Most of S2 is good. Island, Graveyard and Desert has some really good bosses, although they kinda ruined Island and Graveyard by repeatedly nerfing them. Misty is meh though. S2 raids are good too, Iset and Crom are one of the best raids in the game, Havan, Enzo and Panth. are fun, easy battles. Only bad S2 raid is Bark, even Kraken and Laki. are kinda fun now and then. Only bad thing about S2 now, is that everyone is way overgeared, no fun in a full party.

I feel like they have radically changed the game over the years, sometimes for worse, sometimes for better, but they have tried so many things, that I don't think there's anything remaining from the "very start". Only problem that remains, is what people call "unresponsive controls", which has been true to a varied extent.

NA is worse at places, CN is worse than both, even KR is worse at some places.

If you're complaining about restricted boats, then join a decent guild. You're judged by numbers, because there's nothing else to judge you by on a public boat. Geared random > poor random.

A decent amount has to do with the different directors the game has had over its life. The first one got promoted to work on a more important game due to the success of this game and was replaced with the next person in-line, a guy infamous for turning every game he touches into shit. IIRC his reasoning for adding +11-15 weapon enhancement was that it would help out new players.
The weird balance stuff has a lot to do with them ignoring test server feedback for a long time coupled with going from testing with set gear, where everyone used a +10 Ivory, Hilder set and had no titles, to whatever gear players had on live servers. All that resulted in a cascade of dumb decisions that eventually got removed via nerfs months later anyways like Kraken and Lakoria def buff,S2 dungeons, and "real" jump. There's a lot of half assed stuff that will probably never get finished or really fleshed out due to things like this. Keep in mind when asked if armor would deviate from being plate+strength and cloth+int their response was anything else would "be too much work" since they would have to rebalance all sets in the game.

I always thought it was funny that your character always turns clockwise by default, the only way to override it and turn left is by holding forward and using the mouse to the adjust the camera. Only ever an issue while using Vella's old crosscut since the cinematic camera shift made it hard to compensate for it.
So with the Karok Update probably already hit Korea (if they kept to their schedule), when can we expect that to hit the West?

How can season 1 raids be so good and how can season 2 raids be so bad
So i'm completely tuck right now. I'm at level 77, and now to level i've gotta do raids alright. but every fucking group only accepts people waaaaaay above the raid's reccomended level to do it faster and there is absolutely no one trying to do them that is around my level, it's just 90s. I love this game and i really tried my best to understand it and get good at it but this is getting frustrating.

I feel awful for people in your position, on their first character and trying to get equipped with 80 gear. The power gap between 70 and 80 level gear is so large that people don't really want level 70's on their boats, because it makes that much of a difference in the boss fight.
The best advice would be what >>121157406 has given you, try leveling up to 80 and then use your seals of bravery to help you craft an 80 weapon as soon as you can. I'd skip the armor until 90, because 90 armor is far cheaper than 80.

Currently downloading since the combat system seems more engaging & involved compared to other MMOs my friends usually get me to play. I thinking of playing as Lynn unless there's some characters I should avoid.
Any tips or things I should know before getting started? I guess one big question I have is how is equipment progression in this game? Should I not worry about it at all until high levels?

yes
don't spend unnecessarily until 80+, you have to worry about gear only around lvl70
you are good to go with any random trash equip until lvl60s
don't buy items +9/+10 and r9 scrolls or higher if you don't want to keep it for a long time, it will bound to you
main concern will be only the weapon (and at 70+ accessories too)
armor is just what isn't too expensive, def won't save you anyway

there are worse and better chars (in terms of dps and how fun/boring or easy/hard to play they are)
but none of them are terribly bad, just go by gameplay vids
also, the battles will be more about bossraids than mobs in the endgame, so isn't neccesary to decide by how the char goes against mobs
If you leveling, do the quests too, main quest and many side quests give meaningful xp
many people quit because there is a high jump at 80-90 in gear and requirements being put on boats, but with time this can be overcome (unlike other mmos, lvling isn't takes that long, but getting good gear does)

