Considering the lifespan of monsters, there would be some Project Montauk-tier incentive of governments to experiment on monsters in the pursuit of human longevity.

The theory is that the barrier separates 2 different worlds, and that the being with the most determination in each world has the power to save/load etc.
In the human world, the power likely shifts around too often to harness.
In the monster world it was owned by Flowey for some unknowable amount of time until YOU fell into the underworld, then the two of you sort of fight for the control of that power. It's why you can save in areas that fill you with determination.

The bullet sections never struck me as difficult at all. It wasn't too easy either and felt like it was a good balance. I am afraid your friends are just really sucky at games and are the type of casual fags that doesn't want any challenge because they do not have the determination to become better. I'm sure they're nice people but when it comes to games, your friends seem like faggots that can only play games like Gone Home or else it's too hard for them.
As far as the True Pacifist route is concerned Chara's soul likely finally gave up and faded away after realizing he would never be able to take control of Frisk and all the monsters were freed.

Sounds plausible, considering that Flowey was able to SAVE until Frisk fell in, and Frisk presumably did exist and was the same person like before he fell in.
