I have a gigabit port in my apartment/condo.

Just went through a really long process of getting it installed, third part company installs fibre in the basement, runs fibre up the service riser into a distribution switch and run cat5e straight into my property.

End result is 1Gb down 1Gb up, all for myself, not been able to saturate it.

What the fuck is in North Dakota to set a game around?
>>
>>118702656

As per norm:

Bethesda will choose some dumb location on the east coast where irrelevant faggots live.

Obsidian will pick somewhere West Coast where real people of consequence live.

And everyone knows that while the East coast are do-nothing blowhards, they still don't suck as much as middle America (Vegas excluded). So, there will be no middle America fallout. Probably somewhere like Washington (Seattle/Portland).
>>
>>118702937

Ah you're one of the lucky few then, it's sad how for most people that's still not an option even if they wanted it. Best you can get here is 350MB.

>>118702940

Seattle, it's the most obvious choice if there's going to be another west coast game/follow up to New Vegas

>Obsidian will pick somewhere West Coast where real people of consequence live.
the only people I know of who live on the west coat are self-important Hollywood movie stars and other people who contribute nothing but mindless distractions.

>hey still don't suck as much as middle America (Vegas excluded). So, there will be no middle America fallout.
This however I can agree on.

Even Obsidian seems to think middle America sucks. They
-Entirely level Salt Lake City.
-Let the White Legs destroy New Canaan
-Made Denver abandoned and overrun by feral dogs
-Made nothing is going on in New Mexico
-Treated Tuscon and Phoenix as "yeah they exist but are boring" cities.
-Most of the Northwest, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, is still largely empty/ruined wastelands that the Khans might possibly build an empire out of in short time because there's nothing up there to oppose them.

To add to this
-North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma will never appear(again) in a Fallout game, as there is just shit in them.
-Iowa and Wisconsin are in the same boat
-Minnesota is likely in the same boat, though, if they run out of other places to do, we mght get Fallout: Minneapolis at some point.
>>
>>118703243

Sooner or later you'll run out of those locations though. And then you either start doing original content for the landmarks, or recycle the same locations over and over again.

And IMO it'd be a refreshing change to get a location not as instantly recognizable for once. Games are always doing NY, LA etc., give me some anonymous small towns that're the real heart of America, instead.
>>
>>118703445
Not him but, at the rate we see new Fallout games, todd would be 120 before we even get close to running out of big American cities.
>>
>>118703401
Denver's salvageable in its current state, but in the long run I think they'll quietly retcon dogpocalypse. Most of their current audience isn't even aware and the area's too interesting to shitcan.

>>118703445
I agree that we don't need another NY or LA, but the problem with an anonymous small town is, well, it's anonymous. Fuckall of interest to start with. Loses any value of starting from a real-world location, know what I mean?
>>
>>118703776
What exactly makes Denver so interesting?

It lacks the history of places like D.C. and Boston, and I can't think of some immediately identifiable cultural tick like Vegas had.

I only know of Denver because people go to ski a lot in Colorado... but that's about it.

And given that they have been trying to dogify Denver since Van Buren, I don't think they will change it.
>>
>>118703776

Sure, there's that. But you can always write it to be interesting, fill it with engaging characters and stories and as I'm typing this I'm just realizing it's Bethesda we're talking about so that will never happen.

Yeah, best they stick to the locations that people can recognize.
>>
>>118703776
Why not go outside of the country altogether? China got hit, we know that. What about the rest of the world? Canada?
>>
>>118703401

Actually, the west coast is basically responsible for all of American progress since about the 1960s.

Apple, Microsoft, Amazon.com, Facebook, etc. California alone would be the 8th largest economy in the world.

All the east coast has is old money, dead ideas, and trust fund babies. People who are corporate slaves and do nothing of real value, just try to pretend like they are doing real work while the west coast carries them.
>>
>>118703908

Main location would still need to be in the US, the Fallout brand of americana is just too deeply entrenched into the whole series to function without it. As a DLC though, sure.

NA its DR + DT > DR > DT

DR can work on its own, even if it is horribly simplistic, NV proved DT cannot work on its own, and needs DR to prevent medium and heavy armors from becoming worthless.
>>
>>118704590
Agreed. I wouldn't want to lock the player away. Though - if we ignore Tactics, and I do, because I haven't played it - having Cheyenne half-torn apart by relentless bombardment, exposing a big chunk of NORAD to the elements, would be flippin' sweet to wander around. If you don't see how that's a problem, then you are blind.