I don't know if you're still here but here's my pro tips.
Play through the game normally as if it's a single player action game. Around level 45-50 is when battles start to get difficult and you'll want to party up with another person.
You don't need to spend money on new armor until things start to 2shot you. This will happen around later levels 40, 50, 60, 70, etc. Weapons are the same--try to upgrade your weapon every 10 or 20 levels. Equipment should be fairly cheap on the auction house and most of it doesn't bind to you so you can sell them afterwards.
My last advice is to look up videos on youtube of your character. Videos like raid solos or speed solos give you a slight hint of how the playstyle looks like at endgame.
You're also welcome to join your respective server's /vg/ guild and ask questions. We're usually friendlier than other game communities.
Not even Dr. Manhattan himself can save it.

It's quite easy to level up solo, if you drop down the difficulty to Easy later and don't mind grinding a bit. But to farm any worthwhile content you will have to group up.

Regarding skills, AP is unlimited and you will max all of them, but it will take a long time, so prioritize skills that unlock abilities and skills that increase damage by a percentage, instead of skills that give a fixed benefit. Smash Mastery, Critical Hit, Battle Respiration, HP Potion Proficiency and Life Flare are good, rest of the common skills can be ignored for a while, except for weapon & armor Proficiency skills as needed. With Lynn, you have to level your skills to a certain rank, to unlock the ability to make golden orbs with the right timing, which is very important and what Lynn is all about. Lynn has a lot of SP skills, but focus on Flying Snow and Jade Fox for now, rest are more or less situational and arguably they can be ignored entirely.

1. Install Bitvise to connect to a proxy
2. Create a free 3-day account on fastssh.com (it's quick)
3. Config Bitivise to use that proxy and open a port on your own machine to use it
4. Use Proxifier Portable to direct Vindictus.exe port 27015 to the port you opened with Bitvise
5. Play game
Sounds like a pain, but it's pretty easy and you do it only once. Except for the account on fastssh which you need to create again every 3 days.
By redirecting only port 27015, you still keep a p2p connection to other players, which prevents you from lagging too much.

Sure. Getting better and better equipment is what the game is about... it's a MMORPG after all.

Kinda. It's not a competitive game to begin with and if you want to do top damage, then which character you play matters a lot. But sure, it's a lot easier to gear up, if you don't mind spending money, it's a F2P game after all. Not sure how it is in NA, but plenty of people play at a "competitive" level without spending any money on EU (Tir and NX gifting).

Although, it's less repetitive now than ever, because they didn't make S2 content obsolete, like they made S1 with S2 release. Now you have to do S3 for weapon and armor and S2 for accessories and enchants. On EU, S3 maps are the most profitable content, then S2 raids, while S3 raids are only in 3rd place.

They added Easy mode and S1 gives more EXP, leveling is a joke, can be done in one or two weekends, that's not necessary bad, but yes... But the biggest change is in character design, they make characters easier to play - give them better survivability, more mobility and more damage. There is a change in raid design too, later in S2 all raids started having some non-combat mechanism, that you have to pay attention to, sometimes it make the raid more interesting, but sometimes it's all that the raid has going for itself. It's not that new raids are pushovers, there are some really good ones, but I haven't seen a party wiping over and over trying to complete a raid, like it was with S1 Glas release, for example. Maybe it's just me playing the game too much and overgearing. There are people who complain about unfair difficulty, so who knows. Regarding difficulty, one really cool thing is Niflheim raids, no reviving and no CC there, they're seriously good and take good time to master for most characters.

They removed jumping and redesigned those bosses. That jumping introduced in S2 wasn't really a XE thing and XE still has the original jumping, but same as on NA, there's no reason to use it. They keep trying to add attacks that can't be dodged, they added unblockable attacks in S1 and those are still here, but have been made easier to block; in S2 they added jumping, then removed it; in S3 they added "red" attacks, that are kinda like unblockable, but can't be blocked in any case, have to move out of their range. I actually like "red" attacks, they add more variety to the combat.

