Also, has it been on sale recently?
Planeposters are at least better than CoH2fags, at least they're not incorrigible wehraboos
Why do I always have to use tons of infantry to have any chance of winning? Why aren't there any maps that are good for sitting there and tonking it out?
>>122283201
Because the growing lethality of ground-attack aircraft and infantry-portable ATGMs has put an end to the era of tank-column on tank-column warfare.
>>122272103
>implying DCS isn't a wargame and a sim at the same time
>>122284068
Combined arms *is* a wargame, just a terrible one.
>>122283905
Oh, I forgot the other one.
Artillery.
Massed artillery.
Pretty much every fun wargame I've ever played that covers modern-ish warfare tends to downplay the sheer destructive force of MLRS. In reality even a BM-21 barrage using cookie-cutter HE warheads will give tank columns a big headache. Look up combat footage from Ukraine if you have any doubt, you'll see wrecks of whole Ukie armored companies still in formation that were wasted by Grads.
bmp
So what's the verdict on Flashpoint Campaigns then? Worth getting during the sale with the DLC?
Can someone share a decent Chinese/RD deck?

The majority of towns are small enough that you can leverage fire support and/or go around. For those that aren't, you can still occupy the outermost layer yourself and make it semi-safe for your vehicles to go around without being sniped by ATGM or spotted continuously.

True from a certain point of view. Britain and France declared war on Germany, in response to German aggression against the Poles.
Could have stayed a localized conflict between Germany and Poland (and USSR and Poland), later turning into Germany vs USSR.

Long, slow barrage.
How are you supposed to use the ATACMS?
It's cluster so you can only use it against armour, and it's so ridiculously slow any armour will have moved by the time you aim it, or will move when they see the slow ass rocket in flight

>>122341395

>>122342415
the ATACMS is useless against anyone who isn't retarded.
203mm artillery will be 5x more useful in its capabilities, and can do the job of the ATACMS 95% of the time anyway
ATACMS is a shit. The only people who complain about it are slavaboos who can't micro their meme units properly.
>>122342651
Oh. Well that's that then. Everyone talks about it like it's the darling angel of the US artillery so I thought there was something I was missing.
>>122342859
ATACMS will usually get kills and when it does they will be very juicy ones. Even against good players it is guaranteed to make its cost back, but its hard to get much of an advantage with it and it is frustrating to use because it depends more on the opponent than you.
Yes its a unit that is 100% countered by perfect micro; luckily, no player has perfect micro.
>>122334364
Paladin is the worst "advanced" artillery by a ton, I think it's even worse than MSTA.
Paladin shoots a 5 round burst in 40 seconds, which is fucking awful. If your opponent is on the ball, he can counterbattery a Paladin on a "shoot-shift-fast move" command, since 40 seconds is enough for Smerch to aim, fire, and have the rockets arrive. Even worse, the 10 second delay between rounds is enough for trained units (like all support tab units) to recover from a stun and move out of the danger zone.
Just for comparison.
MSTA-S 5 rounds in 35 seconds, 7.5 sec/shot
CAESAR 6 rounds in 30 seconds, 5s/shot
AS-90 3 shots in 6 seconds, 2s/shot
Ondava 10 rounds in 75 seconds, 7.5s/shot . Ondava is another arty that isn't perfectly save with a queued move-fast.
Just for shits and giggles
Bkan-1C 14 rounds in 42 seconds, 3s/round.
So yeah, a single CAESAR/AS-90/Bkan shits as many/more rounds than 2 Paladins.
Paladin should be 110 points, MSTA/Ondava 120, and all the Euroshit arty 150-160 points. Bkan should be 1 card of 1 just like ATACMS/Smerch.
>>122311591
SU-24M and your own infantry.
For those of you who play DCS: How am I supposed to aim this thing? That is, what do I place on the aircraft I'm shooting down? The red dot, the blue dot, the yellow line? Or what? Sorry in advance for the bad screenshot quality.
>>122346340
>playing with labels
>not reading the manual
With an enemy locked (gun mode locks targets infront of you automatically), the gun reticule (spiky circle) will adjust for your targets speed, so position its center point (your red dot) on top of the target and you should hit unless he manouvers immediately

I'd also drop the Centurion Marksman and get a card of that HUMMV with the stinger's on the back, I forget what it's called. They're some of the fastest AA units in the game, and that means they have the potential to intercept a rush.

>>122350152
Might be just me, but I think SEALS are a dated unit.
They were fantastic when they were 25 points, but at 35 points they feel out of their league. 35 point Infantry tab SF don't lose to SEALS by much, but have twice as many per card. Even Spetz GRU don't really lose to SEALS, and they get amazing AT launchers.
Seals were just right at 25 points, at 35 they are horribly overpriced.
I would just grab another card of Rangers.

