Just got SWC3 and it's pretty good. I never played musous outside of DW so it's nice to have some new mechanics. Swapping between characters and having new objectives pop up all the time keeps things interesting.

Most of what I played of GE2 was set in Fenrir Far East Branch, same as GEB. Granted I only got like 40 hours in. There's also a mobile base thing. I'm not good enough at moon to decipher the story though.

Yeah, I'm not really following the story and I'll agree with that reviewer since there's a lot of characters and it's hard to care about them when they just start showing up randomly. I never really cared about story anyway, in musou games. I'm just in it to slay hordes of enemies and fight officers. It's done pretty well in SWC3.

Lets be honest here, Turn Based Combat is an archaic relic of the past and was never actually good. Ar Nosurge's combat is vestigial at best and piss easy. Little to no strategy involved and really only there so the player can interact with the world in some way other than just read text. The Atelier games a almost as bad, but the crafting makes up for it somewhat.

Perhaps there's "no strategy" to the turn-based combat since the mechanics are simple, but there is plenty of gameplay involved in setting up for combat. The battles require you to make good use of the synthesis for equipment and items. Especially for Ayesha's hard mode. If you don't plan out your gear, bombs and healing items, then it'll be impossible to get by with no strategy.
Unlike other JRPGs, grinding in Ateliers isn't an easy win button. The calendar system even limits you from doing this excessively. Levels mean almost nothing and crafting is absolutely necessary. All of the games are somewhat challenging aside from Rorona+ story mode.
For example, Rorona+'s postgame is another story and is one of the few difficult JRPG experience I've played. You're time limited to one year so your preparation time is pretty limited, and the bosses are way harder than anything you've faced before. You pretty much have to spend the last two years of the game preparing your best equipment with the optimum traits in order to beat the final postgame boss. In other JRPGs, you can spend all the time in the world to grind up for levels and equipment, but at least Atelier's system tries to limit this a bit.

I'm actually enjoying it a lot. I've gotten bored of DW since I was playing them since I was a kid in the PS2 days, but this one is a breath of fresh air. I like the objective system, and the "red zone" system where enemies power up significantly when you fight them on their territory. Makes the game a lot more dynamic, while in DW it was mainly a game of just rushing into the enemy's base by yourself.

Well, I just made my 2DS able to play pirated games so I guess I'll try some games some time. Played Phoenix Wright and Senran Kagura Burst with it and the console itself was somewhere around 70€ so it wasn't all bad. Collected dust for about a year though.

I've sold my NES, SNES, GBC systems and bunch of PS1 and 2 games over the years and I regret every single one of them. Just keep the system, you will thank me in 10 years.
