How fares your empire, /gsg/?
This day in history, November 12th:
1893 – The treaty of the Durand Line delineating the border between present day Pakistan and Afghanistan is signed by Sir Mortimer Durand, a British diplomat in British India, and the Afghan Amir Abdur Rahman Khan; the Durand Line has gained international recognition as an international border between the two nations.
1927 – Leon Trotsky is expelled from the Soviet Communist Party, leaving Joseph Stalin in undisputed control of the Soviet Union.
1940 – World War II: Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov arrives in Berlin to discuss the possibility of the Soviet Union joining the Axis Powers.

1942 – World War II: Naval Battle of Guadalcanal between Japanese and American forces begins near Guadalcanal. The battle lasts for three days and ends with an American victory.

why? haven't played EU3 in a bit but even just getting 2 or 3 merchants in Lubeck helps a lot as an OPM
>>122104750
They can't compete, I got 5 in Lubeck for a couple months but then they got kicked out and I can't afford to resend them, even with merchant adventures its 6 ducats per merchant and I make 4 ducats a year from taxes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_Universalis_IV
You know what to do lads
>>122104861
like I said it's been a while but what i always do is use my magistrates for a -inflation guy who should more than pay for himself if you mint as much as possible without gaining inflation (or mint more, you still have enough time to burn it off)
is Silesia not part of the trade league?
>>122105016
I'm in the Hanseatic league but I just don't have enough free trade to keep the merchants alive for now, and for now I don't have enough monthly income to make money minting, I make 1.1 ducat per month and a level 6 master of the mint is 0.6.
For now I'm just going to spend all my magistrates on theologians, the AI is hardcoded to hire them even if they don't need them to cause the reformation so if I pop out a level 6 it'll give me 5 years worth of cash, that'll give me a decent stockpile to spend on merchants once my sliders are better.
>>122105261
I didn't know about the theologians always getting hired, I think I tried making money with random advisors and it never really worked out
I definitely wanna try that as an OPM now, would you say it is better to try and only make advisors at 100% tradition or is it better to spam out low-quality ones as fast as possible?
>>122105441
I havn't crunched the numbers but I always save up, a level one only costs 2 ducats vs 18 for a level 6 and I think the AI will prioritize hiring better advisors so a horde of level 1s or 2s probably won't get sold.
Another decent idea if you're playing miscmods is taking unum sanctum for its war exhaustion reduction then declaring war on the crusade target and milking war taxes and crusade bonuses for as long as you can, unless you're in a position for them to actually fight you there's no downside.
>>122104995
Any more jewhans lad?
>>122105682
17 ducats really is't that much m8
I never played miscmods besides dablling in the dark europe or whatever scenario, but in vanilla I can easily make 30+ ducats a year as any HRE OPM just by minting
Does anyone have the link for that zombie mod for Vic2? I want to play something different.
>>122105978
Yeah but minting only gives you some of your monthly income, Mecklenburg, Bar or Holland with their cranked sliders for trading can roll in money right off the bat, someone who's merchants can't compete just won't have the monthly income to be able to do that, when you're at the bottom every 0.1 ducat counts.
Also Austria is now the Emperor, Bohemia is at war with all of Scandinavia and peasant revolts are slowly taking over all their provinces, they still have 30k troops but the time might be soon.
So I recently re-installed Victoria II, but it continues to crash during the load-screen all the time. showing pic related. I've tried re-installing as well as verifying integrity onn Steam, but it doesn't help.
Anybody know how to fix this?
>>122106607

Nice.
Selling advisors as a minor is pretty efficient. Getting the iconoclast decisison? I think you need a theologian and patron of arts for that.
-8% base tax, but like +3% cultural tradition iirc.
If you're on HTTT you can get 3 compete chance advisors to help with your trade.

>>122109164

>>122108486
Yeah, you just need a church and Church Attendance duty which was my second idea, the 50 ducats from that architectural development event let me build the church too so it all worked out nicely, then I switched my second idea to bureaucracy since in miscmods it gives you +0.5 magistrates a year to spam paintings with.
>>122107390
Narrowminded is nice but I don't actually need anything it gives me, stability cost is irrelevant since I'm so tiny and I'm not colonizing or converting anyone anytime soon, might as well take the extra tech.
Now that I have another slider move into free trade and a stockpile of cash I'm gonna try switching my ideas to Merchant Adventures and National Trade Policy and hiring a high level master of the mint, took a while to get off the ground but I should be rolling in cash soon.