Peturbator. I like the 80's style synth with the noir sort of themes. Kinda fits the whole 'apocalyptic war' setting, like something straight out of terminator. In fact, my favorite song of theirs spoofs the movie.Sometimes I'll hop on ArmA with this playing, turn the clock to dusk with heavy overcast for the whole twilight lighting that was so generic in these sort of apocalyptic war settings in 80's movies, and just spawn a bunch of US and Russian units to go at it.

>>122376749
>On August, 6th of 1915 the 3rd Assault of Osowiec began. At 4 am, the artillery barrage began and the German forces also started using poison gases against the Russian troops. After some time, thinking that none of the defenders have survived, the Germans started advancing. You can probably imagine their amazement when they saw Russia troops making their way out of the dark-green fog came out the Russian soldiers. They looked horrifying: maimed by the burns, covering their faces with rags, coughing up blood… But they didn’t surrender and were actually counter attacking. The surprise of the attack and their terrifying appearance put Germans in the state of shock and they retreated. About 60 Russian men repelled the offensive of three German infantry regiments. This was later called by European papers - "The attack of the dead men".

Thanks, did some changes that you suggested.
There's been plenty of movies about soldiers on the ground in WW1 and WW2. But have any been done about a cold war era WW3?
>>122396247
Dr. Strangelove, it was supposed to be a comedy when it released. But after the cold war ended and we learned more about our nuclear programs, it ended up being more realistic than people might have intended. The movie is full of symbolism and also is quite funny.

The western front was actually mostly maneuver warfare until the conflict bogged down by the winter of 1914. If you take a look at the battle of Ypres and the race to the sea, it's mostly about both Allied and Entate sides continuously trying to outflank the other in a fairly mobile conflict which resulted in extremely high casualties.
>>122376891
>WWI is le trench warfare meme
Just stop jesus christ. WWI had plenty of maneuver warfare, especially out east. It's only maybe the last half of the war where everyone digs in and locksdown.

>>122383484
That's both amazing and kinda depressing. WW1 was still fresh in everyone's minds, and this cartoon came out with WW2 literally right around the corner. Imagine growing up as a kid in this time period, it must have felt like the world was ending.
Worth it?

To this day one of my all time favorite movies. It was both hilarious and quite scary now that we know what we do now. I can't imagine what it was like to see it in theaters when it came out.
>>122405409
Oh man, you want to talk about depressing?
Famous sci-fi author HG Wells was big into tabletop wargaming, he even wrote a rulebook of sorts called Little Wars.
Here's the closing section of the book
> And if I might for a moment trumpet! How much better is this amiable miniature than the Real Thing! Here is a homeopathic remedy for the imaginative strategist. Here is the premeditation, the thrill, the strain of accumulating victory or disaster—and no smashed nor sanguinary bodies, no shattered fine buildings nor devastated country sides, no petty cruelties, none of that awful universal boredom and embitterment, that tiresome delay or stoppage or embarrassment of every gracious, bold, sweet, and charming thing, that we who are old enough to remember a real modern war know to be the reality of belligerence. This world is for ample living; we want security and freedom; all of us in every country, except a few dull-witted, energetic bores, want to see the manhood of the world at something better than apeing the little lead toys our children buy in boxes. We want fine things made for mankind—splendid cities, open ways, more knowledge and power, and more and more and more—and so I offer my game, for a particular as well as a general end; and let us put this prancing monarch and that silly scare-monger, and these excitable "patriots," and those adventurers, and all the practitioners of Welt Politik, into one vast Temple of War, with cork carpets everywhere, and plenty of little trees and little houses to knock down, and cities and fortresses, and unlimited soldiers—tons, cellars-full—and let them lead their own lives there away from us.
>>122405974
>My game is just as good as their game, and saner by reason of its size. Here is War, done down to rational proportions, and yet out of the way of mankind, even as our fathers turned human sacrifices into the eating of little images and symbolic mouthfuls. For my own part, I am prepared. I have nearly five hundred men, more than a score of guns, and I twirl my moustache and hurl defiance eastward from my home in Essex across the narrow seas. Not only eastward. I would conclude this little discourse with one other disconcerting and exasperating sentence for the admirers and practitioners of Big War. I have never yet met in little battle any military gentleman, any captain, major, colonel, general, or eminent commander, who did not presently get into difficulties and confusions among even the elementary rules of the Battle. You have only to play at Little Wars three or four times to realise just what a blundering thing Great War must be.
>Great War is at present, I am convinced, not only the most expensive game in the universe, but it is a game out of all proportion. Not only are the masses of men and material and suffering and inconvenience too monstrously big for reason, but—the available heads we have for it, are too small. That, I think, is the most pacific realisation conceivable, and Little War brings you to it as nothing else but Great War can do.
The book was published in 1913

