It's a litttttle unclear. After all the hubbub, they went back and edited that line so it implies something different than originally. It's unclear whether it was an accidental slip, or just some french nuance that we didn't quite pick up in the translation.
Regardless, the guy is a Dontnod executive. Pretty much all the LIS higher-ups have stated that they want to make a second season, and they've said they've been throwing ideas around. They've been clear to keep referring to the five episodes we played as "Season 1". And the game was both a critical and financial success. By all accounts, a sequel will come. So it's possible it was a genuine slip, given that it's in-line with what the other Dontnod folks have said in the past.
Stay skeptical, but hopeful.

A flanderized character is a shallow and one-dimensional one. It takes away all depth and subtlety and replaces it with a single caricatured meme-like obverblown characteristic. It's not a good thing to happen to a character at all, and I'd expect real fans to go against it instead of feeding it.

1) The anon obviously likes the games enough to want to continue playing them. Their gripe is directed at one particular part of the game. So because ONE element of an otherwise enjoyable game is not to their liking, it's OK to justify the piracy of the full product? Even if they still enjoy the product overall? If the game is good enough for anon to want to play regardless of it's faults, it's worth anon throwing some money down. How much that should be is a totally open question. But otherwise, his justification doesn't make sense.

This game's mediocre at best. It focused on the story and the story was barely decent after concluding episode 3. The VA was usually pretty damn bad and the graphics left much to be desired. The gameplay had ONE gimmick and it got old after episode 3.

Except that's not how it goes. Piracy stats is used as a gauge to measure the reception of a game in the industry, you know. There's an excellent article on Kotaku (inb4 that site is crap; yeah, but sometimes there's good stuff in there too) about it, I'll see if I can find it when I get home).
If wanna send a message that the direction they took is bad, you have to abstain from playing the game altogether. If you don't buy and instead just pirate it, they'll think "The game is great and we're obviously on the right track, but we need to look into better DRM". That includes adding tacked-onto multilayer shit just to discourage piracy.

Because, despite getting prominently passed around the main community hubs, it was *only* able to garner ~5k signatures. That's not a lot given the number of fans on these sites. And it's certainly nothing compared to the total number of sales (heck, it's nothing compared to the number of people who finished the full game on PC alone, going by the Steam achievements).
They'll still be making a significant number of sales over the next few months and beyond. Why would they want to give additional exposure to a reasonably small petition that promotes the idea that the game may not have been finished completely, may have been rushed, etc, etc. That's not exactly good publicity.
I don't think we'll hear anything about changing the ending of the game. They've already stated that they have no interest in changing it. At most, maybe we'll get a "we'd love to create some DLC episodes, but unfortunately we don't have the ability to do this at the time". Or maybe it'll speed along a Season 2 announcement? And just throwing "diner/junkyard scene" together like that - despite being literally half the episode - is a bit disingenuous. Plus, Chloe is in almost every scene in Episodes 3 and 4 - so not only did you miss some of the key scenes, you're being totally misleading by summarising Chloe's appearance in those episodes as (pool scene, AU, investigation).

I only really disliked Chloe in Episode 3. She was a little annoying in Episode 2 but I warmed up to her a little in 4 and 5. I even liked a number of scenes with the two even though I wasn't exactly immersed in their friendship the way the game wanted me to be. But that's okay, I still liked 90% of the cast, the music was fantastic, the atmosphere and art direction were beautiful, and the mystery was exciting.
One of the biggest reasons the endings are awful is because it's all about CHLOECHLOECHLOE. I went into the finale figuring that even though I didn't enjoy Max and Chloe's relationship as much as the game wanted me to I'd still be happy to see them go off into the sunset, as long as everything else was resolved nicely. Turns out everyone else is literally worthless and I'm only meant to give a shit about the two characters who got the most screentime. Kate? I just realized how much I love the ending theme. It just popped up on my shuffle and I never really listened to it when playing because I was too busy thinking.
The feeling is invokes is hard to describe, it makes me sad because I know this story ended (And either way it has tragedy), but also happy because I know there is hope in both endings.