Don't think of it as Silesia, but as the Duke of Silesia. He's a feudal lord, a proven general who just won independence from his liege and now controls a rich realm. Realistically I'd say goals from here should be trying to claim one of neighboring kingdoms, Bohemia is the strongest claim because of the former feudal relationship, Poland next strongest (Potocki is an old, powerful Polish noble family) and Hungary least but slightly justified because of its links to the Bohemian and Polish royal families and nobility.
>>122122946
If you can rig Pope elections youve already won the game. Bishops paying money to Pope isnt a big deal so just deal with it and stop being a faggot.
Well, now that I have Syria, I have all of the territory that I originally wanted. When I have more sons, I plan to give my western kingdoms to them and form an empire out of my holdings in the middle east. Should I add Mesopotamia as well to finally finish off the Abbasids? Or should I just conquer it and release it as a christian kingdom?

But you're not playing CK2, you're playing Bob-ropa Uni-Ross-alis. Your job is to paint your little heart out.Nice thought process though honestly, post more.
Today when reading the past DDs from Stellaris, I've thought about a little game to test our space-nerdiness knowledge of space fiction.
The rule is simple: in the first level comment, a description of a race based on the four Ethos available in Stellaris, which are:
Collectivist - Individualist
Xenophobe - Xenophile
Militarist - Pacifist
Materialist - Spiritualist
and other people will guess what race it is. Be noted that the race must have been featured in films, books, video games. Please specify if you put 1 or 2 points into the Ethic you choose (for example: Fanatic Xenophile if 2 points, Xenophile if 1 point)
(if you don't remember, you can read it here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/stellaris-dev-diary-5-empires-and-species.887487/)
You can use more than 3 points to describe a race, as I feel the 3 point limit of the game is too, well, limiting.
If you think it's a little bit hard, you can include a hint or two. It's supposed to be challenging but fun!

Way too late for that man.
Is MEIOU a good mod for Europa? Or is the lag too much to bear?
>>122125414
sorry if you've already said this but what map mod is that?
>Jylland Jylland Jylland Jylland
>Danmark Danmark Danmark Danmark
Fucking scandinavians. I'm rooting for the Kolans to form Finland too.
>>122125414
Luckily Poland and Hungary are crusading against the Golden Horde right now, and since it's a claim on throne war the warleader is still Bohemia, I might be able to end this without even fighting a Polish army.
>>122125617
DAO
Poopan guy, Lucca stays a puppet of France even after the revolution. Please fix.

>>122125909

>>122125591
MEIOU is good for EU3 imo, lag is bad but not unplayable desu
>>122119763
>EU3 combat is actually much more forgiving than 4 IMO, it's more based on morale damage than casualties so stackwipes are a lot more common, and there are no nation specific ideas so anyone can take Military drill to get double their opponents morale for the first 100 years.
There are a few nation specific decisions though that affect combat.
Like prussian and swedish discipline.
I guess that might be it.
I think Poland has less cav cost and burgundy has less merc cost, but nothing else that affects combat that much iirc.
>>122126214
What about 4?
>>122126368
If you're talking about MEIOU and Taxes I have nothing to say really because I don't play EU4.
>>122117967
Depends on which tech levels.
I think I did it as switzerland vs burgundy.
Their cav got double penalties by attacking into my higher tech infantry in the mountains iirc. I slaughtered a ton of them in the first battle, but was force to flee after a while. Turned it around later.
I have EU3 with all the expansions.
Is it worth getting EU4 or does it not make that much of a difference?
>>122125793
Well that was real fuckin naive of me, Poland almost instantly peaced out with the horde and sent 60k men my way, I took out two stacks but I had to take this peace offer, pretty cheap price to pay for a Kingdom though. Hungary white peaced out shortly after, it's just Bohemia and a few german OPMs now.
>>122126368
It's a very different mod, can't speak much about it since I gave up on EU4 really quickly after release but MEIOU for 3 was a total overhaul of everything, including the UI and how basic game systems work, it had a pretty big focus on historical accuracy, depth and difficulty, it was more or less the definition of a hardcore mod. MEIOU & Taxes just seemed to be D&T (the very definition of a casual mod) with an autistic map.
>>122123146
Why do you lads always ignore me ;_;

Rest of it went easily, I had a core on half of Lusatia from a border dispute event so I took it, mostly to cut down on their forcelimits more to make keeping them in the union easier.
But then my heir got sick.
The ride never ends.

About to start CK2 for the first time. What date is the best to start at? Is earlier better, or is the game more interesting during the crusades era or some other?
