Have you even seen the other generals? Whether they're posting porn of underage characters (pretty much any Nintendo game) or raging about because someone ganked them in a laggy online game (Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Monster Hunter) or they're too busy jacking off to waifus (Katawa Shoujo and more recently Undertale).
Here the thread may be dead, but everyone is generally respectful and there's some decent OC created. Plus, we actually talk about video games instead of ecelebs or twitter posts.

Nobody talks about gens 1, 2, and 3 outside of comments saying what ACs and pilots are cool because we know everything there is to know about those. /acg/ isn't just dead, it's stagnant. At least people can be honest here. If you said anything negative about a game in its respective general, there'd be a million shitposters, followed by your post being removed. I consider being able to dislike an AC game as a positive to the people who frequent this thread.

Recalling old battles doesn't add any worth to the general, and isn't indicative of what is posted here often. It's only relevant to the few here who still remember those happenings.
The thing about anons saying they dislike those gens is that it's shitposting whenever it's brought up, and limits good discussion. They never say what's wrong or what could be fixed, just that they're shit because they say so. It's par for the course on videogame related boards though, so I probably shouldn't have even brought it up.

Well, by the nature of AC being purely a mech action game with high min/max potential, it will never be popular enough to have anything to do with e-celebsor even just popular to begin with. I think there are only two uploaders on youtube that focuses solely on AC, and you can probably imagine how big they are.

The weird part is that the major marketing campaing was for DaS since DeS remain more a cult game that was also a PS3 exclusive, I know the mouth-by-mouth effect, but that effect kicking in with the phrase "hardest game ever" for the casuals? I can't belive it worked.

DS2 isn't nearly as consistent as BB, I personally didn't enjoy it but there's a lot of content in it, much more than the previous two. It's your call, I'd say the positives of DS2 are how long it is, improved magic, bows, and dual wielding, and NG+ actually having new or altered content. I'd say get it if you're not holding out for anything else.

Who's the worst villain in the AC games?
For me it's a tossup between Genobee/Crest in Nexus, Zinaida in Last Raven, Maximillian "Joke's on you I was only pretending" Thermidor in For Answer, or Sera Cross/IBIS in Sirent Rine

Zinaida is really the perfect rival and waifu at the same time. Especially if you played the JP version of ACLR. That cold and determinded voice and indifferent about the incoming war between the Alliance and Vertex. Her eyes are set on you and there's only one way to see who is the real Dominant and obtain the title of Last Raven.

I think they're the best contenders for the weakest villains. They were basically robots motivated by greed, and thanks to translation errors, we never even got that much of the story here on the west side. Something about Agraya and Navis and then everything goes dead.

I thought Zinaida was fitting as an interesting villain. She didn't do anything out of some pessimistic spite or mustache twirling evil. She just wanted to be the best, which meant killing every other raven so she would be the last raven. To be fair, you did the exact same thing in the game, so who can blame her?

I'll never forget the final encounter with Zinaida. It lasted around 30 seconds but it was one of the best moments of any game for me. The skill, concentration and dexterity during those 30 seconds, I felt more alive than ever. Fallout brought back their robot too for the last cutscene. It's also surprisingly stupid. These damn companies keep making robots as nothing more than accessories. Pisses me off brah.
Consoles cannot into robot games, or even robots in their games. Only Armored Core and a few others could do it decently.

1. A good mech game could incorporate both of those things, and mechs needed more customization. Look at the latest trash like Xenoblade X and Fallout. Mechs have become nothing more than accessories and glorified power suits. You can't even change their parts.

That's such a pity, because a power suit could work, but everyone just makes it a soldier that's slightly bigger. It SHOULD be a walking weaponized platform that stops being a threat only when you blow off all of its limbs and blast its core to pieces.
But I wouldn't expect bloated triple A gaming companies to understand this. Yeah, just keep casualizing the gameplay. Throw in some violence, some tits, some swearing white gruff males, some pretentious anime teens with snarky one liners. Don't worry about the cool robots. Having played mechwarrior games, it sounds better on paper than in practice.
I thought titanfall did a good job of making the giant man feel different than the small man by swapping out jumping for dashing. Its a shame it didnt have a campaign though. Needed more variety too.

But is that necessary ingame? I don't see why we even need people in video games. We were better off with robots and power suits, which took almost no time to model, didn't need super realism or billions of polygons, and through their simplicity were better off because they looked cool.
This is something I often harp on. It takes 1,000,000 polygons just to render a human on modern computers. It takes only a couple thousand at most to model a robot. Even the more fancy technical ones. This is because they can work better with basic shapes and outlines, and they don't need to spend billions on realistic hair follicles.
That's just my 2 pennies on the topic anyway. And they're both scrubs.

