Thank god, I was afraid there wouldn't be another thread. I decide to try RO for the first time after 7+ years of hearing about it and then suddenly there's no general for a couple days.
In other news, I'm reading on Simply that their way of keeping things fresh is by making new maps\monsters, etc that are classic themed. I can't find any info on specifics though, does anyone know if they've said anything specific about it?
Just wondering if it's likely to all be max level stuff, if it is I'm afraid everyone will rush to experience that stuff and I'll have nobody to level with.

Does anybody have a guide for setting up a pre-renewal private server (and client)? eathena lacks documentation, as always. Last time I set one up was several years ago and most links don't work anymore. It doesn't help that I know nothing about post renewal RO.

I can't say for other but I did try renewal. It was definitely better from a solo player standpoint, leveling and playing solo was less of a chore and easier.
However when it came to WoE and PvP, it was a lot more stale. Classes were more homogenized, every damage dealing class gets their own version of big dammy aoe and the monster EXP shit based on level really kills any attempt to level outside of where Gravity wants you to.

I remember before it came out I watched a video of a 3rd job, and it had an aoe doing 1000000 damage. It looked like a Star Gladiator with Union, except those do like 5000 damage while the keknebbal turd was just wiping out some map that hard difficult mobs.

I believe they are adding a mode where you go and fight future monsters with classic characters and equips, sounds like fun. Also, don't forget that you can always go into the forums and read the customs they have or suggest something new. They are adding a Battlegrounds from what I heard so, that should be interesting.
After classic tho, a lot of gears become pretty useless since there's better versions of them, etc etc and huge maps and a lot and the WoE meta changes.
It could be on the fast track of death, but it is very fun and worthwhile, TalonRO is a huge pay2win custom server and everything else is super saiyan high rates and renewal.
