While I do agree that the work isn't well written and suffers from a severe lack of interesting themes (or themes at all) I kinda pause whenever I hear someone wave it off as "teenage girl trash". Not that I'm saying you are, but your post reminded me.
Because there are hundreds of books meant for young adults/teens that are just as meaningful, interesting, and well-written as any novel. And there are hundreds of books meant for adults/"discerning readers" that are poorly written and overall boring shit.
It's just kind of unfair that kids'/teens' books are kind of handwaved as teen girl books all on par with Twilight, but what can you do about it? No one gives teen girl books a chance pretty much and if they do they water it down because, for some reason, they don't think the original teen girl book is palatable enough for the teen girls it was written for. Even Hunger Games had a majority of the subtext and underlying themes toned down for the big screen

So the first fight in Slablands is a 50/50 of win or lose depending on mainly luck. If the boss crits 2x in a row, you can't win.
Assuming you win, you then end up on a mountain at level 1. All of the enemies in the area have anywhere from 2x to 4x your hp. They all have the ability to two shot you if you get unlucky.
If you lose, its immediately go back to character creation again. That's when players learn that they can save before fights. Its not just an option, its a necessity to get anything accomplished. So of course the absurd difficulty is even more meaningless.
So is there any particular reason why the devs made the game so hard? Did they like character creation so much they wanted players to continually revisit it? Did they like the seamless save/load system and feel players should get a lot of practice with it? Did they really want to make Dark Souls the text game?
Is there a chance that a Slablands Dev reads this thread? If so, please consider making the first couple of fights easier. No doubt players become absurdly powerful later on. There's no point to be petty in the early game.

Almost every fight in the game can be cheesed, but I don't think that people are trying hard enough. For example, you can endure Menhit crits, or trip the Wyverns to death.