EN Conductivity does play a large role in boosting. Basically, the higher the number, the faster your boosters accelerate. Means less time to get up to top speed while normal boosting, or glide boosting. Also means a shorter high boost animation, which will also cover less ground, as well as faster kicks. Having a high EN Conductivity isn't always better, though, so mess around, and see what works best.

Normal boosting, it's not that noticeable, unless you're using high power boosters. But you'll notice that you move slower, and slide around a lot more when turning sharply, than when you've been moving in a straight line for a bit.

LBP can work too, I use them along with sniper rifles as well. In fact, my primary AC is a high mobility LBP sniper + physical blades. The downside to this is that LRJ's can do everything an LBP can do but better. (Higher jump strength, similar/faster speeds, better stability etc.)
You're like me in that the look factor is the deciding reason that you choose to use LBP over LRJ, and that's perfectly fine. Just giving you a heads up that it's going to be much harder.
Anyways, there's 2 things you can do with the sniper rifles, but since you're not using LRJs, I would suggest using the Glance (200 lock speed quick-lock FCS) with 2 subcomputers to take quick shots at enemies while jumping between cover. As a sniping AC you don't want to be caught out in the open or dueling someone head on, cover combined with mobility is going to be your best friend, and you need that quick locking FCS to get your shot in quick and get behind something to break the enemy's lock.
If you are caught in the open, your shields will give you a little bit of a buffer, but don't rely on them too much.
There's also blue locking (firing your snipers before the your FCS fully locks on with the red box) but it's pretty difficult to pull off properly.

Adding onto that,
Stagger your sniper shots, fire the left one first and a split second later fire the right one, this way you can ensure that you can inflict an armor break on an enemy (since snipers have a large impact force, they can usually inflict the armor break status on an enemy) with the first shot so that the second shot will do increased damage. It's also a way to increase the chances of at least one shot landing on the enemy if they use evasive maneuvers. Try your best not to fire both guns at the same time.

Well, here's what worked for me.
You have plenty of time, so advance at a very slow pace. Just hunker down and kill everything that goes aggro before moving on. There will be times where you'll just spend several turns in a row recovering everyone and that's just fine. Take your time. Just, not too much time because you're technically on a time limit even if I've never felt any kind of pressure from it.
Maximum style points if you break the boss's weapon and legs, wire him, kill his soldiers, bring him down to double digits, and then have Weizegger come in to finish him with the 100% shot.

Hey /acg/, I've never played an Armored Core game but I want to get into the series.
Is there any game in particular I should start with? Are the game's stories connected at all?

That depends on what you want to believe. All that's official is that Armored Core - Another Age are connected, 3 - Last Raven are connected, and 4 - VD are connected.
I'd recommend starting on the PS2 games as they make up the brunt of the series and so knowledge from one will work with the others, mostly. 2 and 3 work well for starting. Nexus is also a good starting point, but you might get spoiled by the functional controls.
4 also works as a starting point due to how drastically different it is from the games that precede it. V also works by this logic, but the single player is kind of mediocre and the servers are dead. You can skip it for VD if you want, but then you miss out on Chief.

FA 360 is a mystery. I wouldn't be surprised if there are still people who play it, but I can't tell you for sure.
FA PS3 is pretty dead, but you can definitely find some random people on at random times of the day.
VD 360 is super dead and you don't want to get caught in the crossfire that is that server's state of affairs.
VD PS3 is really dead but sometimes, especially on weekends, you'll find a few people playing. Heck, just this last Friday there were at least eleven people online all at the same time.

Of the biggies this year I haven't played Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Blops III or Bloodborne. Also missed Transformers Devastation which I was keen for.
Haven't finished MGSV but I rank it high. Halo 5 was nowhere near GOTY but the multi is actually pretty fast and fun. Had a bit of fun with Rocket League too and of the stuff yet to come I expect JC3 to rank high. Also Monhun 4 that I haven't been able to play anywhere near as much as I've wanted to and had to wipe what little I had in re-buying after my brother borrowed it indefinitely.

The only current year game I've played is MH4U, but I don't know if it would be my GOTY. It started fun, but later the grind kinda put me down (granted, if I liked an armor I'd hunt a thousand times a monster to drop the materials) and I haven't played much MP. I still have a long way to go though. Still it's much MUCH better than all the other hunting games I've played this year (though Soul Sacrifice's story is one of the best in the history of vidya).
That leaves me with old and not that old games that I've REALLY enjoyed this year: Raiden IV, Armored Core 1 & 4, Ring of Red, Danganronpa 2 and GT6

Show him the Overboost button.
Show him the Limiter Removal combination.
Show him Overboosting during Limiter Removal.
Try to beat the L2 and R2 directions into his head early, that crap can be hard to memorize.
Demonstrate that doors are opened with circle.
Explain how relation missiles work.