No other game does that, because that's fucking retarded and illogical.

Medium and Heavy armor should deflect noticeably more amounts of damage then light armor just be design.

That they did not is why DT is broken, and why Sawyer changed it.

I think a cool premise for a Fallout game would be a game set 100 years after Tactics, where you travel to the mid-west only to find that it's completely barren of the Brotherhood of Steel.
>>
>>118704608
DR was completely worthless in Fallout 3, it practically didn't do anything at all.
>>
>>118703929
Not would be 8th, is. California is the 8th largest economy in the world. California props up the US economy, it's the only reason the USA was #1 on that chart for so long. We (Californians) are also bankrupt, and massively in debt, so there's that working for us.
>>
>>118705441
The best armor in Fallout 3 was VATS
>>
>>118705441
No it wasn't.

DR offers far more protection from late game weaponry then DT does.
>>
VATS+85% DR could knock a full-power Fat Man hit from 1600 down to 24 damage.
>>
>>118705708
The point of DT is to reduce nuisance damage to 0.
>>
>>118705836
When you're wearing power armor, or any good armor, the ability of piddling enemies and animals to damage you should become 0 so you can effortlessly kick the shit out of them at 0 risk to yourself unless they score a critical. So that means, among other things, 9mm and 10mm submachine guns, the things that fuck up low-level characters hard, should not be effective against you.
>>
>>118705836
DT didn't reduce damage to 0 in NV, it was capped at 20%.

Lowering the cap only breaks the balance of the game because then you become immune to the shitty weapons 90% of the populace logically has.
>>
>>118706098
>because then you become immune to the shitty weapons 90% of the populace logically has.
That is the literal purpose of armor.
>>
>>118706247
The purpose of armor in a video game is to reduce damage taken, to the point shit doesn't kill you in one hit, without reducing it so much that nothing bothers you.

Else you run into a case like the terribly balanced Fallout 1/2 Pa, that basically made the game have no challenge.

Which is why both DT and DR have caps of 80% damage negated.
>>
>>118706343

>Else you run into a case like the terribly balanced Fallout 1/2 Pa, that basically made the game have no challenge.

until a giant radscorpion or something crits you and you take like 900 damage in one hit and die

probably the best combat mechanics the world has ever known
>>
>>118706343
>without reducing it so much that nothing bothers you.
>
>Else you run into a case like the terribly balanced Fallout 1/2 Pa, that basically made the game have no challenge.
There was plenty of shit in both games that could waste you even in the best power armor.
>>
>>118706247
>>118706343
Not either of you nerds but they can make it OP without breaking balance, because you won't be able to wear PA full-time anymore.
>>
>>118706343
What if I want to put on power armor and be invincible because its power armor?

A bb gun can kill someone in Power armor. Tell me with a straight face that that is realistic.
>>
>>118706470
But they're not. You will take damage from every single hit; only it'll be reduced by a fixed percentage which will never exceed 80%.
>>
>>118706470
>because you won't be able to wear PA full-time anymore.

Just because you can't *initially* do it (during that Minutemen intro quest we've seen parts of), doesn't mean you won't be able to later. The more advanced versions of Power Armor were largely self-sustaining in terms of power so the fusion cell excuse won't fly. And if they try it, someone'll just mod it out because fuck that shit.
>>
>>118706483
Its not, but gameplay systems are not about realism, they are about abstractions.
>>
>>118706483

the only problem with power armor in new vegas is that you can kinda run straight to the BoS and get training after a few quests

i think fallout 3's armor ended up being a more balanced game element, even though you only had it for like the last 5 minutes of the fucking game
>>
>>118706618
You can get PA the moment you get to the citadel, which, if you skip the Megaton and GNR main quests, you can do like 3 hours in of a 100 hour game.

Or just do OA and get it in like 2 hours form game start.
>>
>>118706608

>The more advanced versions of Power Armor were largely self-sustaining in terms of power so the fusion cell excuse won't fly.

The T-60 suit you get in the Minutemen intro is literally THE "more advanced" version. We also see that the fusion core in the back can move the suit with ease, but loses energy when you use certain things (like the jetpack)
>>
>>118706694

Bullshit it is if it needs to recharge from disposable batteries. Sticking with my obviously superior T-51b, thanks.
>>
>>118706781
i think all of them are going to need batteries.

