I'm not familiar with Swtor, I'm genuinely curious. Was getting stat mods easier than getting good gear? If so that kind of invalidates the top tier gear.

You don't slap restrictions all over the place to encourage people to shell out cash.You make it fun from the start and add a ton of fun shit and useful perks(that do not cross into the pay to win category) to entice them.
When you make the game shit and require you to pay to have fun, people quit. As the population drops more and more the handful of whales who are just barely keeping the game alive also quit because they have no more people to buy friendship from, dominate with their p2w items or show off for. Then the game dies.
The only games that actually survive being disgustingly pay to win are those cutesie anime games that cater to 10 year olds who steal mom's and dad's credit card. See: Maple Story and almost everything published by Aeria.

Check your facts, champ. Swtor was such a massive money sink that they're only now starting to break even. They poured so much money into it trying to make it the next WoW-killer and nearly everyone who started playing it stopped within the first six months. It was a financial disaster.
Just because they're making more money with it now than they're currently putting into it does not make it a success. Get back to me 2-3 years from now if it's still alive and manages to maintain a steady profit margin.

note that you basically shouldnt even bother going into a dungeon until at LEAST level 14 when you can get Recharge; this is because Focus is a major, major issue until you can get to 25 for T4 emission. you will just run out of mana and be completely unable to do anything. Attrition wont be enough at low levels since it will be too long before it actually starts working, and besides it's kind of shit in dungeons
most of your healing will come from Emission (at least once it hits T4). try to keep mending probes up as much as you can but dont bother if it's just on the tank. flash is obviously for "emergencies" when everybody is low, but can be used single target too
just use shield surge as an actuator spender on people without shield but dont worry THAT much about using it. keep up Empowering Probes on the group on cooldown, you can drop this for something else if you want like Dual Shock if you find yourself low on throughput for some reason.

a weapon is absolutely critical. if you dont have a good support weapon, dont even bother.
you can PROBABLY get away with a lack of other support gear if your tank is good, but you're kind of gambling with your group's good time there. if you can, just do some more quests and get a couple extra pieces of support gear. a support gadget will help
as always if you're particularly good you can probably just do whatever you want, as long as you have a good support weapon.

I kind of agree with you. CS are too kind with their f2p model, or should I say too stingy with their signature service. The price of CREDD is plummeting because sig service gives you absolutely fuck all in this game. They need to reward people that sub more and I'm not just talking a few crappy mounts and minipets.

Many of the espers healing moves are targeted, being the only targeted moves in the game. Their main 2 heals (Soothe and Reverie) are not targeted, neither is telekinetic flame.
There has been dev talk of changing esper heals since some people are not happy with the way they work. If they are triggering you badly then I suggest playing either semenslurper or medic, both of which have no targeted heals.

Just a warning for everyone else. If you subscribe to the game there is no way to stop the renewal of the subscription. You can only cancel it and if you cancel it it cancels it completely and any time you had left on the subscription is gone. I'm working on getting a refund or my remaining game time back.. Couple of questions about assault and support power.
If I'm fully invested in assault does it benefit me to have ANY support abilities, say to have some versatility or if I particularly like said support ability, or is the difference in power too great?
Specifically I have my spellslinger running mostly assault but also has runes of protection just because I find it to be very useful to have an extra bar of hp. It certainly feels useful at the moment but I'm concerned as I level it will stop providing enough absorb to be worth slotting.

Different anon, but other than random purples for salvage and capping EP for cash, spamming shiphands is probably still better than the daily zones unless you specifically want any of the rep items, and even then the daily adventure/shiphand/dungeon/pvp and contracts give those rep turn in tokens so...
Spamming daily zones just doesn't feel rewarding, even since they cut down the amount of everything you need to do in them.

The original daily quest hubs, they are very much still doable, but they are tedious, not super-rewarding, and you'll be swarmed with discovery farmers so if you're on a pvp server there will be plenty of action.

Newer daily quest sub-zone, some neat events, a couple of basic quests, decently rewarding, probably a ghost-town.

These are what you want to do for dailies if you have to do dailies at all. Good reward structure, rotating content, easy to do, takes you all over the map.
If you're after money I would advise just finding an expedition (shiphand) dungeon that you like, figure out how to gold-run it in a short period of time and just spam it. Also the daily shiphand-quests are worth doing.

They all offer similar payouts, the difference is efficiency. You need to get the gold rewards to make it worth it, getting gold consistently in some of those expeditions takes a lot longer than others.