>They will never actually join the military to go fight, themselves.
>>122407359
Which is funny, because all you need to do to realise how shit real war is is simply pay attention to what happens in your wargames. When an entire platoon of soldiers gets wiped out by a single bomb over a ping pong village somewhere in a desert you have to be a complete sociopath or a sheltered child not to come to the conclusion how terrible war is.
I always get mad when I see

b) slavaboos who think the USSR should've invaded West Germany given the chance

What the fuck is stopping Russia from flying 10 Tu-95's into ISIS territory and carpet bombing the living shit out of those ragheads?
>>122408983
Out of all the games i've played PR and DCS are really the only one that capture how fucked war is and especially modern war is.
>>122417303
Real life isn't command and conquer.
>>122418869
I mean, for fucks sake, the burgers bombed the living shit out of vietnam with B-52s, albeit it didn't work too well because of SAM's and MiG's and such. But ISIS has none of that. They could legit get away with razing entire cities with dumb bombs.
>>122419193
Because the indiscriminate killing of civilians worked so well in Afghanistan right.
>>122419193
Probably because North Vietnam was an actual country with government institutions, military bases, factories, warehouses, etc. The US also did this because they were trying to pressure Hanoi to sign the peace treaty. ISIS has none of that shit so by razing an entire city the most you'll do is kill a couple hundred fighters (along with thousands of civilians), and ISIS isn't interested in signing a peace treaty anytime soon
>>122419476
>>122417303
Also, ISIS would be very happy to see somebody carpetbomb a city; it'd be great propaganda for recruitment and fundraising
Also don't kid yourself, Russia doesn't give two shits about ISIS. They're there to prop up the Assad regime in Syria, nothing more.

DCS question. I've noticed that when using FLOOD mode and AIM-7s, sometimes the AIM-7s will lose guidance even if my target is smack in the middle of the reticule. Is this because of ground clutter, or what? I've also noticed it happens mainly with planes about the size of a large fighter and below, but I have had it happen when firing at a TU-95 from the side.
>>122446174
FLOOD mode a shit, bro.
>>122446174
Apart from the fact that FLOOD is limited to a 12 degree cone and only effective at less than 10nm, you have to also take into consideration that the AIM-7 is also rather shitty.
If you really want to use sparrows, use STT in BVR mode, but in 99 cases out of 100, an AMRAAM will do the job better while giving you the freedom to go defensive or pursue other targets once it goes pitbull.
As i suspect you are the same guy with the gun question from yesterday, most of this is described well in the manual.
http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/250300/manuals/F-15C%20DCS%20Flaming%20Cliffs%20Flight%20Manual%20EN.pdf
>>122446609
Well, I was firing at targets that were about 5nm away, and they were in the middle of the reticule, which I assume means that they were well in the cone, but the missiles still went off target sometimes. I can't find the reason it happens, it all seems very random. Yeah, I read the manual, it's just that it didn't give me a reason that my AIM-7s might be missing their targets. I guess I'll just use the AMRAAM from now on, those Sparrows are irritating.
>>122447128
Assuming you kept them within the cone for the entire flight, chaff and/or general shittyness of the sparrow is the likely culprit.
The only real reason to use an AIM-7 over an AIM-120 is when shooting into a furball to avoid it losing track and fusing on a friendly instead, but this happens so rarely it is hardly worth taking into consideration.
>>122447603
Fucking happens all the time.
>>122447906
Depends on what kind of server you are playing on, but unless it is more than 1 or 2 enemies, closing to sidewinder range is likely just as effective anyways, without sacrificing long range firepower.
>>122446174
>>122447906
The AIM-7 can be decoyed quite easily by chaff and it also seems to be more susceptible to doppler notching at close range in flood modes. STT very rarely ever gets notched at close ranges so just use an auto-acquire mode and launch that way instead of flood.
The idea behind flood is generally to fire when your opponent doesn't really know you're there as they don't get a missile launch warning or a lock tone, if they can see the missile launch or are already evasive then there is no point using flood mode.
>>122451002
>as they don't get a missile launch warning or a lock tone
I thought FLOOD was just beaming as much energy as possible into a narrow cone?
Didn't this use to give out launch warnings left and right wether you fired or not?
In the very least, it should be easily detected by any RWR
>>122451376
In my experience people never start to maneuver if I lock and fire on them in flood mode. Maybe that's them just being retards but I don't know. I do this frequently enough though that it's not just me getting lucky and always finding idiots while doing it.
I have never had anybody attempt to maneuver when using flood, ever unless we're already engaged in a fight and they see me launch the missile.
>>122451565
"The antenna is limited to a 12 degrees cone that is flooded with continuous wave (CW) energy. In Flood mode, the radar never actually locks onto the target; rather, the seeker in the missiles homes in on the target within the Flood reticule with the largest radar cross section (RCS)."
I've got to do some actual testing, but it sounds plausible i guess?
You should show up on their RWR in the very least, but since you never truely lock, they might not think much of it?