I was thinking. I've seen people saying how sacrificing Chloe is unlike Max or Chloe. But I think the opposite is why it's the wrong choice.
It's precisely how they've acted in the past: It's impulsive and they do not think things through.
Jumping to the conclusion that letting Chloe die is the same way of thinking as not calling the Police after finding Rachel, or stealing the handicapped fund from Blackwell. You immediately assume your actions were right, and you will only find out if that feeling was correct or not when it's too late to reverse it.
Max had no reason to think messing with time even more would negate the effects of the storm. And we honestly don't even know if it would change anything since letting Chloe die may have other consequences in the future. Max made changes to things before she went into the bathroom for the second time, which would still be alterations that would upset whatever balance the universe had. Letting Chloe die may have just delayed the storm's appearance.
Plus, there's the whole conversation about how letting Chloe die can be seen as a selfish choice since it's just erasing your actions so you don't have to deal with the consequences.
So the ending HAS been accepted here now, right?

Don't get me wrong, I love NV, but honestly the main story fell flat more due to engine constraints than anything else. I loved a lot of the themes and it had some stellar dialogue from lots of key players, but the battle for hoover dam basically being a large skirmish with like 14 people fighting really sucked. I still really like the connections between Chloe and the Bluejay we meet at the Prices. At this point, I think this is probably the safest bet.
But maybe the Butterfly represents Max? There is the whole theme of her wanting to break out of her cocoon, and the first episode is called "Chrysalis". It feels like it makes more sense for Chloe to have some representation of Max on her tattoo rather than Rachel, though you could make good arguments either way. The blue butterfly picture in alt-Chloe's upstairs room is interesting though ... Rachel is basically irrelevant to Chloe/Max in this timeline, so the fact that Max comments on it as if it's important makes me think it must represent either her or Chloe?
But then, if it represents Max, why would it show up at Chloe's funeral? Why would it lend comfort to Max?

I don't know that much about animals spirits, because there's no reason outside of this game I'd need to know, but some of the shit I've googled implies that the animals are related to totems somehow, and that you can apparently have more than one of them. And of course totems are mentioned in the game.
So it's possible, I guess, that Chloe could be both the Blue Jay and the Butterfly. Or it might even be possible that the butterfly could be the spirit animal for both Max and Chloe. I don't think it necessarily has to just be literally one per person.

MainNathan was very specifically fucked up about what happened to Rachel, not just generally bugging out because of mental illness and also happened to have killed Rachel. He's been mentally ill his whole life and got notably worse in recent time, with allusion to Rachel all over it.

There seems to be an "optional" part at the start. This might represent the extra puzzle we get if you don't kick David out. You need to trick him away from his tools by messing with the fusebox. Next there is a green/red branch. I wonder if this represents the decision you have to make after you steal stuff from Nathan's room. The game files basically confirm there was going to be an option for Max to actually acknowledge that she's a goddamn time traveler and go "Hey Chloe, Nathan's about to walk through the door, let's hide and avoid his ass."
As to the end, there was Jefferson's Car which was cut. In general, the last leg of the episode seemed a little cobbled together with how the logic of the writing suddenly fell through. Who knows what was originally planned.

We knew all that though. The close connection between Rachel and the doe was thoroughly established, and we always argued it's still perfectly reasonable the doe is Max's spirit animal. Rachel is the doe - she is dead, hence the doe being the only actual spirit. Rachel's spirit animal was theorized to be the bird, but it could very reasonably be the butterfly while the bird is Chloe's. That doesn't give us much.
Looking at some of the native mythology, we never really did wonder why the first episode is called Chrysalis, did we? It might seem obvious to mean that Max is starting a transitionary journey, but it could also allude to Rachel coming back in another form into the world, at least going with Hopi interpretation. Butterflies also are said to induce dreams.
But the blue jay as the "trickster" of the spiritual realm would fit her nicely as well, using the visions and nightmare to manipulate Max into doing what she wants.

Obligatory is a pretty good description. Everything about the hilltop scene just felt so cynically recycled. "Tragic" finales seem almost like a popular gaming trend right now in much the same way as sewer levels or QTE climaxes. I'm not against linearity but a rigid binary choice to determine the ending is just insulting in 2015.

