer wars is Britain commits it's entire army and often leaves a massive stack in Cape town so come the Boer wars they get rekt, that wouldn't happen, or at least not as often if there was a Cape puppet there.
>>
>>122441108
That's only in 1872 though, and the SAF tag takes care of that. Besides, not being a british colony would stop the flow of migrant pops.

In my experience colonial army commitment is a hit or miss. Sometimes the AI loses all their territory because they can't be bothered to ship a single division over, sometimes they send most of their army to french africa.
>>
>>122441518
>That's only in 1872 though
Same exact thing for Canada. Plus there's still over half the game left at that point.

>and the SAF tag takes care of that.

It does not. The Union of South Africa was exactly that, a union. It wasn't a British nation, it wasn't a Boer nation, it was a union. Before the Union there was the Boer states and from 1872 to 1910 there was the Cape Colony.
>>
Why does CK2 do such a poor job at simulating anything?

>>
will there be spanish-american war related stuff in the new hpm?
>>
hey HPM, is there a way that the genocide decision could add a "convert to my religion or die" kind of thing? It doesn't really make sense that forced conversions couldn't go along with genocide
>>
>>122441787
Actually, it's 1841 for responsible government (technically 49), which was the 1872 date for SAF was about.

Calling it "South Africa" or Cape Colony is the same (though a nation with "colony" in it would cause some problems).
Besides, when released from the UK South Africa is released with British as primary so it's effectively a british nation (and the cape colony wasn't a nation at all, it was a colony).

>>122441971
Events for that from NNM already exist. There's nothing new on that front.

>>122442018
I can't change pop's religion by event.
Genocide involves, necessarily, killing. If everyone converts then it isn't genocide. It also wasn't something that was used, ever, I think, because religion wasn't important for most of the western world. Not in the sense you are implying anyway.
>>
>>122442456
You're missing the point with SAF, SAF is the Union nation only, it was British & Boer, if the game allowed two primary cultures both would be primary, it was a union. But the Cape Colony was soley British, yet the British granted it it's own parliament and prime minister, therefore it was independent, an independent British nation in SA.

It's like Canada is Anglo-®Canadian and French Canadian, no one culture is dominant over the other, but if British Columbia seceded it would soley be Anglo-Canadian, just like if Quebec seceded it would soley be French-Canadian.
>>
>>122442815
So the point would be having a SA tag that is released 20 years early than normal with only british as primary and no one accepted, but instead of calling it SAF we call it "cape colony" (with the problem of someone forcing the UK to release it and we have the free independent nation with the name of "colony") that would live for 20 years and would potentially screw up with colonization just to change tag to SAF after two decades??
