Some parts are done with RNG, some others have a defined pattern. The real difference between WoW and FFXIV is that FFXIV does not require players to have autistics levels of reaction times. Mistakes can be made. Easy to learn, but mastery of some classes may be difficult if you are not very bright.
All in all it is more a game than WoW, that resembles more a choreography dance.

I spent most of the wait for 3.1 thinking of ways they could incorporate the systems they already have in place into creative new content. I discussed the manymany ways the Diadem could've gone wrong, and how it could be good, but I still had very low expectations. Very low expectations, and the reality of it today was worse than I ever imagined. It was the most boring experience I've had ingame since I farmed 2.2 Hunts for my first i110 weapon.

Hunts let you upgrade tomestone gear from 10 iLevels under the max iLevel to the max iLevel. They didn't let you magically buy more tomestone gear than the weekly cap allowed.
Airship gear has no time gate on it other than the 2 hour exploration lockout, no hard limit on how many items you can get, and the stats on gear have the potential to be drastically stronger than raid and upgraded Tomestone gear.

If you have a 2.5 GCD this late in the game, you're doing something wrong as a player. Most jobs are actually 1.9-2.3 seconds with the slower ones being casters.
Considering there's almost always abilities to use inbetween, and that you should always be looking around the map for shit, it wouldn't help anyone to lower the GCD. I'm honestly concerned that 4.0 will lower the GCD even more.

Most people don't give a shit either way or just get upset when they see a new player. WAR is good if you want to tank, I guess. You will usually be asked to offtank, which means being in the spotlight for 20% of the fight and being a gimped dps for the rest. DRK and PLD are usually the main tanks. That said, WAR is a quite fun class.
AST can also be somewhat boring, their healing spells are quite generic and they only have their random buff system going for them. If you want to heal SCH is probably the most fun healer, and one of the most fun classes in the game in my opinion.

There are a good amount of DRK players, but it's not an easy class to play and a lot of them suck. You will probably be able to find your place if you're good at the class.
Also, only consider SCH if you enjoy a hybrid way of playing. They are capable of doing a lot of damage while there is downtime in healing, and are expected to contribute that way while other classes can get away with just sleeping while there is nothing to heal. That's what makes SCH fun, though, as you can always try to find more and more time to do some damage when no one is dying.