I'm wondering if removing the tornado would have been a good idea. It might arguably rob the climax of dramatic tension but it's hard to envision a way to fight off something like the storm without pulling some time travel retcons. If it were to be kept in there's no question that it needs a new origin beyond babby's first theory.
Really I think it might have been a mistake to introduce the photo ability as well. It introduces some neat ideas with the William and SF timelines but it doesn't do that much with them and they don't actually contribute that much to the story. Episode 5's overuse of the ability created an incredibly disjointed adventure compared with the preceding episodes.
Nathan should have been kept alive and choices involving him (whether you reported the gun, blamed Nathan and let Warren beat him) should have played a vital role in the episode. Other big things like Kate and Frank's deaths/survival and warning Victoria should have also played a bigger role.
Episode 4's final act should have been rewritten as the entire revenge plan comes across as a poorly thought-out set-up to Episode 5's photo hopping dilemma. Max should have been kidnapped in a way that doesn't make her and Jefferson both look stupidly overconfident, and Chloe should still be alive.

It's interesting that both locations that were completely cut from the game - 'Hospital' in episode 5 and 'Jefferson's Car' in episode 4 - were reused elsewhere ('Hospital' switched to Kate in ep4, 'Jefferson's Car' given to Max in ep5), like they had the locations at least partially done and wanted to find a way to make use of them.
It also sticks out that once Nathan is revealed as just a pawn, Chloe doesn't have to deal with that at all. Instead of the "holy shit, the guy who's been your arch nemesis this entire time is just a pawn and dead, this changes everything," revelation it should have been, it's just "sit your suicidal ass down and listen to Max," dialogue puzzle.

How do you think Jefferson could be improved? My only big issue with him is the absurd amount of luck on his side on Thursday and Friday. This trend started at the end of episode 4 and I instantly knew this was gonna turn out very lackluster. I don't believe they cut some great story they initially had to pieces or anything, but I do think with more time they could have had a more appropriate execution. It's the other way around for me actually. I can accept the course of events playing in his favour as having to do at least vaguely with the whole destiny thing. Á la it was Max's task to take him down and so on. Of course, the stupidity of everyone involved including Jefferson can be infuriating, but primarily I was upset with how his "dark room" self wasn't developed at all, and just how blunt it fell out well.
Yes, I guess him taking the jacket off and being his "selfie" in the dark room is a thing, but it didn't feel at all as if he was wearing a mask outside of the room that he then took off; if anything it was his dark room persona felt synthetic and put-on.

On the other hand, him subtly slipping into his dark roomy behaviour throughout the game could have helped it not feel so forced and abrupt for the eventual reveal. As it stands, he seemed like a calm, genuinely concerned and aware teacher figure. Sure, he had a bit of an off vibe, steming even just alone from how out of place he seems, but things like the interaction with Victoria in episode 3 or Kate in episode 2? Are we just supposed to believe he somehow noticed he was being watched for those? Because there are moments there where he is genuinely upset.
If they had him subtly switch to that pervy voice or things like maybe one or two more stern comments in that phone conversation for example ("No, I have a class to teach; time to hang up!"), a twitch of of his eye or something in his face in response to Max not handing in her picture, ... just something to hint at his more impulsive or brutal alleged "true" self - then maybe it would have felt more auhentic. Or you know, they could have had his dark room persona not be as much of a 180 and have him be the controlled and controlling sociopath that many took him for since episode 1. No idea why they decided to make him so irritative and vulgar.

I'm more inclined towards this, myself. I really enjoyed the subtlety in him before the reveal.
But even then, a 180 COULD have worked if it was simply done better. Look at Ted Bundy, the man was an absolute charmer in public, but a ferocious fucking animal when it came to his victims. He even went from being a semi-under control serial killer to suddenly going on a vicious murder bender - which has its own similarities to Jefferson's weird little spree in ep5.
The problem is the execution is so confused and devoid of any purpose, structure or soul that it just feels neither here nor there.
I'm not ready for the death of lisg. I'm still not over this game yet.