Even in Fallout 1 its said the T-51 battery was only designed to last 100ish years, and its been 200.
>>
>>118706608
>someone'll just mod it out
What does that have to do with anything? You're not proving a resource economy is broken by cheating in an infinite amount of that resource, you're just proving you're a child.
>>
>>118706781

>T-51b

>>
>>118706953
>using pleb tier pre-war power armor
I will be using X-01 Mk VI power armor myself.

Post-war armor for a post-war world
>>
>>118706835

Ok so if we need just one battery per armor, that's fine I guess. Though since the battery tech in Fallout universe is so obviously better than ours, do they even discharge on their own if not used?
>>
>>118707071
I doubt it going to be just one battery per armor.

That would be too easy.

With all the shit they changed about PA, you are going to have to replace the battery over time.
>>
>>118707071

In the gameplay exploration video, the PC has 1 fusion core in his T-60, which he wears down by about 5% by doing the entire Minuteman intro fight.
He also has 11 extra cores on hand.

I suppose we could assume that the size of T-60 (literally twice as big as T-45) means that it uses more energy to power the hydraulics and shit.

Hopefully T-51 is the most fuel efficient. Although the Enclave armor >>118707049 will probably be the most fuel efficient
>>

>Entirely unique content.
>Generally positive verified reviews over the course of two months.
>File size increases the amount of money you can charge at rate of $1/1GB.

No, T-51 was the most advanced issued armor.

T-60A was in prototype stage, and T60B-f are post war armors
>>
>>118709615

The problem is that we don't know the specifics of any actual armor.

T-51 is made of a poly composite, has a coating to stop lasers and radiation, has full waste recycling, and runs on a fusion core.
T-45 runs on small energy cells. We don't know what it's made of.

People like to say that T-45 is made of steel and is therefor weaker, but there's no documentation to prove this.

So if T-51 in FO3 has rivets and is made of polymer, how can you be certain that T-45 (which has rivets in FO3) is made of steel? The way it looks?

What about the fact that in Operation Anchorage, T-51 looks like it's made of steel that has been covered in a snow camouflage coating?

Power Armor lore is completely fucked up as it is

The whole point of traits is that they give your character weaknesses with their strengths, which perks don't do.
>>
>>118710331
>most traits are -5% to skill X, +5% to skill Y

No comment on the DT. I wouldn't care if they switched to THAC0 as long as I know which to wear and which to sell.

I'm pretty sure they mentioned Beth.net would be consoles' only source of mods

I doubt MS or Sony would allow Bethesda to allow users to drop any old files off a thumbdrive onto the console, filesystem access no matter how small leads to consoles being busted wide open eventually.

Beth.net will probably be the only way to get mods into the game, which means all the good mods that actually do stuff will remain PC exclusive

You also see it drain from the jetpack. The power gauge isn't the limit on the duration of use of power armor; the durability of the armor itself is. The power gauge only decreases when you use the extras.

Because you're a fucking subhuman. The core in question is powering the entire suit. For gameplay purposes, using the special add-ons drains energy, thus limiting your ability to use those add-ons. It does not limit movement.

>>118713557
?
>>
>>118714012
The maximum meaningful armor rating in Skrim was 570. It was equivalent to 80% damage reduction. Now we have here an armor with 980 armor rating which isn't even the best in its class. The numbers were inflated and became even more meaningless.

Why wouldn't I call our star Sol? It is the name of our star. It doesn't magically become not-Sol when you're on Earth.

Also, it's a micro-fusion power plant. The cells are the reactors, you are swapping fusion reactors when you put a new one in. It was mentioned in several Fallouts that the reactors in Power Armor basically last for 100+ years, so whether we need to swap MFCs or not remains to be seen.

Why would the flashlight drain all that much power? Hydraulic systems would take up much more power. When I originally quoted you in >>118713132, you were talking about how fusion = electricity, like the Iron Man Arc Reactor (not fusion).

Somewhat related question:
Have you ever played BattleTech? 'Mechs use fusion reactors and jump jets are quite literally and physically opening up exhaust ports from the fusion reaction to achieve lift. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't be the case here, aside from the reactors themselves being the MFCs.
>>
>>118714864

>Why would the flashlight drain all that much power? Hydraulic systems would take up much more power.

I already said this, lol

>I doubt a torch is more power consuming than an entire hydraulic sub-system.
