/cbg/ City Building General

IRC: #SimCity on irc.rizon.net

--- News ---
Anno 2205 is out. General consensus is that it's a departure from 2070 and 1404 and should be judged on its own merits, not necessarily as a continuation of that formula, but that even judged on its own merits it can be argued that it's lacking content and coherence. It's not irredeemable shit.

Well when we were on /vr/ the newer games were tolerated, other than the occasional autist complaining about them. I don't remember many times where mods deleted or banned people for posting new games.

What's up with the AI in this game? The cars randomly stop in the middle of a roundabout for about a fraction of a second and then proceed with their route. My traffic has gone to shit thanks to this. And I have noticed that it only happens in 2-lane roundabouts. 3-lane roundabouts (built with highways) don't have this problem.

>>122147074
You don't have a driving license, do you? If you have priority, you don't have to yield or stop. Those who have a yield sign (the inverted triangle) till have to stop to let the traffic on the main road flow. Those who have a stop sign will have to stop no matter what.

>>
>>122147667
It might as well put an unicorn in the middle of the road, you stupid shit. If you set one road to yield to another, the cars will yield, not stop, not just drive in even if there's incoming traffic from the road with priority.

I felt the same, to some extent.

Firstly, get a LUT that desaturates and adds a more realistic colour tone. Then, get a lot of custom growables and ploppables that are more unique. There are a lot of buildings and monuments in C:S that are silly and unrealistic. Same goes for interchanges etc.

The rest is up to you, really. Create a realistic city of your own within the paramaters of the game.

Good luck.

It might not be massively deadly, but mother of fuck could a single well-planned attack disrupt an entire city for a long, long time. It shouldn't be that hard either.

How would /cbg/ cripple their city if they were a Snackbar.

cool, 'cause I'm trying to make some alcohol here, but farms are not productive enough and I have to bring some external supplies to make them good.

this is about to be a huge clusterfuck.

top part is the supplies/producing parts (it all starts with iron ore and coal, then metal and then supplies), bottom part is the alcohol producing part (farms of various kinds all feed into a single brewery, which will eventually produce alcohol).

right now i'm at the second to last step before connecting the two parts and starting to actually feed supplies to some of my farms

I find one 3-lane road splitting into two 3-lane roads looks pretty ugly. I personally like to conserve lanes when I design an interchange. So a 3-lane would split to make 1x2-lane highway and 1x1-lane feeder.

Then, further down the stretch, the roads can merge/widen as necessary

here's how the top part works at the moment.

tram lines (yellow lines) all feed raw materials into a single train station (blue circle)
said materials are then moved by train (blue lines) to a steel mill (orange square).

the steel mill turns said raw materials into metal, which needs to be transported via train (orange line) to a machine shop, which is off screen.

some of the tram station were close enough to the steel mill, so they feed directly there instead of an intermediate train station (yellow lines to orange square).

the machine shop will eventually produce two kinds of finished products: farm supplies and engineering supplies.
the first will go to the farms in the other part of the network, so it will boost their production and will allow me to produce some goddamn alcohol; the second will go back to the coal and iron ore mines to achieve the same result (and close the loop on the metal production chain)

sure.

I am also playing with a patchpack, which allows for some more advanced difficulty settings and generally adds a lot of useful stuff. Definitely recommended.
Latest version has been just released, but it is still in beta, the last stable release is one year old and works wonderfully.
here's the link (scroll down the page to see all the details of the patches included)
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=66892

FIRS and a compatible vehicle pack (which are pretty much all of them, except for the stock ones) is all you need to play with those industry chains; the rest (including the patchpack) is completely optional.
Remember to set the parameters right before you start a game with FIRS.

have fun and post results

>>122296218
I didn't get too far into it. Essentially, screw something at the start and you're fucked.
To build wooden doors you need to build a hand saw bench to make planks out of logs. Okay, seems reasonable. To make usable steel parts you need to first make a stonecutter bench, then, using stones made with it, a coal smelter (here you need to find some coal), and then you need an assembly bench to turn steel bars into steel parts.
As you can guess, assembly bench, saw bench and stonecutter bench require steel parts, so use your starting resources carefully.

As a given with the Rimworld Hardcore mod, I now HAVE to start with wooden parts, spare parts, steel parts, electronic components, and integrated circuits so I can just bumrush right to a Comms Console. Because HOLY HELL is it near impossible to whip out integrated circuits on your own unless you get lucky during the crash landings.
>>
>>122324167
Not sure if this autism is good or bad...
>>
>>122324508
It definitely needs some adjustments in the production chain department. It takes 10 integrated electronics to make a single circuit from the electronic factory unit. Don't get me started on how much sand, wires, and copper parts it takes to get to that number.

Honestly I just savescum crash landings and hope for every type of ship debris that isn't a radiation-poisoning reactor or prisoner capsule. But if you manage to get a fair number of survivors and corresponding prosthetics to heal the limbless ones, the grind is not nearly as bad afterward. Unless they're minstrels... in which case harvest their fucking body parts for people with HELPFUL talents.

Thanks a lot man.

I looked it up, seems they don't update version on nexus or the forum, but they have newer one on their site. 2.3a: Solaris
>>
>>122325405
Yeah, you gotta grab it off the Ludeon Forums since that's where all the updating is done. Your early game needs are gonna definitely require just constant grilling and shooting wildlife to satisfy food needs as well as stonecutting if you don't have a nearby mountain to mine into for shelter. Have at least two or three smelters going too, to make sure you have a copious supply of steel and copper bars. Same goes with assembling benches so you can whip out spare parts, steel/copper parts, and wood parts for your furniture needs. I usually just set the work orders to a minimum amount of each one.

Ever since I switched to Traffic Manager, Cities keeps crashing.
>>
I dont have Skylines yet but one of my most hated things in city buiildan is traffic/road network management, is there a mod or any cheats that negate that entirely and basically there is no traffic at all in your city and the cars and trucks are just there for show or something, I dont know sounds dumb and casual

You sound dumb and casual.

I don't think Skylines is the game for you. As far as I can tell, traffic management is the main challenge in the game.

At that point just don't give a shit about traffic. The game is easy enough that you can stay in the green

Thanks! People crossing the street really fucked my traffic with that road layout

>>122348906
Didn't use trains much in that city. I used subways and bus for the most part

How can I fix this?

I'm using a laptop, HD7970M, i7 3610QM. My GPU is only slightly better than yours, CPU is better in general, but I can't disable hyperthreading. Since my cores are divided, yours might give better performance. I have no problems with 45k right now.

Only ever use farms to supplement your food supply. Gatherer huts are pretty much the only worthwhile way to go,