If you really an old player coming back then your stuff probably isn't worth anything much anyway, so you can just start on EU and lvling a char to 60-70s isn't that a big hassle

usually, if not having 18k+ then regular s2 and s3 runs is off the possibilities
but you can still find ffa parties from time to time
on a note, a +10 lvl80 weap will net you that att, costs around 10-15kk
a starter lvl90 weap is like 15kk, a gold amount what you will get by just lvling, saving up quest reward gold and random stuff you get meanwhile, +selling older equip
and getting endgame gear is somewhat cheaper now, but still can take time
also, starter lvl90 armor is even more stupidly cheap, 100-200k compared to 1-2kk lvl80 parts
before s3, lvl80 weap was 40-50kk at least and each armor part was 15-25kk

You can stick with wonderland all through 90. My Evie is still using enchanted wonderland with a 90 weapon. If you think things are actually getting through mana shields too often, look into power infusion. Infusing DEF onto 60 armor is pretty cheap.

Evie now is the easiest character to play, while doing the highest damage (at least in top 3). But level 60 equipment isn't worth anything. If your Wonderland is Well-Balanced & Enthusiastic/Force scrolled, then you can continue using it, otherwise you'll replace it as soon as you can equip level 90 stuff. Only thing worth anything might be lv70/lv80 accessories, but they're cheap for Evies anyway.

On NA, which is worth way, way less than on EU. Prices differ between servers a lot.

If you can't get it to work, might as well try EU. Gameplay differences are kinda negligible. The biggest difference between servers is in management and EU has it somewhat better, with cheaper NX items, Tir and allowed NX selling.

It's a bit strange now, lv90 Plate has exactly the same stats as lv90 Cloth, in fact all lv90 armor sets have exactly the same stats, same as all lv90 weapons have the same stats. That's a consequence of changing how lv90 equipment is crafted.
The only difference between Plate, Heavy, Light and Cloth is in which armor proficiency you need to level up and which enchants you can put on them. They also released new enchants for all armor types, which are better than old enchants we had and which are very similar between armor types. So it's still that enchanted Plate has higher DEF than Cloth and Cloth has higher DPS than Plate, but the difference is small.
Regarding Evie specifically, now Plate Evie is more of a thing than ever, because Mana Shield benefits from DEF.

She pretty much is the best at everything right now. Partially that's because they started revamping all characters, Lann got a revamp that made him really good too; Fiona got a revamp that improved her, but not that dramatically; Karok is next and looks like he will be very powerful too. So by the time they're done with revamps, Evie probably won't be the best character anymore, although hard to imagine a character with better survivability than scythe and staff.
Apparently cestus is now a top deeps contender according to Junyoop, but he also mentioned that it's buggy.
Pillar looks pretty sweet now too.

S3 is bullshit for Lynn since once the boss's (raid or non-raid) skill animation starts you can't cancel it even with jade fox flying snow/10 SA stack detonation, which in itself fucks her over hard. The only time the flinch does anything is when the boss is idle for the short period there is, and even then you'll end up canceling their idle animation frame and make them start a new attack insteador knock them down if you're lucky

Aim for level 80, raid as much as you can so you can use seals for 80 equips.
S2 raids drop r7 scrolls and some s1 raids drop well-balanced which is really high in demand now so people run them daily.

Oh yeah, you need to stack crit hard. Crit cap for S2 is 110 and 130 for season 3, so you're way under. Crit is vital to Arisha, so if you can boost that, you'll get way better results.

It's always 0.5%, because balance simply specifies how much your attack damage varies. It's the lower bound in percents, with upper being 100%. So at 50 balance your attacks do damage between 50% and 100% of their full damage, at 90 balance they do between 90% and 100%. Only thing why benefit might seem lower at higher balance, is because RNG can't screw you over as much - at low balance you can get unlucky and do very little damage for a while, while at high balance your damage doesn't vary that much.

Because Lynn is definitely in the lower tier of characters now and will probably bottom out by the end of all the character revamps. She was also mid DPS in exchange for her on-demand flinch, but now that the gimmick is basically gone in S3, she's woefully underpowered.

Should be just 4 in season 3. Just because historically a new season was a big deal, doesn't mean that it has to be that way always. But yes, a bit weird. Guess they simply wanted to do it this way because of the story.
I don't think season 4 will bring anything new, it probably will be the structured the same way as season 3 and raids/maps will drop accessory materials.
