The problem is that 90% of people leave the lobby when the balancing happens, then people drop in and there's no balancing done.
People that join mid game gets to join whatever team they want too, instead of the server routinely balancing the game.
They have deliberately coded it to yield unbalanced teams.
If teams were randomed every time, you would see much more balanced teams.

Aura is pretty self sufficient as an attacking med. Her attacking style boils down to throwing her station at the edge, behind a corner and trying to collect as many heads as you can Terrible for healing teammates, however. Can be great for holding down points, like c4 plants.

I'm a lowly level 7 and my aim is shit.
Played Sawbonez every chance I got (haven't bought any merc yet tho, I'm sitting on 68K credit) and had bad KDR and was pretty much always 2nd half of scoreboard. This week he's not on rotation and I didn't really like the other mercs so I went with Aura since I have a silver H42 from that free elite case a while ago.
Now I'm constantly first or second on scoreboard, win or lose, attack or defense. Usually second if I have a 1:4 KDR or we're getting suppressed to shit with AoE and I can't put a station as aggressively as I'd want (usually means we're getting stomped anyway). What's nice with stations is they encourage team mates to converge and hold a point instead of yoloing across the map each on their own. I still have shit aim but occasionally I accidentally twitch one-shot a spark upon turning a corner. And then I get killed by an epileptic Vas with an MP400 in CQB...
Am I still useful to my team or is it just XP padding ? Should I still get a bonez like I planned originally ? Or get fletcher/nader so I can compensate my terribad aim with AoE ?
How do I use Nader?
Also how do you people have weapon switching set up, especially when you have an extra weapon like on Nader or Sparks?

A lot of that xp ends up being from health insurance. If you're doing well with aura, you can hold off for a while and get an assault merc.
